i used to hunt for free hosts a while back, http://www.freewebspace.net/ was one of the best sites i found for free hosts. They have reviews for free hosts and also a forum that talk about hosts. Sometimes you can get paid hosting for free. Just hang around the forums alot. I got lucky many times.

though now since i can afford hosting, its better then free anyday.

Pfft. Real men use Slack or LFS :D I use Debian, Slack, and a bit of LFS. I'm not totally sure what that makes me :D Real men use Lindows!!! *runs away*

i agree...slack is indeed the best.

i also enjoy all that root linux (now THAT is hardcore) and gentoo have to offer.

i made an LFS one time, but it disappointed me...i didn't feel all special or anything :(

Agh, lucky sod! We have our harker-robotics.org domain on some iffy virtualhost (cwihosting.com) but we have DB support and hence we can run phpBB. the school is footing the bill, though. so who's arguing?

If you have a cable, always on internet connection, you could probably host your website yourself with little trouble, and you can install all the PHP and SQL and phpBB you want. My webserver http://triplehelix.org is a K6-2 450 running Debian GNU/Linux.. works great for me =D. And I just have a DSL line, 1536/288. But you need quite a bit of free time to set it up just the way you like it ... :)
