Wheels & Driving

Hey,
Reading the extra parts list, it is quoted the uunder wheels, Skyway wheels any amount any size. Skyway has quite a few wheels, especially some that aren't smooth rubber like the wheelchair wheels provided in the kit. http://www.skywaytuffwheels.com/, is there website. Are we allowed to use any of the whhel types that are shown here? The rules same any amount and any size, but not type. Can Anyone Clarify?

Also, has anyone considered using the Chiaupa motors for drive train this year? Maybe with a 3 or 4 to 1 gear ratio they would give the much extra need torque when pulling goals/robots/what ever else you grab. Anyone tried it Yet?

Thanks,
Ryan Curry

If you are planning on using the Chiaphua motors, you will have to build some sort of gearbox. If you look at the specs, you will see a top speed of 5500 RPM. I'd say that would take more than a 3:1 or 4:1 reduction to acheive a drivable speed.

As to the wheels, it is my understanding that ANY Skyway wheels are legal. There are some pretty nice wheels on there.

Do they have anything in a 16" Snow tire that might fit a '99 New Beetle?

I ask not for our robot, but for my own car! :D

We had another snowy day today....this is the 2nd weekend in a row...and BOTH after the FIRST kickoff.

Man, the New England teams are at a disadvantage right now.....but we will get our snow tires on and get the job done!

But really....we did find the selection of tires to be great. We are using a slightly large pheumatic tire with an aggressive tread. Nice....
