Limit on sensors

Hey, can anyone tell me if there are any limits on sensors?

Gusman1188 01-02-2003 15:27

The amount of sensors you can use.

Duke 13370 01-02-2003 15:27

Yes, money, and you can only use 2 servos.

Gusman1188 01-02-2003 15:32

What do the servos have to do with the line sensors?

Duke 13370 01-02-2003 15:46

you never said line sensors, but you can have unlimited optical sensors (as long as they fit in the budget rule)

You can use as many of the $72 Banner sensors that you want, but they are included in the $3,500 total limit. If you buy other types of sensors, they fall under the $200 limit. I asked FIRST and this was their response. It looks like we are using at least six at the front of the robot for line tracking. Good Luck.

Cost is not the only limit; the robot controller limits you to 7 analog and 16 digital inputs.

You can use sensors with a custom circuit as well.

If you filled all those up, I would be very shocked.:yikes:

6 line tracking sensors across the front of your bot? We've got ours to work nearly flawlessly with 3 sensors. The only reason we'd add more is to have some on the back of the bot or further off the front for an extra special maneuver ;)

Chubtoad 03-02-2003 09:29

I'm Talkin Traction Control.

We're going to have 4 opticals on our bot, for some nice AWD action :D

and 3 more for line tracking.

I was scared cause yesterday i was like "Oh crap do the optical sensors have to be under $200 if we use them with the custom circuit" but since they are not from digi-key or FIA and they are listed us unlimited they do not count toward the $200, @ $61 (plus shipping) a pop, we're glad the ones they gave us in past years were the same model number. The only difference we can tell is the viewable light it emits so you can see where it is hitting.

yay for optical sensors!

We filled up all our digital sensors ;-) It's a pretty complicated robot this year for us

Yeah, here's a picture of us using a few digi-inputs. For organizational purposes, we left the wires that terminate nearby open and the ones that have to travel a bit in 24awg cat5 cabling. Came out pretty fun ;-)
