lets get those pictures flowing

I call for Saturday to be the unofficial unveiling day on ChiefDelphi for teams to show their bots. No more teasers.......trick pictures or 2002 robots. lets see what everyone has out there....proprietary technology aside.(some of you might need to protect sensitive designs)

We've already posted a pic our robot at about 80%, and unselfishly revealed our plans. On Saturday I'll be posting pictures of the completed robot, minus customs.(like paint, graphics and finishers like the light)

The funnest part of the season is seeing what everybody has come up with! So consider this the official personal invite for veterans and rookies alike.

This saturday!? The saturday before the ship date would be appropriate. We would have nothing to show until then, anyway, considering the fact that we haven't begun the build cycle as yet.

Elgin Clock 29-01-2003 12:26

Unveil our robot already??? The heck with that!!! You will see what it looks like and what it can do soon enough!

Gadget470 29-01-2003 12:51

having an "official day" may likely cause performance issues with the site. It's more fun to guess what pieces are. Many teams don't have their bot's done yet and some havn't even started putting pieces together.

ajlapp 29-01-2003 14:37

:(

its okay, i didn't expect anyone to start posting this early. we always post as soon as possible because we love to get the process rolling. either way, you can see our finished product this saturday!!

Don't at all suggest it is selfish of teams to not post pictures of their robot. Teams hold the right to keep their design and work a secret. Don't expect any team to show you their robot unless it's at a regional, because till then, no one really cares if you want to know what they're doing. Part of the fun of FIRST is working together as a team to create new and innovative ideas for performing a task, which is why people aren't sharing. I'm getting tired of these calls for pictures. If you want to see something magnificent, look here and gaze in awe:

Which robot do you want pictures of??? :yikes:

Drew Hopman 29-01-2003 16:57

We got a box of parts i could send you a picture of that.

I'll take a picture of the stuff we're probably using to build it. Haha. I might even be able to have a picture of the base in 2 weeks. Who knows.

... As soon as we have a robot to post pictures of, I promise I'll post all the pictures you want! :D

Timinator 29-01-2003 18:41

I'd put a picture of ours up if I could find all the peices....

Ashley Weed 29-01-2003 20:02

Yeah.... possibly one of the motors lying around our shop may be used on the robot eventually.... at the moment... umm, designs are still not final, let alone prototypes :(

Elyse Holguin 29-01-2003 20:03

hahahaa, good one...

:ahh:gasp! not building yet!?! oh my, RAGE has really lost its edge now it seems!

for us, 15 minutes before the UPS truck arrives would be more appropriate.

Clark Gilbert 29-01-2003 20:44

Friday

I'm uploading 1 picture friday night. I'll tell you that it wont show all (not even most of our robot) and it will not show our progress to that date. But it will be good, heck you probably wont even be that surprised.

"It's all been done....woohooo....It's all been done...woohoo....It's all been dooonnnnnneee before!"

;)

evulish 29-01-2003 20:53

I'll take a picture of the peices we put in our crate when we ship :P

Joe Matt 29-01-2003 21:02

Sparky 4.0 will be up soon enough.... :)

Cory 29-01-2003 21:12

Our drive base is completed, although we still need to manufacture our servo shifter for the drill motors. The base was driveable yesterday, although the program had not been uploaded yet. Pics will be available as soon as I can take them/get approval from advisors.

Err-- assembling yet. We haven't begun to put anything together. We are still drawing and making parts. Don't worry... :)

Clark Gilbert 31-01-2003 19:55

You see it "FIRST"...

There you go....you wanted a preview and ya got it. :D

Too bad i won't be answering any questions about it or other things, just a picture for now. More to come later.

:]

btw, this may or may not show our current build status as of Friday, January 31

Well, if you don't want to hear calls for 'bot pics, you probably shouldn't be frequenting the Robot Showcase. ;)

Others have expressed concern at teams "stealing their ideas" or creating a robot specifically to counter their particularly advantageous feature.

Neither falls into the realm of gracious professionalism. I'd love to see other teams inspired by designs we made. We've certainly been inspired by designs from the past.

Throughout the design process we tossed out ideas we saw in the past. Like a ChiefDelphi-style front-wheel drive swerve with HOT-style omni wheels instead of swivel casters and Truck Town-style conveyor belt for traction (which was originally given to us by a team in Oklahoma whose team number I can no longer remember). These ideas are then fused with 'trademark' MI Roboworks design patterns like water-jet fabricated 1/4" aluminum plate with connecting stanchions, as well expanding to meet our facilities and skills such as the increase in GTAW on the frame. There is no ‘copying’, just ‘inspiration’.

Another part of the fun of FIRST is seeing all the great machines people come up with. We're not attending EVERY regional, so the CD Forums are probably the only place someone who isn't going to GLR or the Championship Event will see our design. On that same note, we want to see others' robots as well. It's not like we're twisting anyone's arm. Or aren't offering our own pictures.

We are proud of our machine and enjoy showing it off. That’s what the Robot Showcase is for, right? We want others to join in on the fun.

our team decided not to use tracks this year for one overriding reason. with tracks, you can't really straddle anything. When you reach the top of the ramp, the front half will stick out a couple inches in the air. If another robot is coming from the other side of the ramp and slams into you when your nose is in the air, you're gonna get tipped. hasn't this bothered anybody else?

no offense meant to team 45, those tracks look awesome - this is just an observation on tracks in general

Lotsa 506 Robot Pics. Be sure to say hi on our message board and let us know what you think.

Joe Matt 08-02-2003 23:28

Team 384 has made a decisions (and I will agree to it), NO pictures of Sparky will be up. EVER. If you take them, then upload them, fine, but no pictures of Sparky will be up at all before the event at VCU.

Look for him there.

Since we won't be at VCU, I suppose we'll never see your 'bot. EVER. Seems pretty silly to me, but a team decision is a team decision.
