Sorry, this is kinda directed to Senior's

I thought I would make tread about college plans. Since we are past that half way point of our last year. I Kinda wanted to know what plans people where having, maybe you need help and others can give you insite about why they like or dislike a school you might still be pondering over!

Ashes 22-02-2003 14:04

HAHA

Yea thought is might help if I started! Kinda forgot that! I'm planning on goign into University of Dayton. It is about an hour away from where I live. This being Columbus, Ohio. First has got me interested in robots and I'm excited to being taking classes based on MY intrests...and not the BS classes Highschool has you take! lol Hope you get some post form people. Once agian sorry this is kinda narrowed to Seniors...others can kinda look over and reply there advice or thoughts too! I'm just wondering where people are planning on going! Thanks!

Harrison 22-02-2003 14:13

Seniors need some posts for ourselves you know ;)

As for me, I plan on studying business managment at the University of Western Ontario (http://www.uwo.ca). It's in London, Ontario - about 2 hours away from here.

I'm excited :)

D.J. Fluck 22-02-2003 14:53

I'm going to the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (I wouldn't have guessed ;)). I'm going to be an EE major and I can't wait to get out of High School so I can be in a school where most people actually care they are at school and not try to ruin classes because they dont want to be there, or they think its funny to interrupt class for no apparent reason. So right now, I'm filling out my FAFSA and hopefully get some money ;)

Matt Attallah 22-02-2003 18:08

Well, I plan to go to Universal Technical Institute (UTI) and if I do very well in that class, Jaguar will pay my way! If not, I may have to work for Volkswagen...::shutters:: Either way, I'm safe for a job that will pay for my schooling...

I plan to be a Mechanic. :D

MRL180YTL2002 22-02-2003 19:49

I'm amongst the four schools I've applied to that said I'm accepted, I'm planing on going to Northeastern Universoty or Georgia Institute of Technology. Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University and Clemson University said I'm accpeted there too. Not to sure yet...have to fill out those FIRST scholarships first. It basically come down to which school do I pay the least. They're both great schools and I like both NU and Ga Tech!

Clark Gilbert 22-02-2003 22:49

Purdue

I'll be heading off to Purdue late this year. The only school I applied for, the only school I got accepted to. :D

Mimi Brown 23-02-2003 01:54

Schools im accepted at: Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan State, U of Kentucky

Where im going: who knows.

It's gonna go down to the wire, and i guess if i really need help, i could always poll ppl on chiefdelphi...lol. i wonder what my parents would think about that:yikes:

MRL180YTL2002 23-02-2003 10:11

Ingenious solution...maybe I'll do that too. Ha....my parents would throw a fit. Actually I just have to decide between whether I want to go to Atlanta or Boston and which school do I pay the least amount of money!

Da SPAMinatress 23-02-2003 13:32

i work on the no decision route... only applied to one school and got in

applied early decision to University of Florida, found out on Dec. 4th, and didn't even have to tell them I was going to go...

so now i just have to sit back, and spend money

Ashley Weed 23-02-2003 13:55

Well, I was accepted to Penn State, Mansfield, WPI, and Drexel.... so far I have only received money offers from WPI.. and they offered $28,000+ a year!.... but I would rather stay closer to home.... just waiting and seeing. Polling Delphi sounds like an excellent idea to me too, it might make things simpliar. I have also brought into consideration of which team I would be working with while in college. :) Ohh.. yeah, I am majoring in Biomedical Engineering.... and possible minor in Poli Sci... and heading off to Med School afterwards.

DanLevin247 23-02-2003 14:21

I'm going to Western Michigan University,

Major: Mechanical Engineering
Minor: Business

I can't wait!

evulish 23-02-2003 14:52

I got accepted to PSU: Erie...and waiting on replies from RIT and Pitt: Johnstown. (I probably could have gotten accepted to PSU main but it was too big...Erie is nice because it's small(er)...and I can stay there for 4 years or transfer to main after 2) RIT is nice...it's pricey and has an extra year...I dunno. IT'S ALL SO CONFUSING!

Ashes 23-02-2003 15:27

Yea getting ready for college is beru stressful! But I like to think baout hte rewards of getting out of Highschool. I had fun but 'm jsut ready to leave!

I think we all can agree that FIRST is one of the best parts if not the best part of high school and definately the most rewarding.

FAKrogoth 23-02-2003 21:57

Been accepted to Rose-Hulman in Indiana, and the University of Missouri-Rolla. I'm waiting to hear from Harvey Mudd in Claremont, CA.

My college choice comes down to circumstances. If my friend and I are both able to go to RHIT, we will. If not, HMC is my first choice. But, of course, it depends on what kind of financial aid I get. I'm very happy that I don't have to go in-state. Nevada sucks for education.

Oh, yeah, and I plan to double major in EE and physics.

