Robotics Prom! Help!!!

hey guys! help a fellow robotics person out! I have had a bad couple of weeks and I seriously doubt my boyfrind will be able to make it to my junior/senior prom! (oh no!!!) well, since I am always at robotics it seems this gives me very little chance to go about looking for a date, and most of my teammates are scared of dances.... don't ask me why! anyways, if you're a guy that might me willing to come with me to my prom on saturday, may 10, 2003 in Hammond, Indiana (well actually prom is held in Merrilville but it's close) reply to this!!
thanks!

Jeremy_Mc 30-01-2003 00:04

i'll take you!

anyone else comes near this thread you'll have to wrestle me! *snarls*

Oh the possibilities

May 10th...May 10th....the weekend after X2 opens (EVERYONE GO SEE IT!!!!)....I'm not home for the summer yet...but I love a good prom. The robot prom from last year was just awesome. You can't beat half the team at one prom. I'd have to see about going home that weekend....maybe if you could find a guy to take a certain someone from up north as well.

Don't you love the vaugeness?

Jeremy_Mc: I can't wrestle...unless you mean THUMB WRESTLING!

It's things like this that make me wish I lived in Indiana.

I personally hate dances (yes, that includes proms). Not my type of thing, plus I probably couldn't find someone to go with. It has always been suggested to me that I find some FIRSTer in the area to go as a friend, so this may be an effective means of finding a date for any major dance. Now, I have many female friends in FIRST, but I'm wondering how many of them would be willing to go to a prom with me. You see, all this confusion in a guys head is why I stay away from dances all together.

Anyhow, I wish you luck trying to find a date. I hear there's lots of elegible FIRST bachelors in that area.

hixofthehood 30-01-2003 18:44

She's not going to have any problems finding a date. She even already did.

Ah, I can't wait for my prom. I'm definitely taking a lucky girl from the robotics team. It'll be great, but as I am only a humble sophomore, it'll also be over a year away.

Katie Reynolds 30-01-2003 18:58

Haha, I went to the senior prom Kokomo, IN this past November. (see picture) It was great - DJ (45) and myself (93), Kyle (45) and Molly (formerly of 45), Eric (45) and his date went together. It was fun. :)

We have many a fine gentleman on our team who would be more than willing to take you...

All you have to do is post exactly what the Team Hammond bot does this season...

Cmon... we won't tell anybody... :D

David66 30-01-2003 19:27

LoL, I would take you if I lived near Hammond. As a matter of fact I live in Ypsilanti, MI. And I'm on team 66. Were you in Florida with your team last season? Cause I think I recognize you, LoL.

Visit the Team 66 website www.willowrunrobotics.com

COLOR=royalblue]yeah i was on the team last year! you guys were so cool (penguins and rage, such nice people!!! actually, so many people at nationals were very nice unless they like refused to talk because they stuck with their own team too much... :-P)[/color]

hehe, good one! but alas.... i would be dead, and then i would not need a date.

what? no i haven't yet! haha, i'm not making any final decision til late march or maybe early april, haha! or maybe after nationals! this way i might be able to meet someone and bribe them to make the trip... although i do have a couple people in mind as possibilities.... but no final decision yet, so i still need some help! hahaha!

yes! robotics proms are fun, last year most of our team went to the gavit high school (hammond indiana) prom, but i was strange and went to morton's (also in hammond) anyway, we all had fun and the people at gavit's prom even took a "robotics" picture.... which by the way... i have yet to recieve! :ahh:

and MAXFLI- hahaha, you aren't really on the team! you're just our groupie! but it's ok, we still love you! (until you make a rose hulman team, then we just love you less... just kidding!)

MRL180YTL2002 31-01-2003 10:22

If I'm going to prom....the rumors for South Fork is April 12 or April 26th. Now if its the 12th....I'm in Houstin for the Championships. Duh! If its the 26th.....maybe I'll go with.... click this (and scroll down to my last post on page 7) Pamela. Who'd ya think I'd ask. Last year I missed prom and well, we both we at the FIRST Championshipn which is a lot more fun than a dance. But at least this year if I'm going...I pay for half. Seniors go for free :p ....which is a good thing as I don't have a lot of cash.

