Lately, the Who Am I image discuss threads have involved four people. You know who they are. The fact that you even said that really really makes me mad...you have no idea who we are and Ash I agree with you...you probably didn't even read everything that was going on in the board anyways...not very many people were reading them and we weren't even causing any problems..and ashleigh is right...its easier that way to get more people involved..its like a chat room...so I'm sorry for being a girl on FIRST as well...all this is just too much drama! its not a big deal...they shouldn't have allowed us to be able to post in the first place if people were going to get mad...so for these "four people who know who they are" we were just using the sources that were given to us...thank you.

you're more than welcome to use the übergeeks boards!

www.firstubergeeks.com/forum

it's not like anyone posts on there anyhow haha...you'd pretty much have it all to yourselves :D

btw, i have to agree. even though it was PRIMARILY four people talking, it was definitely an attempt to get more people involved. it's not as if they were discussing an inside joke they had with a girl that sat next to them in 3rd grade. they left many questions open to reply such as "what kind of car do you have?". if people chose not to post, that's their problem.

I think the image discussion on Who Am I links is good.. to an extent.

Could we possibly get a new forum that Who Am I go into? Where posts act just like chit-chat? (doesn't show up in post count nor portal)

The most annoying part of the rampant replies is the portal, a lot of good discussions get kicked off the list because of too many Who Am I's.

As to the ubergeek guy's "open-end" questions that were posted, those kind of things have been brought up in the past and shopuld be brought up in the chit-chat forum.

Harrison 23-02-2003 20:31

OH NO! HELP! SAVE US!

People are talking to each other on Delphi!!! On No! Thats awful! STOP IT! STOP IT NOW!!!

......I really don't know where to start about this.

Unless I am seriously mistaken, the point of the CD forums is for people involved in FIRST Robotics to converse with each other. What must they converse about? Robotics, Rules, "pick-up lines", Regionals, Cars, Sports, Hockey, "confidentials", BUT, aparently we are not allowed to talk to each other about such things as our own cars, our future school plans, what regionals we're competeing at (basically the things that were happening in the Image Discuss threads).

FIRST is not only about robots. It is about people. Us. High school students. So, why can we not use it as such, and talk to each other?

Does it hurt ANYONE if people use Delphi to talk to each other (it is a DISCUSSION BOARD afterall)?

No, of course it doesn't.

Are the things being talked about rude, or off colour?

Again, No.

The things that are happening in the discussions are perfectly legitimate discussions between people (several people - not just 2 talking back and forth) who are involved in FIRST.

That being said, how can closing the Image Discussions be justified?

So.. the discussion links have been removed from the Who-Am-I gallery.

Since some of you apparently skipped right over this, I'm quoting it here for you to read again. Brandon, one of the only people who has any right to say what CD's purpose is, has already said that the discussions didn't belong here.

Time for a lock on this thread too?

Ashes 23-02-2003 20:41

Yea but this area is for suggestions and comments on actions that have taken place...we are just voiceing why we used those threads and find it wrong to jsut close them. It hink the idea of moving them is a great one....Yes Chit-Chat can be used for osme of the topics...but in the "Who am I" the topic kept changing and you didnet have to start a WHOLE NEW thread

Well, for one, 47 changed their hosting plan to allow more bandwidth usage on a faster server. The Chief Delphi boards are provided, as a service, to the community. The hosting isn't free, I wouldn't be surprised at it costing $90/month for the amount of bandwidth they go through.

They set very simple rules, very loose rules, for the conduct expected by people who use the service. If you don't remember them, take a look.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 'Chit-Chat' forum takes up about 90% of the bandwidth used, but 47 agreed to that when they formed it.

Harrison, Biggs, Ashes, and anyone else who seems offended by the reaction, relax. It's not a personal attack against you folks, just a general *arg* at what has been going on.

Just as the chit-chat got too popular and was removed from the 'portal' links, I think the Who Am I discussions are getting to popular. They should still be availible to those who wish to make effort to read them, but shouldn't have to gleem at people who don't want to

If you don't want/refuse to acknowledge Comments/Suggestions....then WHY is the section of the boards here?

We are commenting on a change made to the CD forums. Whether or not our comments end up having an effect is up to Mr. Martus.

I read each one of them. . . as I used to read every thread on these boards.

That was my commitment to FIRST and to being as much of a help as I could be. That's not possible anymore. The volume of posting is enormous, though it seems as if the amount of posting that's of interest to an entire community is dwindling.

Conversations between limited people of a personal, colloquial nature aren't of interest to the community, in my mind. Others may disagree about that, and that's great. Life would be boring if everyone took my word as law.

I don't think any of us want to sever attempts to make friends, really. But, please, be mindful that - while the four of you may have been having a rollicking old time getting to know one another - the rest of us have to bear witness to it.

There's a time and place for everything. CD is great for discussion about FIRST, networking, and initial contact. Once you've met someone you're interested in knowing better, it's not terribly more difficult to pursue those interests in a venue that's more appropriate and less public.

Biggs717 23-02-2003 20:45

shes right...we aren't trying to make anyone mad...we are trying to get our side out... I mean its like people are putting the blame on us for something that we didn't know was wrong...so if you want to move it thats fine...it is chit chat anyways isn't it?

Biggs717 23-02-2003 20:49

I'd just like to point out there were more than just four of us posting...we were just in the majority...and it wasn't all that public and if you don't like what was being said they you didn't have to read it...it wasn't bad... I just want to know why there was ever a link to talk about pictures in the first place...because there was one...we used it and are now being attacked for it..its not fair

jzampier 23-02-2003 20:51

FYI

For the uninitiated: Tigerbolt refers to a chat room which was run by team 73 for a while.. its kinda evolved since then... linkage here

You might not be attacking us (and I beleive you when you say you're not) but others are.

As for network usage, granted, posting does use bandwidth. But, as you said the chit-chat probably uses 90%. But, Chit-Chat is still there.

If the CD forums were ONLY about robotics, then forums such as the chit-chat would not exist.

Gadget470 23-02-2003 20:57

I think you missed my points.

I'm not attacking, frankly, I ignore Who Am I discussions because I generally don't care.

Yes I did say chit chat uses probably 90%. I also said that it's not in the portal because it's too popular. I think Who Am I discussions should stay around, but be hidden from the portal.
