Aren't you tired of seeing this woman?

Isn't everyone else sick of looking at this woman as you read the Yahoo group messages?

What is this woman doing? Why do we need a camera that "fits anywhere" in order to see her?

What is being implied here?

I am not a prude, nor am I offended easily, yet I think it is kind of rude to have advertisements intended to bring out the voyer in all of us flashed at me as I try to keep up with the rules of FIRST.

Am I off base here?

Joe J.

About that woman...

I got in some trouble once at work because my boss thought it was some kind of dirty material, as it would show up everytime I would send an email with my yahoo account.

I am with you on the this. I wish FIRST just asked Chiefdelphi for a forum instead of depending on yahoo for one. Perhaps they can get their webmaster to make one on their usfirst.org site.?

I don't think you're off base Joe. I feel the same way.

I am with you 300%, x10 is evil and must be terminated.

Terminate with extreme prejudice.

Internet advertising has become so cheap. It actually shows.

That would be tres cool, Anton. Good idea.

I have to agree - the worst part about x10 is they are constantly promoting spying. Most of their ads portray women - so you can infer they suggest to use their products to spy on women. They have done a great ad campaign blitz through Yahoo and many others but I am disgusted at their suggestive ads.

Dan180 16-01-2002 17:01

Theres like 8 different X-10 ads. They come up all over the place and it gets really annoying when every other page has an x-10 ad.

Anton Abaya 16-01-2002 17:13

I have a confession.

I own an x10 camera :).

-anton

ps. the woman doesn't come with it.

pps. yes, i hope FIRST asks ChiefD for a section for themselves instead of that spokesperson who likes spy cams.

Joe Johnson 16-01-2002 17:16

It's the AD not the PRODUCT...

I have no objection to the product whatsoever. I do object to the ad.

I belong to another group that uses Yahoo as the server. There is also alot of complaining about the adds. Sometime you can go directly to the message, another the message shares the screen with the add, and still another you have to go to the add then the message. It's a pain in the Glutimus Maximus
The probelm is we can't do a thing about it.

*tink, tink* $.02 hitting computer screen

Yeah, it is annoying.

How long doe it take for FIRST to reply to questions? It has been three days since I posted, but have received no reply.

BSMFIRST 16-01-2002 18:15

Ahhh...but you can defeat the X10 ads

Click here and you won't see X-10 ads for the next 30 days...not kidding

That link is actually through the X-10 webpage, it uses a cookie to defeat the ads. I'm not sure if you can keep renewing it, but here are some other ways around it thanks to your good friends at the BattleBots forum:

Steve Judd's advice:
"PopupStopper, from www.panicware.com works very well also. Blocks pretty much all annoying popups. Free!"

Andrew Lindsey's advice:

"I use the Proximatron.
http://proxomitron.org/
Not only does it block ALL pop-up ads, but you can set it to filter out web banners, as well as annoying browser features like imbedded music, blinking text, and animated background graphics."

Both of these other solutions have unintended consequences which I am not completely clear about.

Enjoy,
Dan

100%

I wouldn't have an objection if an X-10 camera that would have a US FIRST robot in it that has one of its camera on it. That would be cool if they included that on the kit, and it was required to put it on. Replace that with the light, and have the big screen see the front view of the robots. Anyways, I do agree with Joe Johnson. FIRST needs to build its own forward e-mailing system or forums. For professional look and to get rid of the ads. I sure that Chiefdelphi was the first on the list, but didn't want to bias on other teams. When I think of x-10 camera and everyone else immediately thinks of it as a porno spycam. I mean look at the ads, they say its for security, YEAH RIGHT. I mean, It is a forwarding system, they already have one in place with there FRC e-mails that main contacts get. Just expand that, I mean how hard is that, if you already got the template.

Ads...ads...ads

A credit to capitalism. The ads actually were implemented when I was surfing through back posts in Yahoo groups. I suddenly pop up with an ad displaying this woman. Needless to say, I was stunned and slightly offended when this woman popped up, and continues to pop up.

Joe... If you look back to a few weeks ago I posted that same question to this Board and asked if it was possible to by-pass "YAHPHOOEY". I had a lot of problems with them and lost several hard drives??? (UNKNOWN WHY) when I tried to load them last year.
I was alone in my request to have the Board post the link, I also asked if anyone else was having problems with Yahoo and was told in one reply that I was beyond help, so why is everyone upset???
Possibly now would be a good time to review this possibility. By the way Joe I agree, the add is tacky and sugestive.
My original post is below.

Brandon. I noticed that F.I.R.S.T. has a new process for asking questions and answers.
We are being told to link to Yahoo.com/group/blah/blah/blah. I was wondering if you could get a direct link through Chief Delphi to this site. Im asking because I have a terrible time with Yahoo and am constantly crashing my computer because of it. Last year when my son loaded Yahoo it crashed the system big time. I had to have the hard drives re-instaled.
We had no problems untill my son again re-instaled Yahoo and the whole system again crashed. For some reason Yahoo dont like us or my putter system dont like Yahoo. Can you think of some thing to help here as I cant afford another crash or another putter.
Has any one else had problems with Yahoo on their systems???
Thank you
Nick237
