a girl on our team, volleygrrl234, has stalkers from other teams. we joke about it all the time. i'm not going to say what teams they are because some of them may be viewing CD:p

haha NO JOKE! its happend to me b4, i was online last year talking 2 people about their ideas for fundraising, and so then in florida about 3 people went to my pit area looking for me--it was scary, but so freakin funny...hehe

Ah, we have a post about meeting new people turn into a conversation about stalkers.. Well, if you gals out there want some advice, tell them you're not attracted to the opposite sex.. It works, I saw it done at New England Regionals two years ago, of all places.. My friend was getting stalked and well, the guy stopped afterwards.. ::shrug:: Who knows, might work for you too..

Then again, I'm just a guy so what would I know..

This is kinda like one of the minimal advantages of going to Rose-Hulman (with a 15:1 guy to girl ratio)... i can have my pick because we are in the minority! But I'm not saying that that is the only thing i would base my college descison on... it just makes it look better!

hmm seems like im not the only girl whose realizes that for once the odds work out in the female's favor! we're the minority at these competitons but, i dont think its all too bad~

hey dont feel bad...last year, i was the first female human player my team had ever had...not to mention that every year our 2 drivers have always been male. i think a lot more girls have been getting involved latly.

well, I'm up here at Clarkson U... and it's probably about the same as RIT... towards the end of the semester after a few weeks up here you start to forget what a girl is...

Sounds sort of like our team...

Just remember the 4 points of dating with FIRST (recently updated!):

1.) Never date on your own team.

2.) If you must date on your own team, dont date one of your own kind (aka the driver should not be dating the human player, people on the strategy team shouldn't date eachother, etc)

3.) If you date someone outside of FIRST, just common courtesy here: explain FIRST and how much time you will be spending towards it...communication leads to understanding. And hey, maybe they'll want to get involved too.

and the newest realization:
4.) If you keep a level head about things, whether it be fling or serious relationship, the people you connect with within the Competition make the dearest friends afterwards.

Now, I have seen all four of these points broken and be fairly succesful....but thats what Ive run into in my crazy travels.

the duct tape girl was from my team.... hehehe, when she left the team she asked me to carry on her legacy, needless to say I saw how uncomfortable she was in the duct tape so it died quite quickly! Oh well, we've come up with new and wacky ways to show team spirit, with crazy hair, face paint, body paint, embroidered team sports bras and such...

lol, we tried 2 do ducttape once, but nobody liked the idea (cough cough)

Oh, Summergrl - our ratio of adults to *active* students is about 15:24 ... give or take a few on both sides....

Our team has about 16-1 7 boys and 5-6 girls....we never have an accurate roster until it is time to pay travel money...but we basically have the same ratio of boys to girls every year (since i have been on the team)

how about a duct tape kilt? I am making one to wear to nationals. GO kilts! and maybe my team will wear them also. But i dont think so. They will just point and laugh. Anyone want to wear a kilt with me? Utilikilts it the best place for kilts.

I'm more than happy to wear a kilt!! Anything to make people point ant laugh I'll do. To me, FIRST means surrendering your dignity (what's that?) at the door and facing the pink flamingos and cheese wheels with all the force of a tortoise crossing a hot desert road (which must be quite a bit, slow, torquey, moving the weight of the shell, overcoming friction, etc).

I just read the article about Rose and the lack of women there... believe me, i experienced it first-hand when I was out there one weekend staying with a friend. It was like they had been deprived of women for months! I mean, here I am a 17-yr. old junior and guys 3 years older were paying attention to me! But like you said, the odds are good, but SOME of the goods are odd... have you heard the acronym Rich Husbands In Training?! I think its somewhat appropriate, but at this rate, its wives too!

Heh, I hadn't heard that before. For those of you going :confused: right now, Rose-Hulman's full name is Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (RHIT). When I was over there at their summer program, one of the counselors told me of a senior prank they witnessed. Near the main entrance to the school, there is a fairly large 'RHIT' spelled out in shrubbery. Well, one year, the senior class dug up the R, and replaced it with an S...I found it quite amusing.

haha.... I am sitting here at school on a friday night supposed to be working on a power point for a rolls-royce presentation. Your story made me laugh out loud... Did you by chance do the catapult program at Rose? I was interested in doing that this summer.

Yes, Operation Catapult was a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend it if you're considering Rose. The field trips (to the Caterpillar Plant, a transmission manufacture plant, and various other things - like paintball) made it even better. It was prolly the best three weeks of my summer ;) I met only 4 other FIRST people there, which was kinda surprising, but still I had a great time. Plus, since you go through normal admissions criteria to get into the summer program, you have a pretty good chance of getting into Rose - such that you actually fill out an application while there. The professors, I suspect, act as the teacher recommendation, so stand out :) I got my acceptance letter from Rose in mid October, which really took a lot of stress off of this school year. Finally, the counselors there are actually students from Rose, who of course are really cool and energetic. You can browse through the 'top secret' page they put together for my session with all of our projects here

I went through Catapult during my junior year in HS, (lo these 7 years hence) and it was a great experience. I went in not knowing anything about electrical engineering, and came out deciding that I wanted to be an electrical engineer.

The only people I recognize in the Catapult page were Dan Costenaro and Dr. Ditteon. I guess Rose is moving on without me. <sniff>.

Duct Tape. Now there's a competition for couples going to prom to win like $2500 in scholarship money for wearing DuckTape brand dresses/suits. I've got a picture of my ex-girlfriend who actually did this with one of her female friends. It's attached.

But come on people. There're girls on these teams. There are just few who actually freak out enough to come on here as much as us. There are even some on here OTHER than Carolyn. Carolyn and I go back, we'll get Dave Lavery back. I swear it.

But anyways. I've seen them on here. They even have pictures. Weird eeh? (saturated in sarcasm).

I remember team 401, you guys were awesome last year! I'm not quite sure how this came up but I don't think we should go into this story. Megan wasn't there, JoJo and I were the only 2 from our team. Megan was covering for me at our hotel. I feel priveledged to have been allowed to chill with the Hokies, or at least get in trouble with some of y'all. And yeah, as far as ratios and stuff, chicks have the advantage until we graduate high school. Then we don't. And I get dibs on the first hug to you Adam unless you hide from me, then I'll just be sad.