Rob Colatutto 24-02-2003 01:02

already accepted and decided on clarkson. new home on team 229 next year, all the way up in pottsdam.....so cold

FotoPlasma 24-02-2003 01:43

Uh. I have no idea.

How about that?

Jonathan M. 24-02-2003 01:50

I know that this thread is for seniors and I'm but a sophmore, but I already have a good idea of where I want to go... *drum roll* The Art Institute of Atlanta or The Art Institute Of North Carolina. Hopefully through schollarship (which Art Teach says I have a good chance for XD). If Not I'll go to the local Tech College and Transfer to a better Univeristy that's Local (Clemson most likley). But I'm hoping to go To AI of Atlanta.

I'd want to go for illustration, and computer graphics.

Later.

Cipher X 24-02-2003 02:16

I am confused as ever about my college choices lol
ive applied to a few schools , University of Florida, University of Central Florida, GaTech, and Ofcourse MIT. I am most likely gonna wind up goin tgo UF, (Thats where i originally wanted to go) If i do go to UF i am gonna do a double major in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

I change my choices everyday so this is just like the choice for today

I'm having like one of the best Senior years anyone could possibly have. Since I took like all the hard classes the other 3 years I've got 3 periods of TV Production :D How fun is that?! Also I'm going on like a billion trips and get to miss so much school. In March there's the UCF Regional for FIRST... fun as usual! Then in April I'm going to Las Vegas for a week with my TV Production class (core group of us) for the National Association of Broadcasting Convention (NAB) and then the morning I get back from that I turn around and get on another plane to go out to Houston for Nats!! Then in May we're doing a huge Lip Sync production on a Monday and the following weekend is FSPA (Florida Schoolastic Press Association convention thing) that we're putting on in Orlando which is basically ONE HUGE PARTY!!! And then after that we do a video yearbook the week we graduate (big production) and then I'm FIN!!! YEA!!!

As far as colleges go I applied to both FSU and UCF and was accepted to both. Now I'm waiting to find out which Film School I get into to make up my mind of which school I'm going to, but most likely it's going to be UCF. I know, I know, I'm in FIRST and don't want to be an engineer? What's wrong with me? I love FIRST and building stuff and all but FILM is my first love!!

Ok now that I'm done writting my novel you can go back to your lives.

Mimi Brown 24-02-2003 16:51

Trips?

Next weekend: Buckeye regional in Cleveland
Weekend after that: Pittsburgh
Week after that: Panama City(i think) for Spring break!!
At the end of that week im in Virginia for an IEA (horse)show with the Olentangy team
Weekend after that: West Michigan regional
Week after that: Texas baby! (*assuming we get to go* everyone pray for us!!)
Then, at the end of april are the IEA nationals, then may is boring and then im off to the bahamas

n e one else gon on fun trips?

Josh Hambright 24-02-2003 17:17

as of now i am undecided and haven't even applied anywhere...all of the advisors on our team keep telling me "your going to purdue and your going to be an advisor next year" but i dont know i kinda wanna get outa this town.

I might join americorp and do a year of service to my fellow man or something like that...or just work for a year and save some money and goto a technical school of some sort....

To kyle and clark gilbert and anyone else going to purdue: Are you guys planning on trying to be advisors on 461 next year?

Is anyone going to a school where they plan on being a college advisor for a team?

Hey! FiRsT isn't just about Engineering anyway. What about the 3Ds Max award? That has little to do with engineering. Although it can, but it's not like autoCAD in the way of designing. And heck I don't want to be an Engineer either. I'm hoping for a career in Illustration and 3D surface modeling etc. I love to draw and I love computers! Oh yeah and I want to get a degree in programing too. Oh yeah and I like photography...

Okay I am officially rambling on now so I'll end it here.

What kind of question is that? Of course...the schools that I applied to have a team or provide mentors to a team (except for Clemson but I's not planning on going there)! Now if you remeber the "homework" Dean Kamen gave us....(drum rolls)....we are to expand first generate support and teams where there isn't any and spread the message and goals of FIRST. So we do need to do our homework.....although it is optional....but its the BEST HW assignment I've been given!

hey all well i am only a junior but at are school they have us jumping at the oppurnity to start applying from college so i have a pretty good idea wehre i watn to t go i eaither want to go to ucf and double major in enginneering and computer science or i am enlisting int he airforce and i am off to war i have been leading towards choice 2 because i mean after i serve they will pay for my college and i am ready to fight and possibley even die for my country

I'm pretty sure that FIT works with team 386, Voltage if you wanted to be involved with FIRST in college, this would save you the trouble of starting a team there if they already work with one! If you did want to start a team for reasons beyond having one at FIT you can e-mail FIRST and request a sponsorship package to get things started!

Josh Hambright 11-03-2003 22:55

i would never goto purdue but thats just i am not a big fan of the town...
yet i have decided to stay here and attend ivy tech, go figure...

That and the fact i can be an advisor for my team next year!! GO NUTS!

