srawls 27-02-2003 21:32

Ooo, this is fun :)

I have aquired through various means the nicknames of Code Warrior and Perfect 10. Code Warrior because I'm a programmer, and Perfect 10 because I sometimes was the human player during our offseason comps, and they would say "all you have to do is get 10 balls in, no more" (well, 10 was all we could throw! :)), so I said at the end of each match "I got a perfect 10." Eventually I jokingly called myself "Perfect 10," and it just stuck.

Oh ... and ask another member of my team about the title "Madhatter" :)

Matt Attallah 27-02-2003 22:30

Schwing!! and Pimp are the only 2 i can "Legally" say w/o being banned...:yikes:

evulish 27-02-2003 22:34

Well...this didn't start in robotics...but it gets confusing when around school friends and robotics friends. I got the nickname 'Chuck' in French II (loooong story...)... and, well, our robot name is Chuck. Luckily, nobody on the robotics team calls me by my nickname. But it's confusing when we do demo's and people from my school try to talk to me.

Ehh...my real name is Grant...and at robotics, there is a lot of talk about grants...like the money things. It gets confusing!(*&@#$(*&

Elyse Holguin 28-02-2003 16:49

Goose!

hehehe, my name has 2 origins...

i have this thing for geese, stemming from my 7th grade year, our science olympiad team made it to state, and the morning we were leaving the hotel, we see geese outside. anyways, dont EVER EVER tick geese off. we did, and they statred like, chasing us, and i ws the last person, and ran into the hotel again. unfortunately for me, there were those double door thingies, and the goose got in after me b/c the door closed slow, and the people inside the hotel were holding the other door closed so the goose couldn't get it with me, so there i was, me and a goose. it was crazy and wanted out, so i had to not get it angrier than it was and run back out the other door. so because geese are crazy when they're mad, like i can be, that's where i got it mostly.

also, our team has nicknames, and everyone had topgun names, and because of the above story, i chose goose! and it kinda stuck when i chose my delphi name,(actually, it's my second name, a while back when i had aol i was elyse71 but i forgot the password, and since we cancelled our aol account, i never found out the password again, thus forcing me to make a new one.) well yeah, so it stuck. :D

Team238-aholic 28-02-2003 17:30

this is great...when I was a senior on our team...everyone had a nickname...

I was El PResidente...for the obvious reasons, because I was the president..,theres a gazillion more...but I don't feel like naming my whole teams nicknames...

Jonathan M. 28-02-2003 17:37

I don't think I have a robotics nick but I do have a few nicknames given to me by general friends.
Nick Names:
------------------
Jon
Spidey
Spider-Man
Spider-Punk
Jon- Jon
Minor

Thats about it... See you guys later.

Josh Hambright 01-03-2003 13:34

My nick name is One Angry Dwarf, or Dwarf, or Jtosh.

My real name is Josh but i decided one day that i was going to start spelling it with a silent T so we started writing my name as Jtosh on alot of stuff for robotics as a joke, and well some people didn't get the silent part so it has stuck and now its jtosh.

One Angry Dwarf is the name of a Ben Folds song and back during my first year on the team we had nick names on our Jerseys that the advisors picked... my serugate father Kevin picked the name for me cuz we were both fans of ben folds and as he put it "Its the whole little john or tiny thing, they always call the big guy by a name that implies he is small cuz its funnier that way!" So it stuck but has been shorted to Dwarf in most cases just because its easier to yell in the pits.

Brm789 01-03-2003 14:02

Oi Vey! The Nicknames

Ok, well....Not that all these came from robotics but I have a few too many nicknames.

Moose, from sixth or seventh grade was given to me as a joke. I had a crush on a kid who was called beaver because of his overbite and as a both mean and fun thing a friend called me Moose since I was pretty tall at that age and well...Moose and Beaver. Like Moose and Squriell. Heh. Don't ask.

If any of you have seen, or rather heard, me at competitions I'm really LOUD and annoying. I have a bad habit of bouncing and chirping and making weird noises for no other reason then I can. Thus, Furby, came and stayed.

I've also been called Eri which is just a nice shortening of Erin, my real name. Why you'd need to shorten it any more is beyond my understanding.

Eri Berri Cherri Pie and Eri Blue Berri have also been used in conjunction with Eri. Why? I don't know.

Oh Yes, on more..TiggerGirl. Bouncing issue. LOL. I did it in disney with family and friends and whelp...that's what they called me.

hacksaw692 01-03-2003 23:07

I have too many nicknames to list off, but Hacksaw is my robotics name. I remember the day that I actually got my nickname. I believe it was the during the first few days when we started building last year. The aluminum L channels needed to be cut and the task was given to another girl. Heh, it was kinda funny watching her. I gave a couple of pointers to her cause she was going about it all wrong, so she made me do it. Our engineer thought that I did a pretty good job and made me cut some more.

