Oh man, those guys were so awesome, and so nice. They gave this ziploc bag full of little flowers. lol. We were 38th and they picked us, 1st and 3rd, picking us. I was one of the controllers for the last match and I cannot tell you how nervous I was. In that match we won, but unfortunately we had lost the match before. But that's just awesome. The Megaforce Squadron beat the Cheesy Poofs. I very much didn't expect us to get that far. We were broken all day Friday. All day long our arm wasn't working and in the last matches of the day our left side was cutting out. But we got that fixed by our first match Saturday. Jeez, I was happy just having the Judge's Choice Award. :D I don't know what else to day, SVR was the greatest. Hey Aonic, I saw you there...You were checking out our bot so you coul plot against us, er, I mean strategise in the finals. =P |

i am sorry if your team name is spelled wrong i got them off the FIRST site
Friday awards were posted by Wetzel |
Spelling a name wrong here is not that bad. FIRST spelled Gunn's name wrong at SVR. We all felt embarassed for them after we stopped laughing.

Just updated the site with all the pictures... i took 450+ pictures at SVR :D

Thanks Team 814 for the nice comments. We pride ourselves for the way we show our "Aloha" spirit. In general, this is the way we treat each other in the states. Someday, we would love to have a regional here.
As for the SVR competition, I wasn't able to attend. I only found out of the results from this forum and the FIRST site. I am very anxious for the team to come back and fill me in on the details. They are traveling to Seattle for the Pacific Northwest Regional. Congratulations to Teams 115, 254 and 852 for winning the regional. Monta Vista is always very consistent in their showings at the regionals year after year. I always like to see their robot because it is always interesting to learn about their approach to solving each year's Challenge. Cheesy Poofs first mentored our team four years ago. We still feel appreciative to them for coming to Hawaii and telling us about FIRST and their program. P.S. Dima: No apology needed for the wrong team name. |

The poofs went to hawaii and mentored another team? Sign ME up! |
I think this year's SVR was the best FIRST event I have vere attended, and that includes the 2000 Nationals. I am extremely proud of the team 1043 rookies I mentored, grateful to team 115 who were such generous mentors, Heck they built a field of play for us!
I also have tremendous admiration for the engineering wizardy of GRT - there machine was a work of art, and am in awe of the Poofs - despite the fact everything possible went wrong for them during the qualifyiers from broken cahines to bad servos to the wrong codes, and disabled allies, they persisted and finished strong. We had at least 4 rookies at SVR and they all did very well. There are many teams I don't have time to thank, but from #1 to #46 - Thank you all for your hard work, and thanks to the volunteers, mentors, sponsors and the FIRST organziation for making it all possibe. --- |
mentoring
Four years ago, a few members of the Cheesy Poofs flew to Hawaii and Alaska to start the first FIRST teams in those states. There are now 6 Hawaiian teams and 6 Alaskan Teams. This year we mentored 1045 (MSJRT) and 1120 (Milpitas). Both did really well, and their autonomous programs were awesome, but were not selected for the playoffs.
Also, we were proud to see 359 (one of the Hawaiian teams) take home the Chairman's Award and 374 (one of the Alaskan teams) win the Engineering Inspiration Award. |

Good luck to you and your team in Seattle! I'm sure they'll do awesome. |
Who knows, seeing that us Hawaii teams were able to place all in the top 10 in San Jose, maybe it won't be to long before we get our own little Regionals. :)
Also congrats to 254, 115, 852 for doing such a great job. Oh and a special thanks to 254 for helping us get the our highest score of 252 in our last match so we could take 9th in the competition. Sorry one more... Thank you very much 258 and 840 for being such great teams. |