Sorry I cannot help you here because of IB testing in May. Yikes!!!! That bites!!!!!

Hey mike.... prom is definately the 26th of APril... it's been set in stone for quite some time now. Trust me, it's not the same week as nationals.... cuz if it were, I would cry. I missed last years prom for nationals as well.

Gr! now there is a 98% chance as opposed to the original 50% chance that i am going to need one of you guys to come to prom! Oh noooo! (Boyfriend will be very very far away and most likely unable to import in!) Gah! :(

:D guys! i totally found the dress i'm going to buy! hahaha! i like it so much i said totally! actually, this is the dress i have liked, but i went to chicago and tried it on, and i love it times 30 million! you know what... this is my thread... can i prefer people with accents? hehe, i'm just kidding. i'm very non discriminatory! haha, now i wonder if any of you guys would be willing to wear pink to match....

I'm just kidding! I like a good old black tux, but a pink vest/tie would be very very cool! :D

Ashley Weed 02-02-2003 16:43

Hey... good luck on your search.... I missed my Junior Prom last year due to Championship... .... ... we just had our Senior Ball two weeks ago..
<<<<(check out picture)
.... it is really fun meeting up with fellow FIRSTers at formals.... it's interesting to see someone go from saw dust and WD-40... to ties and heels :)

Elyse Holguin 02-02-2003 23:39

as i am in prom committee and kind of decided where prom would be among other things, i would be very very angry if i missed it. luckily, i was also on the group that chose the date so i think may 10th is far enough away to not conflict, and if it does, well, whatever else will be cancelled! :D

on a not realted note, luis if you read this i'm really sorry bout you getting kicked out today! hahahaha!!!

torn_paperdoll 03-02-2003 02:07

*laughs*

I'm sorry that you are forced to do this to get a date.. *laughs* that is really sad.. Not that you are sad or anything.. :D Guys are strange.. Hope you find a date, but judging by your responses, you shouldn't be having such a hard time after all.. ;)

I missed prom last year because of Championship....not that I didn't mind cause I did not want to go (championship is more fun). This year I'm going....we at South Fork almost missed it this year if FIRST put the Championships in the last week of April.

Whoah. A+ for subtlety.

I'm not into the whole formal dance thing, sadly (well, not really sadly), and Indiana ain't real close to California...

Besides the fact that I don't know you at all.

Elyse Holguin 04-02-2003 00:34

:D thanks badjokeguy

enh, not exactly sad, but if i can't go with the one i originally wanted to go with, i might as well try importing someone from far away, because then it would be fun to say i met them at robotics. that, and since i have known all the guys at my school since like, oh man, kindergarten.... in school dates aren't an ption since all the boys are either dating someone or your best friend or taken or you wouldn't be able to be paid to date them. that, and girls outnumvber guys here. in my classes, the average number of guys is about 2 to 4. bah. very very uncool. hehehe, but most of my friends and myself imported our dates from purdue west lafayette for formal. :) very very fun.

FotoPlasma 04-02-2003 00:45

You're talk about "importing" guys, and all I can think of are $6million fabrege egg from 16th Century Russia.

With a gender ratio like that, Evulish might want to think about transfering to your school... :p *rimshot*

Greg Perkins 04-02-2003 07:31

what can i say im smooth :)

LBK Rules 04-02-2003 08:44

When you say "importing", the first that comes to mind is importing 3ds files into Anim8or.

Maybe I am spending too much time with my computer.

Get up from the computer.
Go outside.
Get some air.
Enjoy the fresh air and the natural beauty without thinking how to capture the scene so you can render it for the background for an outdoor scene.

Yeah, same here. I took Pamela on 179 to my school's homecoming. Not to sure whether I'll ask her to prom or not as we are in different schools, IB program, robotics, etc.. but its April 26th so I might ask. Maybe I should quit posting and ask her....and she's mine so don't even think about it!

