Who are the Favorites at the Manchester Regional?

Who do you believe are the favorites of the Manchester Regional? Many robots have pictures of the web up. Voice your opinions of who you believe are favorites and why!

JVN 27-02-2003 13:41

Based on the UTC Scrimage Video,
I think the Techno-Ticks (236) will seed in the top 4.

Jeff Rodriguez 27-02-2003 14:05

the ticks looked good, gompei, CHAOS always make a competative robot (and they have home feild advantage) aztechs

Chris 27-02-2003 15:28

I think a BAE team will take it,

151 Made Huge strides last year.
166 Is in their second year of Sponsership
131 Is always Competitive
138 Has always been the quite great NH team
501 Is also always good

many good teams

So many good teams going to this regional. It would be a big gamble to name certain teams that you think will prevail. So many people in these forums talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Ever hear the term " any given sunday" well we aren't playing football, but I think it pertains to what we are all doing here. Good luck to all teams this year.

Jay5780 27-02-2003 22:46

I agree with jestin, there are many many top-notch teams attending Machester and to try to even single any of them out as favorites is impossible for me.

And in regards to not playing football... You're right this year, but next year with the "Design a game" who knows maybe we may get to play football.

Ricksta-

i think the point of this thread was to point out other teams that you thought would do well. We all know about 121, and the more you keep pushing your team, the more some people begin to dislike them. Just let your robot do the talking, it looks like you guys will be fairly competitive this year.

Thanks

Tom

Other than yourself, who do you think will do well Ricksta?

Cuz... that is what this thread is about... shameless self promotion is in the "Robot Showcase"

I know you're a scout... so who have you seen (besides yourself) that impresses you?

157#1Driver 27-02-2003 23:20

I have to say too that there are a lot of teams with very good reps. going.

i really want to see 151, 131, 95, 88. i mean really.

from utc video looked as though 190 was havin a lil trouble. but i love strafing robots. they will compete well.

229 is lookin good too. modular is the way to go this year. being versitale allows all sorts of strategy.

just saw the 141 pics, lookin good too.

in terms of impressing, i cant say anything yet. I havent seen these bots work yet. beleive me i want to be impressed.

SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT MANCHESTER TEAMS!

sorry for shameless plug, i just have confidence in our bot this year.

Clanat 27-02-2003 23:56

Where could I get a utc video?

Todd Derbyshire 28-02-2003 11:17

Its on Rage's site

Andy Grady 28-02-2003 13:06

Manchvegas!

Well, this regional is gonna be a nasty one, thats for sure. I have already dubbed it THE Regional to be at this year. As for my favorites, based on what I have seen so far, and what I know of teams, here goes...

Based on Robots I have Seen...

236: The Technoticks look absolutely nasty this year. They have breakneck speed, and were probably the only team at UTC who I saw that could stack fast enough to be effective.

176: Aces High will do well with their drive system alone! Not to mention the always useful in many different ways, articulating arm. Aces was a powerhouse on top of the ramp, with the only team able to budge them at all (and I don't think they really even got them off the top) being RAGE.

190: I think Gompei will be a very good contender at this regional. I like the drive system they have, and the strategies I have seen them use.

Based on Robots I have not seen...

42: Yes I realize this is my old team, but I also realize that if PARTS puts any semblance of the robot they had out on the field last year they are going to do extremely well. They could have taken that robot, shipped it on day one, and probably would do well!

88: I put TJ on the list for one reason...River Rage. How they defeated 121 in the finals is alot of what I am expecting out of this competition this year. If they have a strong drive, which i know they will, they will be a contender.

319: I have no basis for making this pick other than the fact that I really want to see these guys do well! I doubt many people remember Alton's rookie "Flying Pig" back in 1996, but ever since that robot, I have been a big fan of these guys!

Of course...anyone can take the competition this year, its nearly impossible to predict the outcome. And also I think there are a few teams in there who will suprise many, including myself. Either way, it will be a great competition.

Cya On Thursday!

I've been having trouble pinning down exactly who will do well based on UTC, since teams have had an additional 5 days to fix problems since then. If any of the teams at UTC took equal advantage of the extra 5 days, there may be many surprises at Manchester.

