Big question: Does Team Budget include bot or does it include all expenses with bot and other things (shirts, pizza, etc.)?

I didn't include shirts, food, all donations...

I think it's not set in concrete and you get to decide what you want to include.

Personally I chose to include all registration fees (including nationals altho we have to win this year to go), $3500 for the robot, all travel expenses (including for nationals).

We included what we wanted, not what we used or even what we had. That's why it says 29000, not 2000.

I haven't updated our #'s for 2004 yearbook page, but I have it prepared for when we have to submit it online.

Are they doing the yearbook like the did last year? (You fill out fields on the TIMS?)

It's not "apply". The judges discover you.

Never leave your pit without a team member. Make sure every team member knows your "story". Be easily familiar with quick hilites about what makes your team special. Be aware of judges, "take care" of being available to them, ask them when they walk by if you can let them know about your team. Ask a veteran team at your regional for tips.

We didn't fill out anything for the yearbook last year, and I don't remember ever seeing anything about a yearbook?

I guess this year we should, but what's the benefit of doing so? (our team won't win any awards)

Does every team get a copy of the thing? or will we never see it again?

You never know what awards you might win.
The judges use the yearbook page to learn about your team.

the yearbook page is a one page summary of your robot and team, with a photo, used by the judges at the event to identify the teams and their machines.

i understand it's purpose and layout, but does it get compiled into an actual yearbook and distributed to all teams at a given regional?

The yearbook page is different than the program book. There will be one master program book with ALL the teams listed and each regional will have their own slim program book listing judges and teams. Both are available at regionals.

I would recommend that you fill out the yearbook page for a number of reasons. It will help the judges. You never know what awards you might be considered for. This is probably the only way that FIRST can gather much of the demographic information and it will help them. Also it forces a team to write a concise blurb about the team, gather statistics and answer some tough questions like what are your goals and strengths? Once written,the information can be used many times. For example, team history can be used on the website, for press releases, for grant proposals. It's like a lot of things on the "business" side of FIRST; do it once the right way and then that stuff can be modified and used again and again, thereby saving time in the future. Hope this helps.

Here's our yearbook page we use to fill out the FIRST yearbook form showing our lengthy answers to the questions, that are then reduced to suit FIRST's form.

A good source for the answer to the yearbook page question on "% of school receiving free/reduced lunch" is found on the "National Center for Education Statistics" site if you can't get from your school office.

Sometimes I'm slow.

I read your response and in the back of my mind thought, "I know what percentage of my team members are on free meals" so thought I'd answered they yearbook question properly.

Been thinking in the back of my mind ever since.

Revisited the yearbook page, realized they want the # of the school, not the team, for that question, and redid my info.

Then realized I'd done percentages incorrectly for diversity questions, and fixed them.

So glad you'd posted that, and I finally "got it".

You're not slow, this is complicated. I used to be in the health research field and "% of students, free lunch" is one of the quickest ways to figure out the "poverty" rate of your school, a statistic that FIRST wants to get a handle on.

Section 2 of the manual includes a link to a form which I can't seem to call up when I paste into my browser address bar:

Your Yearbook Page is a link on your TIMS (team info management system) not in the manual. This in the information that needs to be entered. Maybe I am misinterpreting your question?Ask again if I am. The link you posted didn't work for me.

I've never seen that form, that link doesn't work for me, I searched usfirst.org and didn't find it, you could just print the TIMS Yearbook page to have a hard copy to work from. It also allows you to update and correct the yearbook page up to the due date IMO

As Cheryl has said, I think the most efficient way to do the YB entry is
1. print out form from your TIMS. Then
2. fill out the numbers
3. write short blurbs in Word or whatever to answer each of the questions. Save these answers for the future. You've just defined a lot about your team. Hint:Everyone on your team needs to know these answers. These are like the "headlines" about your team.
4.Edit out all extra words. Then take out even more since you will still have too many. If you have more for one question make sure you have a lot less in another.Save this version too.
5. cut and paste this into form.
6. enter numbers and other stuff.
7. You can then go in and edit on the TIMS up until the due date. Make sure you print out a copy for your files since this info disappears after the due date.
8. As FIRST keeps warning, don't wait until the last minute. It takes longer than you think.

i have a few questions ...

what if some of your team members are in grade 13? do they count as seniors even if they are in their fifth year of high school?

what if one of the team members graduated from high school on january 30th. does she go in as grade 12 or university student .. because she isnt in university and shes not in school either ... but is still considered part of the team ...

does White refer to all students with white skin? or Canadian/American background ?? (would a Russian count as a White student .. or Other Ethnicity?)

Does Asian refer to Indians as well? or would Indians go under Other Ethnicity ??

I would count them as seniors.

The Russian depends on what their ethnicity, this could vary.

Most Indian/Pakistani consider themselves Asian, but why don't you ask to be on the safe side.

Our robot is still under construction - so I'm not sure what to do about the photo requirement... Any ideas?
