Easy way to Bypass Yahoo

If you want to get around the Yahoo Groups interface for FRCTech2002 and just have everything sent to your email(what I am doing personally), do the following:

1. Send an e-mail to FRCTech2002-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. This will subscribe you to the mailing list.

2. Set up a filter within your mail program(Outlook Express 5+ and Outlook 97+ support it, not sure about any others,) to move any messages with the text "[FRCTech2002]" in the subject into their own folder.

3. Done! You don't have to visit the Yahoo site(and deal with the ads) any longer, and you even have a record of the Q&A on your computer to let you quickly find a particular message without having to even get online.

your right Joe,

that advertisement is really anoying...in fact all pop-up ads are anoying...

does anyone know of somewhere where i can download a pop-up killer that works?

David Kelly 16-01-2002 21:31

the only thing i don't like about the mailing list is all the emails. i opened up my email and i had 112 emails from the yahoo forum. good thing i have a cable modem...

David - to stop all the email - check your preferences. Check the box for digest. This option gives usually only one email a day with about twenty five posts. Except today the group sent three digest with about 25 post in each digest. This option sure makes it easier to handle and cuts down on the emails.

ah... ok thanks:D

OptOut websites

There are couple of good websites you can use to optout of online ads. Here are a few:

http://technoerotica.net/mylog/optouts.html
http://opt-out.cdt.org/
http://www.networkadvertising.org/

All of these provide links to optout of online ads, profiling, etc.

my solution

[ which i read on /. ]

most ads, including banners and popups, come from dedicated servers, like ads.x10.com, or us.a1.yimg.com

so in my hosts file, i have those domains pointing to 127.0.0.1 (localhost). and voila, no more ads. i got my list of servers (300+) from somewhere online, if i find it i'll post here again. if you want to use mine, email me and i'll send it to you.

the hosts file is /etc/hosts under linux, and some other *nices, i dont know where it is on windows or mac boxes...

The Secran Savers did a whole big thing a while ago about x10 and how to prevent it. They also said that x10 was the most visited site because of all those ads...

Oh, well, if you want to get a spy cam, at least you know where to get one  ....

Questions w/o AAnswers

Joe and All,

My biggest frustration with the new format is that the questions are posted without the answers. It is a lot of work identifying which questions have been printed out and distributed to the team. Oh well.

I agree, since its a moderated forum, I would prefer to only see the answered questions sent out to the 1000+ people that are signed up for the list.

I didn't check it for a couple of days and fell behind until i realized that most of the posts were questions that have already been asked and ergo, unanswered.

Zeinin 17-01-2002 12:05

im sitting here at work, browseing the lightwave professional mailing list, and i get that AD up every third post... arrrgh...

CLICK THIS LINK

X10 realizes people hate their ads so they have a deal where you won't get popup ads for 30 days, just click the above link.

Put it to good use.

Could we put it on our Robot, to have some tape for a possible team video?

Is that legal?

Assuming by 'it' you mean one of these little x10 cams....
psst...hey Dindau - I'm not sure who you really are, but I'm on 365 too - and we already have a cam on Li'l MOE, and I think we're planning on adding it to this season's bot too ;)
