I am confused...

i need to export a drawing from inventor into a DWG format but when i did and when it was sent to a metal shop they said they want a format where they can rotate and dimension it themselves. inventor exports FUNKY.

I'd advise using IGES format. I successfully exported from Inventor to this format, and seamlessly imported it into Solidworks, and it retained all dimensions accurately, which Solidworks easily picked up on.

To export as IGES, in Inventor, goto File, Save Copy As, and change Save as Type to IGES.

I'm under the impression this is a standard all 3d capable programs can read in 3d. A dwg drawing is essentially a 2d dimension sheet.

Hope this helps.