MisterX 28-02-2003 18:22

Yo dog, I just gotta give my props to my home boys to the WESTSIDE!!!!!! 236 TechnoTICKS! Your robot looks blinging and made for speed! NE way that is the 4-0-1 from my crib!

For me The (people) are what matter to me the most .

and Doing this for 8 years now i've made some great frineds over the years . And a few have given me some great advice ..

So i when say that when i like team 88 or 190 .. its the people that i'm looking forward to see. ( A robot is just a reson for us to get reaquainted)

Any one else feel the same way?

see you all soon.. D@VE

Mike Norton 28-02-2003 21:40

After watching team 121 at Quincy I think they have a great chance if they don't try to stack. They have a powerful robot

If they put on the stacker they will have a hard time doing well.

I like team 176 they have a drive train that is very strong.

The team I see not doing well is team 190 They might have a nice drive train but is very hard to drive. They tried this before and did not do that well. If they go to a lot of regionals then I would say watch out for them but for the first regional they will have a lot of problems.

Beware of team 157 they beat you with their drivers. They win because of how well their drivers drive.

Then you have Buzz team 175. I have not seen their robot but you know they will be there because of who they are. If they are not in the top 8 they will be picked by someone.

I like NH regional because it brings FIRST back to their roots. Plus there is a lot of history up there.

Good luck to everybody up there and we will have a chance to see what works and what does't

I agree, our stacker didn't perform up to par at Quincy but we put a lot of work into it during those last days and it is pretty amazing now.. You will see that stacker on a lot.

As for me-

I'm looking forward to seeing MIT (97), Quincy (69), and WPI (190).

good luck to everyone

I'm not going to start a holy war here, but the only reason for that incident happening is because our radio was cutting out and our wheels were extremely bald due to the MD competition we competed in it not even a week before that.

88 is a KOH bot. They have stated it many times, but not shown any pictures of it. Out on a wild guess I am probably going think it look like their 2002 robot but with longer arms on the sides.

Anyways I like what I'm seeing already to the people who have posted, and hoping to see everyone in Manchester

Y'all have an issue with letting the past lay fallow. If you aren't going to start a holy war, keep quiet.

Focus on the new.

Todd Derbyshire 01-03-2003 00:16

Kyle you couldn't be so further from the truth in all regards. In no shape and form did we come out and say that we are KOH. And that fact that I was standing right there at RiverRage five feet away from your robot looking at its controls you had power the whole time. You don't want to start a war than don't come on threads starting problems. As for everyone else at this point as far as I know we had two robots going during the season and we might very well still have two. The robots were of different designs and I'm not sure which one we went with. I guess I get to find out like everyone else at Manchester its going to be like christmas morning.

He may have started it, but you had the chance to drop it... and DIDN'T!

88 and 121... just don't start this again... not here... not now.

No, but you hinted it many times

http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...285#post130285

Hey I was just stating a fact about my team during River Rage. I really don't know why you get so mad over it. You want to dish it out, that is your own problem. Its just making yourself look bad by repeating the comment in a negative way. That is all I will say about it, and I think everyone else should not bring it up in the thread again. Period.

Greg Perkins 01-03-2003 07:47

hey,
wow,

someone actually said 151...wow...

im suprised cause we usually dont get a mention on here, but i think we will have a competetive bot...we, er...need to write code for it but hey, thats kids stuff...(looks around nervously)...
pics soon to come

o yea,
now you guys wont have to go and see 71 for a walker, cause NH has a walker now!

Bad

Actually CHAOS has has a Walker for many years now, just not in the form you are thinking of. And yes Walker will be back this year and actually on the field for 10 seconds for everyone to see.

Team238-aholic 01-03-2003 10:09

all i have to say is:

i hate posts like this when people pick their favorites way before the competition. It just means you already have a biasis of the teams and maybe won't even accept teams that just might suprise you. I'm not saying this on behalf of my team, but just in general. I bet some teams that perform awesome are going to get overlooked just because a few people already have their favorites.

