And to to back up evulish, I don't think Mandy Moore's music style was the problem, but the fact that FIRST paid her to do something we frankly could care less about (no offense). Evulish simply was saying that if they skipped Moore and went with the lazer show or something, they would save money and have something everyone would like.

My problem isn't with anybody's prefered musical style. It is with the repeated snide remarks about Ms Moore's appearance at Nationals last year.

I don't know whether she was paid or not. I really don't care. I don't know that I've even heard her music as my tastes are definitely not main stream (Zydeco and Celtic) and regretfully, I wasn't there.

BUT she was a "guest in our camp" so to speak. She was invited to be there. As such, she deserves at least the respect we give each other instead of being treated like some kind of inside joke.

If I paid somebody to paint the inside of my house purple and green, (or pick your own tasteless combination) you could question MY taste. But it would be inappropriate to criticize the painter for doing what he was asked, even if he specializes in purple and green. Doing so in the local newspaper is even worse.

If you didn't like her music, or her performance that's your problem. Just don't keep bringing it up. I would be embarassed to have her reading this forum. In my mind, that is a problem all by itself. It's been nine months, get over it.

And in all honesty, you could've skipped her performance entirely. We went to Disney right before she started and they were allowing us into the party at that point.

I'm no Mandy Moore fan, but I mean really now...does it mean THAT much to you to complain about something that could've totally been avoided THIS long afterwards?

I have been involved with FIRST since 1998 and have seen many changes. The change that bothers me the most has been the attitude of some of the students. One of the underlying concepts of FIRST has been gracious professionalism. The night of the Mandy Moore concert will go down as the most embarrasing I have seen. Mandy Moore didn't ask to be there, she was asked to be there. The mass exodus of FIRST participants was sad. I am not a Mandy Moore fan, but I was willing to stay and watch the show. It seems if the entertainment isn't perfect, many feel walking out is OK. There is nothing gracious or professional about this type of action. We should be very careful, or our attitudes will harm FIRST more than any change of venue could ever do.

enh, music... just hire a dj man.... i really could have gone without mandy moore and i walked out. but for the people that were fans then i guess it all worked out. hahaha, some guys on our team had a band last year, northpoint, and they threw a copy of their cd to her, i don't know if anything came of it though, but i suppose not because they all went to college and are now broken up.

Ok, this was all discussed to death last year.
