Locking the clutch
 
Has anybody found a good method of locking this years clutch?

i've got the clutch in drive and it doesnt move out of drive but it does slip a little.

lol! Thats what we did until the JB weld sheared off. I designed a part for our team that fit over the front of the gearbox and provided positive locking between the last planetary ring and the plastic housing. Then, out of paranoia, we used a paper cup to create a shell of JB weld over the whole thing :D . Of course, we were sending the power of both the drill AND the CIM through that gearbox (geared the CIM up to the drill's speed)

try this....take the plastic housing that holds the motor in to transmisson(not the motor mount). unclip it, turn it 180 degrees. then the plastic tabs should lock the selecter into low....it works fine. if you have any questions just write me back and ask

transmission locking
 
We took the transmission apart to lock it into gear. Simple.
Then we decided that we might as well lock the transmissions out by machining parts as we did for the gear. Not simple.
Taking apart the clutch is not reccomended. We almost had aneurisms trying to deal with them. I did finally machine good parts, put them in there, then realized the final problem, getting everything back together. Getting that black clutch cover back on is hard.
Now that I know there is a simple way, I could just scream.
Aucum's razor: The simplest solution is usually the best.

Clutch Lock
 
We have found a wonderfull way to keep the clutch in place and it is simple. WE simply put 3 wireties around the motor in front of the little wite notch to lock it in place, and it will not let it move.

P.S. It is for the drill motors :D

Our team was forced to lock the "shifter" into place after we had a small accident and broke the plastic ring that encases the transmission. We simple drilled 2 small pilot holes in the side of the casing and then screwed two small bolts in behind the shifting parts not allowing them to move. Very simple and still working.

The white shifter is not the clutch.

We used a hose clamp to hold it down. It was slipping all the time, but it works just fine now. It's a refined version of our old ziptie method.

Oh, it wasn't paranoia. There was soo much power in that transmission, it sheared off the tabs that the custom aluminum rings used to attach to the motor transmission.

/me hopes that there's a factor of safety of at least 2 in that gearbox...
