This isn't really an addiction but more or less a bad habit :-)

...when you decide to force your body to stay up from wednesday to thursday so you don't miss thursdays bus to the regional practice.



...after the nationals you decide that some well earned sleep is in order but decide to stay up late anyway to work on 2005's design.




an hour and a half to go b4 I hit the territory of Riverbank State Park. wooohhhhoooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds way to familiar, but it does suck when you are the one driving.. With Caffeine as my co-pilot, I can do anything!!!

when you actually do a dance that the ominous 1000th post landed on page 67

when you break your finger and still work on the robot..which just happens to end up moving it three times...and you might have to get surgery if you dont quit

when you comment to your mentor "I wanna be an UBERGEEK" and she actually tells you to go join their team....so, any ubergeek wanna trade shirts?

when you find that certain smell in the machine shop the best smell to fall asleep and wake up to..which you promptly do

when you only realize three seasons:
build reason
win season
and
obessive season

...when after winning the regional you kneel down in front of the team your mentoring crying b/c the HS you came from (and still partially part of it) went to took 1st. place 2 times in a row at the same regional

...for the first time this season your team doesn't have a meeting after competition and it throws you completely off balance (Not that you don't need the time to do that homework that you didn't do over the weekend that's do on Monday)

...due to said unbalance you are awake even though you still could be sleeping for another hour and half before work.

...you imagine your homework in your mind but the image is fuzzy as you think about all the things that happened at competition.

...the words "Learning experience" begin to mean so much to you.

...you pray that at Nationals you have less learning experiences and more wins. You say this to someone whose not on your team and they blink at you like your crazy since they don't understand.

...being surrounded by 30 crazy guys in lime green isn't that bad anymore. It's actually sort of normal.

...if it wasn't for the great inventition of internet and email...you'd never talk to half of your friends since you're always at robotics and busy.

...you wish your parents were more computer literate so you could just email them what's going on like the rest of your friends.

...you've memorized atleast one or two of your adult mentors lisence plates numbers just because you've had to follow them places so often because you get lost easily.

...you purposely try and park at your team number when driving to competitions and parking in a parking garage. It comes in handy when trying to remember where you parked.

...crossing bridges becomes fun since you crossed atleast two trying to get home from the philly regional and you only needed to cross one (Did I say I get lost easily?) and then had to call a mentor to unlose you. The sad thing...they actually expected you to. Eep.

...other people from other teams you don't know have quoted you in other forums. You found this to be odd. (Eddie quoted me in the 2004 quotes thread in the general forum...and I just discovered it today. I was frightened.)

...you've memorized the mentors phone number so that you can call them if they forget to wake up to go to the regionals.

... you have said mentors house address memorized in case you need to pick them up and bring them to the regional

...you actually stand outside the school and wait to see if the mentor will be 5 minutes early or late to work.

...you force the mentor to stay in the school so that you can finish putting together robot parts.

...when you go out and buy learning the internet book for dummies for your parents so that you can email them with updates every 1hr describing robot progress. and what not

...when even after graduating HS you still get rides home from your mentors b/c you go up to the school and help them out with robotics and you end up needing that ride home. Not to mention the fact that it still amazes you that they remembered where you live. :-)

¤when you can be consisdered a 'well traveled' person thanx to FIRST. (Toronto, Houston, Pheonix, Orlando, Annapolis....)

...when your physics teacher tells you have to do a project and you look over the sheet he gives you and you immediatly realize you can do something with FIRST using robots from the past few years.

....when Diamond Plate, Aluminum Angles / Tubing, and Machined garbage starts forming a bed in ure mind and you decide to build it for real life so that u have a place to sleep at school after building the robot.

....You start noticing a slow down in replies to this thread.

...when your sitting in chem and you and the 3 other robotics team members suddenly all yell out machina and do a robot dance (unplanned) once the teacher says machine.

...despite the need for good hygiene, you wear your teams uniform for days/weeks at a time.
