Chairman's Award Executive Summary

Our team PR head asked me to post a question on here about the 2003 Chairman's Award Submission Executive Summary document. Our team is wondering if the answers to the questions on this form have to fit into the space provided (only 2-3 lines) or if we can extend on that? does anyone know? thanks..

Redhead Jokes 30-01-2003 17:18

I asked that same question on FIRST forums and haven't gotten an answer

Yes, I'll be notified by email alert on the other answer, and will post it here.

You let me know if you here elsewhere what the answer is.

"The Executive Summary is a form. Use it as it is. Do not change the margins or lines. " from FIRST

I'm sorting out a word doc so I can print our words on their form. I need my husband to help me fine tune it. Want me to share it with you when I'm done?

Jacqui Sutton 31-01-2003 23:30

that would be fantastic!! i havent talked to our pr person, but im sure she would definately rather do that than write it on there ourselves, and i dont think anyone in our group knows computers well enough to format it to fit like that :-P thanks for the offer, we'd really appreaciate it!

Jeremy_Mc 01-02-2003 02:37

do you think you could post that in the white papers maybe?

our maybe just e-mail it to me?

thanks :)

BTW, have you written and worked on your yearbook page in advance since that's a mandatory part of the chairman's award interview? You can't submit it online yet, but what we did was write everything out, and keep tweeking it, so that when we can submit it online, we'll be prepared. We'll probably have to trim some of our present answers.

I'll post that in white papers.

From FIRST Forums...

"In the past we have scanned in the Executive Summary Form and typed our text in the spaces provided and changed the margins to make use of the page. A previous reply has said that this is unacceptable? The two lines don't provide enough room to provide any valuable information. If we are not changing the design of the form and we are still fitting it on one page with 10pt font, why is this not acceptable?"

"The Executive Summary form is just that, a summary for the Judges to review. You can cover the information in depth on the other pages. "

I've asked them to clairify cuz if that team has in the past typed or written on FIRST's form to take advantage of the blank space, why can't they continue to do it?

Jacqui Sutton 03-02-2003 16:53

i dont see the sense in that --- some of us have bad handwriting! if we could type on it, on the lines provided, even just using a type writer without changing the margins or anything, it would make it a lot easier for both the students writing the document and also for the judges who have to read it,,,

I was a forms analyst and forms designer for the Yucca Mountain Project in Vegas. The FIRST form could use a lot of improvements.

However we'll work with whatever we've got. I'd prefer a clear answer from them tho. I don't see anything that says the app will be disqualified if your answers don't fit exactly on the two lines provided after each question.

Hey, I'm confused, is there a difference between the Executive Summary and the Yearbook Page? Im supposed to be working on the YB Page but since FIRST hasnt posted the form I have no clue what to collaborate to get ready so I don't have to do it all at once when they decide to get the file on usfirst.org, any info on this would be much appreciated!

~*~thanks~*~

Yes, there's a difference. Both are required for the chairman's award app. Yearbook page is required by all teams.

Executive Summary page 8...
awards

white paper based on last year's yearbook page.

I had replied to the FIRST answer and she/he just let me know she doesn't reply to replies.

I've posted the following...
"In the past we have scanned in the Executive Summary Form and typed our text in the spaces provided and changed the margins to make use of the page...If we are not changing the design of the form and we are still fitting it on one page with 10pt font, why is this not acceptable?"
"The Executive Summary form is just that, a summary for the Judges to review. You can cover the information in depth on the other pages."

I understand that it's a summary page and info can be covered in the yearbook page and the chairman's award application.

I think the question was if handwritten or typed text goes "over" the 2 lines provided under the questions, does that disqualify the application? I've searched online and executive summaries from the past did make use of the full page, and had whited out any lines.

Jacqui Sutton 04-02-2003 16:45

Yearbook Page

Our team also has questions about the yearbook page... there's some info on it in the administation section of the manual, but not much...what is it??? what's it supposed to have on it ? and i thought i read that you were supposed to post it on firsts website, but.. i cant find it on there? Though our team isnt a *rookie team* - we do have a team full of rookies - only one student memeber of our team has ever been in this before, and so we're a little lost on this one.. any help would be appreciated :-) thanks

On FIRST forums they asked and answered someone else...

"our team scanned the Executive Summary form into the computer so that we could neatly type in our responses. By doing that, the computer automatically changes the margins of the document. Will there be a problem submitting the scanned form?

"The document should look like the one in the Manual. If yours looks different and scanning has changed the margins, perhaps you can try different software or a different scanner "

It's again not an answer to the real question - would their application be disqualified.

Excellent!

Nice job, now the hard part :
the body of the Chairman's
Award- striking balance between text and pics...
this seem to be the biggest issue the teams are
having right now (I won't even get into "color
schemes" topic)

Best wishes.
:D

Ours is done and awesome. We have a wonderful sophomore graphics marvel who works easily with us adults. It was all his ideas, and my collecting the content for him. We'll post it after the "ship" date.
