Motor Humming

Yeah I just dropped in our drive train, its all mounted ina unibody aluminum frame. And after we wired it up we test drove it with wieghts in it to simulate a fully loaded robot. Once it started to move (and boy how fast it moves) It is giving out a loud hum from the Cim motors, so any ideas what might get rid of the hum????? Any help would be great Thanks

Well, the CIM motors do make a humming noise of some sort, but I don't know if the noise you are hearing is the normal operation noise or not.

Widen the deadband in your program for the motor control. The motor is humming because it is trying to move very slowly.

Thanks

How much should we widen it by? Any guess's

Thanks alot guys this really helps alot!!!!!

I would start with 117 to 137 as your deadband. So, if the output is from 117 to 126, force it to 127. Or if the output is from 128 to 137, force it to 127...

Test it and if it's too large, shrink it down. If it's too small, increase it...
