Buzz words like chamfer, I.D, projected, etc. find themselves in conversations really not meant for those words. The night before ship night you stay till 7'o clock in the morning, pickup your backpack and go to class the "next day" you are tri-lingual - English, German and C+ Inventor is used for more than just robotics - includes school projects ^^^your friends come to you to make designs for them - including a boat...with potato gun cannons on it Everyone automatically thinks your going to go into engineering, but you are actually going into medicine. |

You begin reading the Spotlighted posts (or as I like to call them the pearls of wisdom) b/c all the open threads have been read. - I got to page 3 and then I started cheating a bit and skipped to Daves name to read the pearls of wisdom he had offered - most of what he said is true and the others was showing his funny & good sense of humor side.
You begin to Google Dean Kamen, Dave Lavery and Woodie Flowers to read their Bio's and whatever other articles are associated with them. - I wouldn't say I was completely bored, I just needed something to do to take my mind off of the build season (not like it weighs a whole lot on my mind to start with :D :p ;) ), My online PS2 Gaming and such. So I googled Dave Lavery - Got the phone number to his office and a mailing address =) Have no clue if it is still the same or not, and then I goggled Dean to read some stuff on him, I had no clue he had his own Island of the Long Island Sound and that it is its own unofficial country complete with currency and flag. Sometime today I will google Woodie and read up on him. |

-Your hands are a permanent shade of gray/black from all the dirt and grease. -You have a grease stain on you arm from the beginning of build season. -You look at your clock, which says 10:32, and immediatlely think of screws. -You haven't changed your clothes in who knows how long. -You suffer from withdrawl when away from the machine shop. -You start singing "I love to lathe" to the tune of "I love to laugh". -When you take off your saftey glasses and it feels like they're still on your face. -When you wake up in the morning and realize that the robot that wasn't finished yesterday won't be finished today or the day after. -When you lose your voice more than 6 times while cheering for your team or alliance. -When you feel like your heart is going to stop because your team made it to the semifinals. -You see nothing but a mill and random aluminum parts for 6 weeks starting in January. -You can memorize team numbers from the alliances you were with last year (675, 670, 1120... 2006 "Aim High" Quarterfinalists, San Jose/Silicon Valley Regional) -It's easier for you to remember FIRST team numbers or names than it is famous people or major "sports" teams. -You think that FIRST (including FRC, FVC, and FLL) is the only real sport. (I think this because you actually have to work to get to compete, then you get to watch the fruits of your labor perform a challenge, plus all of the time and energy put in before the competitions even start.) -You start seeing orange and black hats in your sleep. (Curse you, Team 100!) -You begin to think up new, crazy strategies, and they comply with the FIRST rules. |

ha ha. time zone chages i havent adjusted to hawaii time again. im still on california time for waking up and hawaii time for going to sleep. therefore i havent gotten much sleep last night scince we got home. but hey your not a true robotics student unless you have been through sleep deprivation.

I went through all of the main time zones here in the states in about 9 weeks. I adjusted, I forget how fast, but what I remember is that I always fell asleep at sunset.

.... my two teenage sons start calling off team names as the speedometer goes up while driving down the road. My youngest wants to be able to say "WildStang"! Although, most times I prefer the "Beast" or "Hot"! Maybe someday I'll treat the kids to the "WO-BOT"!

While studying for a Physics mid-term, you have to tell your friend to hit you if you mention Championships again because you keep talking about robots when you should be talking about rolling without slipping, massless pulleys, and frictionless turn tables. Even though you aren't going to championships.

When you see a worm gear pictured in your physics book and notice that you'd better let the mechanical team know--there's no grease on it. When your boss immediately assumes that when you mention you will not be able to work certain days that you are doing something FIRST related. When your teachers have given up on trying to get your late work from you; they take it "whenever they get it". |

....you continue attending championships even though you are sick.
....you cheer during the matches even though you can't talk. ....you are sad that you came back from championships with only one shirt from other teams. ....ChiefDelphi is the only site you want to visit DURING competition. lol ....even though your mom goes to championships with you and you know she doesn't understand 'robot talk', you still talk like she understands you. ....you come back from a competition and 3 days later you are still talking in 'robot code'. ....you make references to real life using terms associated with ther current and past fields and games. ....you understand all of those references. :D Edit: ....you are already planning off-season events. ....2 flashdrives at 1 gig each aren't big enough to hold all your robotics pictures. from one year. ....you think of things to put on CD while doing other things then forget once you finally get on CD. ((more of a CD addiction, really)) lol |
