US Army Sponsoring Team

Hey all,

Just got into this thread late... sorry. Thought I'd let one of the earlier posters know that yes, indeed, the US ARMY does sponsor at least one of the teams.... Team 614 is sponsored, in part, by the US ARMY Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (us).

Wishing everyone the best of luck at this year's competitions!

*points to my above post*

The navy sponsers teams too! I can think of 2 others...

AntiCrombieDuck 24-01-2002 21:31

Robotic future

I can see it now... the US army with its battalion of robots... you know, if we do use robots for war in the future, that would decrease the number of conscripts and increase the number of innocent civilian casualties.

It's an interesting thought, but I suspect the war of the future to revolve around cheaper ways to kill people

eg Smallpox.

AntiCrombieDuck 25-01-2002 19:38

Osama

the military should sponsor FIRST, like a military version of FIRST, we could buld stuff that flies or amphibious things, in whatever task they made. iT COUld be fun and beneficial for the military. lol, just we cant sell out to osama or anything.

SharkBite 04-02-2002 12:52

im not sure why they would be selling our robots to the military since our team is actually sponsored by the navy and thier engineers ..........

unless the engineers somehow forget everything they showed us and then want to buy the design back.........

SharkBite 04-02-2002 12:54

oh one more thing about military sponsors....... they dont give you any money

we have the engineers and a place to work (an old submarine material warehouse) but we fundraise our entire budget

we havent had a flying or amphibious robot yet either..... but you could drive any one of our robots into a wall at full speed and it would be fine

i got in trouble today for sending an email that said "Confidential" on the subject line to one of our engineers at Rolls-Royce. that usually sends up a fed flag at government places like that.

Stev3298 04-02-2002 18:04

FotoPlasma 05-02-2002 14:17

Smallpox is cheap?

You can just go outside and pick up a rock for free...