So maybe people should wait till thursday night beform forming an opinion. Maybe last year a team did awesome with that game, but this year another team maybe better with this game plan....

alright....thats my 2 cents....i don't care if no one likes it

Andy Grady 01-03-2003 11:07

Simple Facts

I see these posts as just a way to spark people to talk. You are right, no one can actually make a good guess on who is gonna be good til thursday, but just like in all competitions, its fun to speculate. Frankly, it doesn't matter what I or anyone else on this board says, in my eyes, if we are picking, and if you have a good robot, and you work well with us, we will pick you...whether you be the most popular team, or the most obscure under the radar team out there.

As for Kyle, for whatever reason 88 defeated you at River Rage, one thing is for sure, you definately cannot take anything away from them. They had an excelent defensive strategy going in, and it doesn't matter how it worked, but it worked. Please give credit where credit is due.

Good Luck All,
Andy Grady

In short, "If our robot were better, you would not have beaten us," doesn't really seem to constitute itself as fact.

Ah, why won't you people stop it. I really try to follow gracious professionalism, but you people are trying to me a bad guy, and force me to respond in a not so nice matter. Why do people criticize post you make on this forum? I was stating a fact, "our robot was not performing well at River Rage, so it wasn't a fair assessment to judge us as week" I didn't say what other people were implying that the victory was ours in any ways.

Its exactly like Rick's post, you blow it into proportion, and point fingers at everybody. Why can't people just leave what it is "a comment" its your opinion. Don't like it, don't complain about.

I believe if there is an inaccuracy in what people post than you can post something to correct them. Otherwise don't post.

Anyways In "gracious professionalism" I hope that no one else quotes me on this subject or brings up any more useless bickering. Please do not respond, I'm serious.

Clanat 01-03-2003 13:48

If you stop replying everyone else will too. Just saying "please do not respond" invites other people to defend themselves, and then they add the "do not respond" clause. If you want to argue, please don't do it in a public forum.

HELLOOoooo To ALL
Last year was 2002 it is now 2003!!!!! Good luck to all the OLD and NEW teams in FIRST this year. We at team 88 have worked very hard this year as all teams do to put on a great show of bots. This year will be no different, NH should be a HOOT. We are looking forward to another great year. TJ2 is alive and well but as in previous years NO PHOTOS till thur. Good luck to all in NH. We TEAM 88 TJ2 will be the ones in the tie-dye in case you forget.
We are the only team with certified MOE SOCKS and team 88 tie-dye shirts to trade come early to the pit with your trades.

PS Thanks Andy G. we work very hard on team work, strategy, sportsmanship, etc.

As I say First bots are like snowmen!!!!!!!!
They fall from the sky unassembled and we but them together, (This is another Moeism) I have my own little world. But it's ok ....they know me here.

See You ALL in NH on thur.

BAE System's team's

i have to say that team 166 spent there off season well. there two speed transmission has all the kink's worked out. This 3rd version shift's on the fly is super simple and both gear's have a bit of bite to supprise everyone! There design will fit under the bar toss/throw stack's and has a 6 foot plow. in only there second year as a BAE System's team i have a good feeling about this team's robot seeding high.

team 151 Nashua has always proformed well. if we remember in 97 they were the first team to go undefeated to #1 seed and then win the regional. then in 98 they were a semi finalist in 01 they were 7th i think and in 02 they were selected for the final's. so i wouldn't ever count them out.

You know there's always that added pressure for a BAE System's team to win there own regional. good luck to everyone coming and congradulation's on picking what will go down as the best regional that everyone will wish they played in.

D@ve 02-03-2003 11:44

No no no... this post is for who the favorites are for winning the regional. Yes it may not be sensible however teams have reputations. Speaking as a strategist in picking alliances the capabilities of a robot should not just be the only deciding factor of selecting a team. Reputation and drivers are key when participating in the finals thats why some teams such as 157, 190, and others have great reputations as good alliance partners because they are well coached.

BTW this is a new year but the past will not be forgotten so easily. But the fighting will end now

high score of the day

team 166 and there alaince partner were able to score 232 points! that is the high's score so far at the manchester regional. please correct me if i am wrong but congradulation's to all who were involved in such a high scroing match!
