National Team "Social"

What are they doing for the "Social" in Houston. Were is it and what are we going to do without music.

Yan Wang 29-01-2003 13:15

Dunno, but my guess would be the Six Flags there... there's a shuttle from the stadium to get there so it's probable that FIRST has booked the place.

If you take a look here you will read in the first paragraph what the team social for the Championship event is. They have not posted on other venues as to weather or not they are streamlined and what will be cut from the streamlined events.

FIRST recently sent out a reminder to team contacts to update the number of students that will be attending the team social at each regional.

It seems that the determination of which regionals will become "streamlined" depends on the number of students attending. So, maybe FIRST is shuttling money around a bit this season. But, with that said, I haven't the slightest idea whether highly attended regionals or smaller regionals would be chosen to have a social. More people results in higher cost, perhaps, but with a larger pay off?

Who knows?

National "Team Social"

Remember your team needs to purchase the "Hotel Packages" if you plan on attending any of the FIRST activities at Six Flags.

The only exception is if your team is from the "Greater Houston Area"

So buy those packages - No Tickee, No Party

I've got connections and I can tell you that FIRST isn't happy about the streaminlining. One thing I can tell, many regionals might dump the party and go with a cheeper social where drinks are served and music is played. This would allow other places to keep the video wall and their social.

That incident happened at a regional, not at nationals...

I'm getting REALLY tired of this. I probably don't like the music you listen to or the morals of those that create it, but I don't make snide remarks about them either.

Ms Moore is a professional musician, she came out and did a job which she was either asked or paid to do. Unlike much of the stuff people who post here listen to, apparently her music does fit the guidelines FIRST considers appropriate.

Leave the poor girl alone, will you. Either that or start listening to music that has socially redeeming content.

My feelings exactly ... well, except for maybe that last sentence. ;)

Anyway, back to the team social.

What are everyone's feelings on having to have the hotel packages in order to get into the party?

This is something our team is struggling with right now ... The cost of one of the packages will be, for us, about $4,000 more than what it would be if we stayed at a hotel of our choosing. Now, I do realize that the cost of the party (food, opening the park for FIRST, etc.) is covered in some of that $4,000 ... but it still seems a little much. What do you think?

Katie, I feel your pain - the cost difference for our team is in excess of $6000.00. You have to realize that these additional fees cover alot of different things: Food Tickets, Two Day Tickets to Six Flags - one night exclusively for FIRST - there are TWO special events, one Friday Night, and another BBQ on Saturday night, transportation to and from hotels, commitments to Hotels to hold rooms, administration and service fees, plus allowing teams to do one stop shopping for all their travel needs. And for some teams that's priceless.....

Even with the additional costs I'd be willing to bet a box of Crispy Creams that it is less expensive this year, than what you paid for the packages last year at WDW.:p

ianbbat 29-01-2003 18:00

:-(

we can't afford the package, which means there will be no team 21 at the social...

Maybe we could rent out a club or something?

We never paid for the packages at WDW ... We always stayed at the Best Western in Lake Buena Vista (gotta love those balconies!!) :)

Oh, I misspoke before ... it will cost us $4,000 than what it did last year. It will be $5,500 more, than if we were to stay at the hotel of our choosing. Anyway, carry on!

Ouch, guess I owe you a box of Crispy Creams - do they have them in Houston?

See you at the Nationals - hope you find me before Dave Lavery does - doing the Gila Dance makes you real hungry and since he's now an honorary "Gila" he was promised a lesson. And we ALL know how Dave loves those Crispy Cream Dounuts....:yikes:

I find your statment extremely offensive, the person INJURED at a regional was my team mate, and best friend. It's not in the slightest bit funny. Chris nearly died, and it wasn't his fault. Unknown people picked him up, forcing him to be passed around the crowd. He was dropped, landing on his head, and suffered a massive head injury as a result. Chris is doing a ton better now, he's back to his usuall self, but is still dependant on pain killers and also has to go to frequent doctor's appointments. This disgusts me, for your own personal benifit, I suggest you retract your statement.

As for the lack of music, so what...it's still fun. There's plenty of music during the competitons, ( who cares if it's the same 9 songs over and over again ).