Da SPAMinatress 04-02-2003 23:18

so now you own her? i don't know, but if i were her, and i saw all these posts about me, I wouldn't be too happy... i mean, i wouldn't want my private life, or every aspect of my relationship, even if it were only a close friendship, to be broadcasted for the world to see

call me crazy, but i feel i know more about yours and Pam's "relationship" than i do about my own "relationship"

and please don't take this personal... i just wouldn't want my own relationship to be public... especially when i don't know whats being said and such (as i'm sure Pam doesn't)

good luck with that!! :D

but yeah... eek, possessiveness scares some people...

FotoPlasma 05-02-2003 00:33

In regard to the last two posts: Yeah, the whole "posession" thought scares me. If I ever find myself in another relationship, I'll make it as much a point not to think of her as a posession as I ever have. That is to say, not at all.

People make their own decisions, and I think I'm barely competent to make decisions for myself, much less considering anyone else my property.

Insert obtuse political philosophy here.

Me being someone else's property, on the other hand... That's different. :p

MRL180YTL2002 05-02-2003 08:49

Posessive...nope...not really. This is me we're talking about here. Actually, to me she is my best friend in the whole wide world. I care about her a lot. Anyway, the reason why I put "She's mine" is really meant as a really good friend of mine. So its really not posession rather its comes out to really how much I care. Its easier using her name besides it has been public eveb\n before I started posting for the world to see. Just cause you didn't know then, now you do. It doesn't take a genius to figure out we like one another. Geez....I hope you guys and gasl don't take it personally. I have told her that I am posting this stuff.

goosefrom71 thanks...I need to tell her a few things as well so I might as well ask.

...eww, april 11th? not good timing... see, that's why you need to be on prom committee, you can choose the date, and the whole reason behind our may 10 prom was b/c i had a feeling anything in april would probably interfere with something....

Jonathan M. 25-02-2003 21:32

I live in Hammond and on the Same botix's team as Elyse. Maybe I should try for prom with her. Well it's her prom so she is suppose to ask (if the person is from a diffrent school).
Its worth a try.

MRL180YTL2002 06-03-2003 10:09

I know at my school you can take "guests" as long as they're under 21 I believe and you fill out the guest approval form. I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same else where.

Brm789 06-03-2003 10:49

You have to fill out a forum to bring a guest to prom? WHAT!?? Ok, now I really do love my school.

TomFrom71 11-03-2003 00:07

Nevermind Peeps I am out of the running.

Mark Hamilton 14-03-2003 23:41

we'll send you Jim via Yellow Freight, but your responsible for shipping him back in time for UCF...

Elyse Holguin 15-03-2003 03:10

we have to fill out forms too... but they're just approved, i don't think they actually check to see who's going... since we've had some very old, very strange people come to prom in years past.

and yellow freight? is that safe?

Mark Hamilton 16-03-2003 09:55

Ask whoever is in charge of shipping for your team about Yellow Freight, they will probably know. Let's just say we used to ship our robot crates with them and ussually got them back with holes, dents, and long gouges (and these are some very tough crates).

Specialagentjim 16-03-2003 20:43

Hey, that sounds better than some of the other ideas our team has had...

...at least im getting there via a commercial shipper. (Usually a team 108 plan involves something to the extent of a catapult....)

but, hey, If it gets me up there :D

bah, never mind, although i ended up getting a teammate as a date for prom, i recieved a letter saying i HAVE to be at Indiana University Bloomington (like, 4 hours away) on May 10, for my orientation for studying abroad in Germany this summer.... but, well... i get Germany out of it! and snce there's NO way i can get back.... i had to tel the prom committee sponsor and then i cried because i can't even see what i worked for. so grr to that.

there are off season non official competitions..... like IRI, chief delphi... if they have it again (please guys?), rumble on the rock.... etc..

Jonathan M. 11-04-2003 21:23

Hmm I wonder if the Upstate teams could organize some off season competition this summer... That'd rule. I'll talk to some mentors when we get off Spring Break the week after next. Late Spring Break eh? Well we have our own Scrimage before we ship so I don't see why the Upstate (SC), NC, and other local-ish teams can't have one. We'll see....

Dude, IB exams aren't really that hard...
People make them seem as so much worse than they really are...
there is not much need to review if you payed attention all year.

Da SPAMinatress 14-04-2003 12:34

which IB exams have you taken? and... they will be hard if you haven't learned anything due to incompetent teachers...
