lot of eyecandy:yikes:

but little content. You need a lot more!
i Would recommend a seprate Non flash page

Well done. The only thing that bothered me was the horizontal scrolling because of your image on your index page. Maybe make it a little smaller to compensate for different resolutions? Other than that, it's design was crafted and integrated with the content very well. Was there a team on your website or was this just you?

There's a screen resolution detection script on the internet. It might come in use for your site.

It's a little too cluttered and clunky for my liking. Then again, how someone views interactive design, like any other art form, is subjective. Practically, though.. the playback was poor on my PowerBook using Safari. The site lacks a consistent interface and is unattractive, to say the least.

Spend time considering your audience and study the key aspects of effective design. Realize that you don't need to fill up empty space with senseless images (white space is good!)

Team 75's site is so clean and professional. Is this an example of student work or did a sponsor assist in making this site? The flash is very clean and attractive, with attention to many good design elements (as you mentioned). It is also easy to navigate.

i agree .. both this team's and 75's sites are very nice...

we very rarely used flash on our site [ www.firstubergeeks.com ] as to avoid compatibility problems.

it even looks good in links/lynx ;)

that might be something to aim for with a non-flash version of your sites

Nope... Entire site was designed, programmed, and hosted by the student web site team (myself and JP Ren). IT Media is a company of mine, btw.

Thanks :)

Team 75:
Did the website team have a mentor or art director who helped them produce the concept, layout, and color scheme for the site? Is there a person with a degree in design concepts providing assistance of any kind?

Good luck to all

that looks cool....flash...ahhh:D

gliebowitz 25-02-2003 17:49

I was in charge of design and programming (I am in 9th grade at Hillsborough High School) and JP took care of the content planning and overall strategy. Some of the other sites I've done are at http://www.itmediaco.com.

Not exactly. The site was student designed and operated with hardly any involvement from our engineering mentors (which explains why we have not yet transfered our domain to the official URL: www.roboraiders.com) Anyway, we had to do a bunch of tweaks before our mentor/advisor approved our design

As far as the color scheme goes, Greg and I tried to give our old site a major facelift. Our old site used red as a dominant theme because there was red in our original logo. Luckily, grey seem to have worked with the red in our logo to produce something better than before. Oh yes, most of you wouldn't believe that we only used a library of 15 or so images (total) from previous years to make the website, so our choice in which image to use was basically nil. What you see on the homepage (the background) is actually from an inventor model submitted for the Autodesk Inventor award from 1-2 years back.

Glad you like the site. Now I'll have to spiff up the "design showcase."

And give greg all the credit for his arts & crafts :p

RobDeCotiis 25-02-2003 22:20

i don't wanna know how long that took.. i've been using flash for years and.. hahaha thank the lord i didnt make that.

Original Poster: Nice eye candy, but its kind of big/slow loading, even on cable. Also, the font is kind of hard to read.

To gliebowitz: I like the site.. If you are only in 9th grade, I can't even imagine what you'll be doing in college and beyond.

Holy crap, you guys got ATI as a sponsor? What did they give you?
