THis is a cool robot- is that lexan or plexiglass I see?
Also, I notice many swiss cheese speed holes. Is it typical for teams to add those? |
kinda looks like the wholes were added for looks, it doesn't look like they would have weight problems, hehe Pink :-) nice choice of color
:-P looks like a strong reliable bot you go there |
normally the holes are typical, not for the speed, but to get within the weight requirement
|
Speed Holes is a term from an episode of The Simpsons. Homer was dressed as Krusty the Klown at a car dealership. The Springfield Mafia tryed to kill Krusty (Homer) via bullets. All shots missed and hit the hood of the car Homer was thinking about buying.
"What are these holes?" "Those are .. speed holes .. they make the car go faster" Good ol' used car salesmen techniques. Well, Homer didn't get the car, but he did take a pick-axe to his to put in "Speed Holes" all the while bragging to the godly witted Flanders. Yeah, I need sleep. |
*does the happy dance* pink! We were the pink and black team but this year we didn't get to keep those colors (sponsors chose the colors and the guys on the team didn't want to be forced to wear pink again)
|
Good to see your new robot. Good luck to you guys this year. I'll try to think pink as much as possible.
And I think the term "speed holes" has been around for much longer than the Simpsons. I remember seeing an old indy car (like really old) in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum that had tons of holes drilled in it to make it faster, not because of aerodynamics (which would actually have the opposite effect, I think) but for weight. The lighter the car, the less weight the engine has to accelerate, hence, "speed holes". |
my exact quote when i looked at this picture
"WOW! THats a bright pink robot" the teacher standing behind me was like 'woah, yes it is...is this for that robotics competition thingy?' |
Thanks
Hey, thanks everybody... And let me tell you, the pics don't do it justice. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys on the field (I'm the base driver this year).

Pink
I like it. Looks solid and in the weight range after the diet For Katy (Don't you have classes today?) |
Sorry...
I sorta didn't answer your post Jeff. That would be lexan on top. of the color "Smoke", I believe.
Also, we weigh in at about 126 pounds... we have that exrta .1 inches around the belt :D Quote:

PINK!
... I would have loved to do our robot in pink, but well.. the sponsors said no... and well.. half the team. |
Cool bot... but why pink?
|
Great Bot! I like the pink... I'm starting to hear an echo...
Is it just me or does the title of the pic say "arms out" when it seems the arms are in? Oh well, I like the bot and wish you guys good luck. |
OK

Hey there all, yeah, I posted the pics with the wrong titles first, but I fixed it now, lol. Anyway, we design the holes into our robot as we build it to allow for everything we want to do, no last min swiss cheezing to do, and we always end up right near the weight limit. Glad you all like the pink, and I agree with ash, the pics really dont do it justice.

Hehe
Yeah PBJ, don't feel bad about the pics, its "expected" of you.

(Stokely: I left that post at 02-25-2003 09:27 PM according to the little thing next to where I posted by my computer...)
Is that flat space in the middle just random or do you make stacks on it to place down later? |
Its...

I really dig the color...
|
Can we request more picture of the pretty barbi bot?
#233 Gives a new meaning to the song "Pretty in Pink" |
Hmm, more pics ehh? Yeah, I can dig up some more for ya, such a beautiful bot deserved the full photo shoot (though I must say if everyone in the world thought she was ugly, it wouldn't matter, after that much time together, I'd know she was beautiful). As for being the barbie bot, she is pink, definately barbie pink, and to top it off what you can't see well in the pics is that there's a prismatic additive which was supposed to give a bit of a color change effect, but in the end looks like glitter. So there you have it, barbie pink with glitter :)

Haha
Hey, look at this, the last 3 posts have been from members of the pink team. POST SLUTTING!!! Anyway, I hope all the ladies can tell from walesjd's post that he is more "interested" in the robot than all you fine gals...
Haha... -Ash |
Thanks Chris for that vote of confidence, but I think considering your position you don't want to start mud slinging :)
