Hey guys,

What do you think of our first robot?

Gope 20-02-2003 23:29

For a first year team, this bot looks great!

I'ld be interested to hear some facts about it though. Maybe speed, torque, speed to bins at start, number of possible bins in stacks, 2 or 4 wheel drive, steering system?

Here's a closer view of our lifters...

COOPERcable 20-02-2003 23:35

We've got a 4 to 1 gear ratio (4.5 feet per second I think is our max speed), it takes about 3 seconds to lift the box from the ground to 16 inches (we can do that while driving), I don't know much else... I just come up with ideas (functionality... lol)

Oh, we have room for 8 boxes in our bot.

Gope 20-02-2003 23:38

For you guys to take a stab in the dark like that(as all rookie teams do because they havent yet expierenced the nature of the competition) you have done something amazing. I simply cannot express how impressed I am.

COOPERcable 20-02-2003 23:39

:) Thanks a lot, it was definetly a lot of hard work! I'll pass your note on to the rest of Team 1084!

Sorry, here's that link to see our lifters up close. http://jpw.biz/stclair-robotics/view.php?pic=148

ur bot could very well be the best rookie stacker. u indentified a good strategy by building and internal stacker to protect the stack. A couple questions about the bot.

1) Are those omniwheels on the front?

2) Does that arm in the front right boxes?

Jonbca 21-02-2003 16:19

Our robot can drive about 5.36 feet per second, but once we start taking on boxes, it jumps down to about 4 feet, mostly due to stability reasons. We are a two wheel (drills) drive robot that is using a 4:1 ratio. We can lift 8 boxes, that being the limit due to the van door motor we are using. It's dimensions are 35.75"x29"x59". IT weighted in at about 123 pounds. The steering is a one stick drive system. We can get to the op of the ramp in about 4-6 seconds. The wheels at the front are omni wheels, and that front extension is there to flip the boxes to the proper orientation.

That robot looks very similar to ours. Except that we have a few more added features and moves at least 2 times faster without falling over.

Are you going to take the sticker off of that piece of Lexan?

COOPERcable 21-02-2003 21:43

The sticker is already off, check out our site to see more pics! http://jpw.biz/stclair-robotics/photos.php?page=1
