inventor to max

hey i have a problem i read the thread that shows you how to import inventor files to max but it doesnt work is there any other ways to?

You can save your Inventor files as .IGES.... but it's really a horrible way to do it, since Max recognizes it as one whole part... Sorry I'm not much help, try contacting Autodesk.

There is actually a 3ds max plugin for importing inventor files (either parts or assemblies), but for some reason it only works for 3ds max4 and inventor 5 (at least on my computer). Try searching for an updated plugin. If you cant find anything, i would recommend exporting the part files in an .STL file, which is in my experience the best format for Inventor-to-3dsmax transfer. Just play with the settings in the max import dialog to get the best results.

the .stl files are for parts only.

go to the inventor menu, and go to export file, and select .3ds as the file type(i don't know if all this is in there.. i haven't used the program that much..) and then when you go to 3dsmax import the 3ds file, try that and tell me if that helps.. if you don't want to do the download thing that is...

As far as i know there is no "export to .3ds" option in Inventor.

But i did find a working plugin for Inventor 6 and 3dsmax5 (and 3dsmax3 and 4 as well) - you can download it here: http://adeskftp.autodesk.com/prodsup...Max_Plugin.zip (and the installation instructions are found here: http://www.mekvizion.com/Support/Max...gin_Readme.txt )

Hope this helps

Ummmmm, there is no export to .3ds, however, use the method that I suggested on the boards.
