am I completely wrong or do I remember Air Force Academy having a team too??

Summmergrl2298 12-01-2002 21:48

never heard that they did, but its sweet if they do :)

Patrick Wang 12-01-2002 22:23

Air Force?

Will the Air Force Robot Fly?

smokescreen 12-01-2002 22:43

it doesn't fly

It doesn't fly, but it does make loud turbine sounds and it requires a steam catapult to get going.

-smokescreen (trying to differentiate the steam from the smoke)

OtakuRob 13-01-2002 03:59

Air Force Academy has a Battle Bot.. Not as FIRST Bot as far as I know.. as for the possibilities, not all robots have to be designed to kill.. We could be excavation bots, or exploration bots, or other -ation bots.. I run out of words when I run on this little sleep.. oh well.. Yeah.. it'd be cool..

But the "Army of One" has to go..

JVN 13-01-2002 10:45

we joke around with my friend who is at the academy, "How's it feel to provide air support for the army of one cadet??"

Ghetto_Child 13-01-2002 16:52

Is anyone here part of team USA?

I was on Team USA along with a couple other technokat team members. I didnt do a whole heck of a lot for the FIRST competition but i did do a lot of work for the Chief Delphi Invitational (CDI).

Here is the Team Member List:

So are you saying the Coast Guard isn't good enough? Ya know some of the stuff they do is nuts compared to other branches of the military ona daily basis. The cadets at the academy get props from me, I spent a week there one summer and couldn't/didn't want to hack it.

Todd Derbyshire 14-01-2002 15:24

What is team USA and how do you get on it

tareyton 16-01-2002 13:51

The Coast Guard Sponsors Two teams one sponsored by the Academy and one by USCG Project Resident Office Marinette. and I believe the Naval Academy also has a team

You would be surprised at some of the stuff the CG does their Port Security Units (PSU's), Tactical Law Enforcement Teams (TACLETS), and Law Enforcement Detachments (LEDETS) are just as cool as any Army Unit!

AntiCrombieDuck 17-01-2002 07:28

Taclets

ok if there called "TACLETS" why would you do anything else, thats an awsome name. I wanna be a TACLET!!

CyberDefender 19-01-2002 16:22

3, 4, or even 5 magic speeds!

Sorry! Accidentally posted it twice (go figure). Also, like I said, contact me either here, or at CyberDefender@hotmail.com :p
P.S. To all our military fans, my brother is at Ft. Hood, in the Army (of course). My grandfather fought in D-Day, in a half-track with dual howitzer machine guns ( I think that's correct, just what I have been told). Anyone in here have military family history? You can see my first post below! Sorry!

CyberDefender 19-01-2002 16:25

Hey! Hey!

:D BOOYAH! FIRST POST EVER! :D
Also, my brain told me that it would be much cooler if this game was played with autonomous robots, with real-time multi-agent collaboration! *Look it up, it's real.*
http://www.robocup.org <----This is the good stuff.
Also, does anyone in here know PBASIC, and know it WELL?

Thanks,
-Jonathan:cool:

How would you guys like me to tell you how to build your robot with 3, 4, even 5 SPEED Transmission? Let me know, and I'll consider it.

Oh, and "We're sending the robot out for KFC! Anyone coming?"
-Me, at a design meeting.

US Army Sponsoring Team

Hey all,

Just got into this thread late... sorry. Thought I'd let one of the earlier posters know that yes, indeed, the US ARMY does sponsor at least one of the teams.... Team 614 is sponsored, in part, by the US ARMY Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (us).

Wishing everyone the best of luck at this year's competitions!

EddieMcD 24-01-2002 19:19

*points to my above post*

The navy sponsers teams too! I can think of 2 others...

AntiCrombieDuck 24-01-2002 21:31

9, and she dosent know words like that?`

Summmergrl2298 24-01-2002 22:35

What are the team names eddie?

Randy_Ai 25-01-2002 18:10

Robotic future

I can see it now... the US army with its battalion of robots... you know, if we do use robots for war in the future, that would decrease the number of conscripts and increase the number of innocent civilian casualties.

It's an interesting thought, but I suspect the war of the future to revolve around cheaper ways to kill people

eg Smallpox.

AntiCrombieDuck 25-01-2002 19:38

Osama

the military should sponsor FIRST, like a military version of FIRST, we could buld stuff that flies or amphibious things, in whatever task they made. iT COUld be fun and beneficial for the military. lol, just we cant sell out to osama or anything.

SharkBite 04-02-2002 12:52

im not sure why they would be selling our robots to the military since our team is actually sponsored by the navy and thier engineers ..........

unless the engineers somehow forget everything they showed us and then want to buy the design back.........

SharkBite 04-02-2002 12:54

oh one more thing about military sponsors....... they dont give you any money

we have the engineers and a place to work (an old submarine material warehouse) but we fundraise our entire budget

we havent had a flying or amphibious robot yet either..... but you could drive any one of our robots into a wall at full speed and it would be fine

David Kelly 04-02-2002 14:53

i got in trouble today for sending an email that said "Confidential" on the subject line to one of our engineers at Rolls-Royce. that usually sends up a fed flag at government places like that.

Faster, better, cheaper?

AntiCrombieDuck 04-02-2002 16:22

cheaper, thats a joke

Stev3298 04-02-2002 18:04

i dought it would be cheaper

FotoPlasma 05-02-2002 14:17

Smallpox is cheap?

You can just go outside and pick up a rock for free...
That's pretty cheap, right?

AntiCrombieDuck 08-02-2002 23:16

ugh not my point, and steve what did i say too you!
