One hour Chassis?

Did anyone actualy get their chassis up and running in 1 hour.... i dont mean like just a test bot to run around on the field but the actual chassis for your final robot...

It might not have been up in an hour, but it was a heck of a lot easier for rookies/vets to assemble a drivable frame this year than in previous ones. Kudos to FIRST.

We're still designing ours :D

Adam Y. 24-01-2003 16:24

It was really close to an hour and really fast this year especially since we had the right materials to use.

Cory 24-01-2003 16:28

We are using 80/20 and we have bolted together our drive frame, havent done much else though... By Sunday, we hope for a rolling base.

You mean the cookie-cutter chassis??? Ummm...Yeah we're using that.... Sure we are!!! :D Yeah an hour.... Yeah that was all it took....:p

Jeff_Rice 24-01-2003 18:19

It depends on what you count as structure and what you count as add-on. Our team was fairly quick about making the basic structure, but we're still adding stuff to it. Where did you get the idea about one hour Angry Dwarf? Did your team get it made in an hour? Or were you just speculating

Solace 24-01-2003 18:49

actually, our drive train this year is most complicated one we've ever built (well, maybe not, but its right up there).

Josh Fritsch 24-01-2003 18:52

well, we dont really know how long our chassis will take to build, especially since we dont have ANY of our materials in yet..:( but we do have it all designed out in CAD so as soon as we do get them in, hopefuly within the next day or two, we will most likely have it done within another couple days if not an hour..

Rickertsen2 24-01-2003 18:54

We have out frame bolted together and will probably get it welded tomorrow. We have not even started on the Drive Train.

Wetzel 24-01-2003 19:07

I think the question was about the basic chassis that FIRST built durring kickoff from parts in the kit. They also said they had done about 3 hours of prepatory work.

My team did nothing of the sort. :)

it took us about 3-4 hours. We made ours out of wood instead of using the metal they gave us. That was with about 3 people working on it though...

Josh Hambright 25-01-2003 12:11

our team finaly got most everything done in CAD this week...still working out the details and fitting in all the FUFU stuff...

I think the parts they gave us in the kit are great for rookies but it seems that most of the older teams are still doing their own thing.

Harrison 25-01-2003 12:11

I think if our team sat down and built the frame all in one go, it would probably be close to an hour.

But, we're doing it in bits and pieces (not even all of it is designed).

We build the frame to support the components of the bot...Not all the components are done yet, so neither is the frame.

BBFIRSTCHICK 25-01-2003 21:34

It might be possible to assemble a frame in 1 hour if you used the chassis material that FIRST provided. A team we are working with used the stuff that FIRST gave in the KITS, and it took them a lot longer. It took my team a good 2 weeks....We built 1...decided to change it and then built another. Which we finished this week.