But seriously though there are advantages to being in a school with 40,000 people like getting to meet alot of people and having such a variety of people, and everyone knows that TA's and Grad students do all the real work for profs anyways.

*subliminal messages*WPI*subliminal messages* :D

My first year on team 190 here, and I gotta tell ya.. it rocks. And the school, I love it. I suppose the only thing that I could ask for is more dicersity here (our FIRST team has a higher M/F ratio than the school, go us! -- 4:1 WPI, 3:2 Team 190!).

If you wanna be doing FIRST beyond HS, I have decided that WPI is the place to be, we are always doing something, year-round; we are definitely one of the most active teams in the country, doing over 50 competitions/demos a year. We already have on the agenda about 6-8 off-season competitions this year!

And yep, WPI loves to give out money.. not only in financial aid, but for doing things for the student body (just attend new student orientation and you'll understand what I mean, heheh). And based on what I hear from others, the BioMed option here is very good. One last thing - #9 in the nation for "dorms like palaces."

If you have any questions, at all, about WPI don't hesitate to ask me, I'm more than willing to help.

Someone mentioned FIT! I'm going there, too. Majoring in Aerospace Engineering. But, since I live withing 50 miles of campus (Rockledge, if anyone knows where that is :D ) I can save major bucks (like 8 grand I think) by not living and eating on campus.

As for staying with FIRST, I won't leave team 233 until I leave the state. Being Pink is GREAT!!!

Can't wait, only 7 days till UCF!!!

too many choices!

You are are lucky beyond your wildest dreams...

...They're changing the SAT I's

TRUTH
Ridding analogies (I only got one wrong in that section*moans*)

RUMORS THAT MIGHT HAVE SOME GROUNDS
1) Upping max points to 2400 (3 sections) (writing)

In short they're making the SAT's more subjective and less objective. (guess I can kiss that *hoping* 1600 now 2400 adios)

Now back to where you seniors are going to go after you depart from our wonderful abode of learning otherwise known as high school.

You know, I haven't heard anything about that, but if it turns out to be true, sorry for everyone who sill has to take it. Although, if walesjd (my good buddy and arm operator this year) could get a 1600, then the SATs really need to be made harder. :-P

MIT

Being from boston... ( albeit at school in Rochester... )

MIT does have a team
a quick search on www.usfirst.org
says:
Team 97

I suggest you visit the school if at all possible. The environment in Cambridge and Boston can be a rather large culture shock, especially with boston being such a 'college city'. I could probably name 10 colleges in a 20 minute (drive) radius, but the nightlife downtown is always a blast... and its a safe area of town.

Jupee 30-03-2003 22:23

I've been accepted to Rose Hulman, Smith, Tulane, and PURDUE!!! Yeah, considering I'm 5 mins away, it's very likely that I will be attending Purdue. In fact, I decided yesterday while at Midwest Regional I would be going there :)
I'll be majoring in Chem Engineering (assuming I stick w/ it for four years...) and I am definitely going to be on the team next year. Anyone w/ questions feel free to ask!! Purdue rocks and you won't be disappointed!!!

Fortunately, in 2 months I'll be all done with my SAT's and ACT's.. Hopefully this time next year I'll be packing for RIT- long underwear and all.. ~*Brrrr*~

I applied to RIT and got in, but they didn't offer enough scholarship money to make me be able to actually attend the college. So now I am debating over UNH and if accepted Mcgill University all the way up in Montreal!

If I go to UNH I plan on starting a team and I'm going to need lots of help.
If any of you out there are going there or want to share some advice, I'd love it.
This is only my third year on the team and already I start shuddering thinking that soon I will no longer be part of my loving FIRST family...
"MOMMMMMMY!" hehehe I'm gonna miss you Mommy, but don't worry, I'll visit! :)

I'm going to Grand Valley State University. Thats all I know. I have absolutely no clue what I'm going to major in. Sometimes I enjoy english, sometimes math, sometimes physics, sometimes anything else....I really have absolutely no idea.

I didn't get into Mcgill... doesn't really surprise me either
So I'm going to UNH, woo woo....
At least I can visit my mom and Trisha...
Although, Trisha lives near the beach... nice!

This is definately not a rumor. It was a cover story in USNews a few months back... it's scheduled for March of 2005. The main changes is now there's going to be a writing section (you should have been wondering why they've had a writing section on the PSATs for a few years now, but not on the regular SATs). Apparently, for this section, you'll now have to write an essay. Talk about a pain in the.... A 2-second search on the collegeboard website came up with this link: http://www.collegeboard.com/about/newsat/satfaqs.html

Check it out, it has all the info.

I'm heading to Michigan State University next fall. I was accepted into the James Madison College program up there (Public Affairs/Politics). I'm thinking of majoring in International Relations.
I'm one of the few kids on my team who isn't doing computers or mech. engineering (and one of two going to MSU...the rest are going to U-M Ann Arbor).
