Team 30's bot-- nearly completed

hey guys.. tell me what you think of our bot. :)

we can stack boxes, and right now, we're resting at a comfortable 12" tall. we havent mounted electronics, battery, or compressor yet, but we're about 76 lbs so far, so we're doing fine w/ weight..

and for those of you out there who're saying "scissor lifts are wobbly and never sturdy", we lifted a stack of 5(that was as many boxes as we could gather without taking my temporary driver's seat) and kicked the lift repeatedly(to simulate the competition.. the boxes barely moved, even the top box :)

...we gotta win something to go to nats... GO TEAM FURY!!!

Nice bot. It looks really compact and efficient - nothing extra or fancy. One question: Can you pick up boxes in any orientation? Other than that, really cool. Good luck.

not yet.. that'll be our next mod(well, maybe.. depends on what we decide on monday when we start working again..)
right now, we can use the lift to flip boxes over and stuff (if u know what ur doing).. its kinda tough if u dont know what ur doing.. but boxes that are right side up... be afraid... be very afraid...

You realize that statistically you can only expect 1 or 2 of the boxes in the middle pile to land right side up? That leaves human player bins...

Yes, but do YOU realize, 80% of all statistics are made up right on the spot?

Yes, as long as you realize that number was based on a controlled experiment.

Fair Enough. Now that we've competed in some mock competitions and I've seen the stack tumble down from the platform, I am inclined to agree even more.

Before that point, I thought it to be a more random event; bins landing right-side-up. It is obviously not a common thing.

It seems like many that made StackerBots are expecting more bins to be right-side-up. Since the majority do land on their sides, it seems like that is how they should have planned on handling them.

What I am trying to say now is this; If you can only design the robot to be able to handle bins in ONE orientation, it should be to handle them when they are on their sides.

Balls, last year's pick up item, was a walk in the park compared to these bins. I have a lot of respect for the teams that went for stacker bots.

we're making a modification that should let us grab boxes in any orientation.
