Team 639 Written Test
1 Attachment(s)
Our team administered a written test for our driver/controller/human player candidates. It's hard but you can have all the time you want (just stop when you have just no clue at all). I trust upon the honor system you won't look up the answers.
Email answers to me at monsieurcoffee@yahoo.com in .doc format or pdf Include your chiefdelphi sn. I'll post up your scores afterwards so don't send it if you don't want people to see it... the average team score here though was around the top 70s. The test has been edited to include just the test (no intro), and 3 questions related to our team has been taken out. |
If you haven't taken the test, I'd trust you won't read any following posts below...
If you have taken it and sent it to me, post any comments or any questions. And btw, the test was written by 'soezgg'. |
.. you.. EDITED it?? The first and last pages were my favorites!! LOL.
Heeey.. didn't I get like a 67% or something on the test.. making me just BARELY pass it?? :DDD |
What are the japanese characters at the top of the page for?
|
I guess page numbers... soezgg is a fan of Jap stuff.
Yeah, that's approx your score Kristen. I got a 91.6 cause I left one blank (dumb stupid mistake) and also because I somehow did 14-4 and got 8... yeah, so double jeopardy played me and cost me 5 points from that subtraction error. Nonetheless, the 2 drivers/2 controllers on our team also got the top 4 scores... guess the test counted for something. |
i took the test (to avoide doing my research paper) what did i get? i sent you the results in a pm, i missed your little note about the email
|
Man, that was all too easy... If I don't get a 100 then there's something wrong with you guys.
In fact, question 5 has some errors in it. Some of the options are wrong. |
a lot of it was worded really weirdly. to many negatives in some

I just noticed there's been 61 dls of the test so far... please be patient as I find the time to grade the ones that get submitted. |
I hope all those questions aren't based upon answers out of the manual...
Virtually 90% of that test has changed at some point or another through FRC Forum rulings or Team Updates. That test is tedious... there's just too much to explain. Eventually you just give up... |
I thought that test was hilarious.

I sent my test in.
Hopefully, I get above a 50% - otherwise, I'd better start actually reading the team updates. :D |
crap man i am happy our team didn't give me a test like that...
during matches i'm not thinking that much about score i just do my driving... thats the coaches job to keep me updated on that... if i had to think about score i wouldn't drive as well... well i do think about score but its not my main concern. |
Actually- I didn't look at your test but everyone interested in traveling with the team and receiving funding on Team 190 must take and pass both a rules and technical test (this is students and college mentors).
The rules test is located here: http://users.wpi.edu/~colleen/FIRST/rulestest.html the password is controller On the rules test, you must get 100% in order to be considered passing. You can, however, take the test as many times as necessary to pass. We feel this encourages knowledge of all the rules we deem important, not just say 70% of them. Plus, they must retake the entire test every time, so it minimizes the chance that they didn't just guess the correct answer. Oh yeah, they are not told what questions they got wrong and they must take it in the presence of of certain team members (to ensure they are not looking at the rules while taking it) The technical test is oral and is more of a pass/fail thing. There are general questions (What is the difference between a fuse and a circuit breaker and point them out on the robot) and others are specific to that year's robot (What is INS, how does it work, and why is it beneficial) If you take the rules test, it will automatically send the answers to me, and I can let you know how well you did. |
Team 343 is Tested
Everyone who travels with the Metal In Motion Team (343) must pass a similar written test with 100% accuracy! Fortunately, many are allowed to take the test several times, but if you don't know the material by the second or third time, then going to a regional or the National would be a waste of time. If you don't know the game, then how can you enjoy it?
I wish everyone a very successful season and look forward to seeing your team in action. Good luck everyone. |
i am really glad i did not have to take a test like that....

I can't believe you people are bothering with this. That test hurt my head when I took it, not because the test was hard-- the questions were. He intentionally used negatives and changed other wording to be as annoying as possible.

Ack someone beat me! Good job, though. It's a tough test. The questions get VERY specific and nit picky, though it helps show who really knows the rules and who just knows some of the rules.

Not to mention some of his answers are wrong and have been changed by FRC Rulings/Team Updates. A lot of the things are ambiguous too... I don't feel like wasting my time right now by looking it all up... |
I have had a lot of responses to the T190 test, it's also interesting to see what some people write.
We have found that tests like this do not discourage any of the team members, but to the contrary, it intrigues them more to get involved in both understanding the game and our robot. And the more they realize how particular many of the rules are, they realize how crucial it is to understand the specifics when making decisions about game play and the robot on and off the field. The thought of taking the test sometimes deters those who just want to show up for driver tryouts but it has yet to happen that someone has taken the test and does not persist and learn the rules until they pass because they want to do well. I'll work on writing up a comprehensive answer key tonight. If you'd like a copy for your team, PM me and I will send them your way when they are complete. |