At one point during the day, the hacksaw went missing. People were asking where the hacksaw went and I responded for some strange reason. *shrugs* And when they did find it, our other engineer asked for the "hacksaw girl" as she did not yet know my name. So I was dubbed "Hacksaw" as time went on.

As it says in my sig, if you come to team 692's pit and ask for a hacksaw, I will respond.

Coco the Monkey 01-03-2003 23:19

My name...is Coco...

Yeah, you might have guessed already, but my nickname is Coco.

I was talking to a friend of mine on our team, and he said "You know what Vince? You need a nickname."

So he started calling me Coco, and I guess it spread.

MisterX 02-03-2003 00:05

Ryan Dognaux 02-03-2003 00:21

Well my real name is Ryan... but anyways part of my C.D. name is "Raul".. well that's what everyone calls me @ robotics. Anyways, a few people on my team were making up spanish nicknames for everyone during the 2002 kickoff... and mine just stuck I guess.

So if you see me you can use Raul or Ryan, either works. :D

Ash 02-03-2003 03:45

Here we go...

"Fuzzy"... "He isn't doing any work"... "Mac Daddy C"... "Christophe"... "Bum"... and last, but not least, "Johnny Schlong" (if you knew my last name, it would make sense)...

-Ash

Lauren 02-03-2003 10:41

A lot of people at robotics call me L-A-Kelly or L-A because LAKelly is what i have to use to log into the network on the computers at school. So, it has just kind of stuck with me now.

Ben Mitchell 02-03-2003 12:34

Some members of my team call me "Excel Man"

<---Uses Excel to make strategy databases. :D

Devin L. 03-03-2003 18:40

lol mike no one calls u "number two" except andy

Kristina 03-03-2003 19:01

For some reason our advisor decided to set up a monarchy and i was dubbed Queen since I was in charge of everything that was non-technical.

However, the nickname that stuck with me most was "AK"...which in polite terms stands for "Butt Kicker"...you should be able to figure that out. It was a very short and simple nickname that was quite fitting.

Gee. I wonder who gave me that one. maybe people have seen the picture....MOE hat with Diablo wig on top, plus Daisy headband around it.... Just wait til this year...Ive TOPPED that one...hehehe

Elgin Clock 04-03-2003 12:23

Nicknames huh.... I don't think so or at least none I can say in public, But I do hear the statement "Don't touch anything" alot, maybe that's my nickname.

Of course, a fellow CD Poster on another team had reffered to me as "The Clock" to another CD poster friend of mine so I guess I can use that one.

George1902 04-03-2003 14:23

nicknames? umm... well, in high school whenever my best friend and i would see eachother i'd yell accross the courtyard, "Hey! Redneck!" and he'd yell back, "Hey! Fat Man!" so i guess that could count...

oh, and Carolyn calls me Ringo. and if you don't know why, come in the tigerbolt chat sometime and ask me... =-]

Bill Gold 04-03-2003 14:38

I call Jim (FotoPlasma) "tard," "moron," "hippie," and other assorted names. I guess those could count as nicknames :D. He replies with just as interesting nicknames.

Kiwi_queen 04-03-2003 15:30

Well, the big nickname for me is "Button Queen". Why? well it's because I actually enjoy making buttons...something noone else on my team could believe. so now I'm in charge of makin the buttons...and am the ultimate Button Queen. ;o)

ahecht 18-03-2003 08:30

Well, 190 actually has an official policy of nicknaming team members. Every Saturday night during the build season, and after every competition, we play a rousing game of Crud. However, everyone playing must be called by their "Crud name," instead of their real name. If someone present doesn't have a Crud name, a quorum of the named players will come up with one for them (although the final decision rests with the one we call Black Hole).

Crud names traditionally are no more than two syllables long, are somewhat demeaning, and have some connection to a person's personality, appearance, or past behavior. For example, my Crud name is "Luzer." I'll leave it up to the other members of 190 who post here to reveal theirs.

My old team (992) had nicknames as well that went on the back of our t-shirts, but they were an optional thing (although a majority of the team did chose to have a nickname). Last year, I was "The Brain" (and yes, my VP was "Pinky").

KyleGilbert45 18-03-2003 11:22

Nicknames

Some how i picked up the nickname Papa Razzi this year...lol... probably becuase i've always got my camcorder or digital camera on me...
Another "nickname" i usually go by is... "Twin" or "Gilbert" for all those fools that cant tell Clark and I apart..

Amanda Morrison 18-03-2003 11:38

Back in high school, I was 'Anoda', because yes, even back in 6th grade, apparently I couldn't spell my own name. That stuck for.. wow, eight years now. Even now when people say 'hey Noda' or 'Anoda', I turn around.

Now, I give out the nicknames. One of my favorite nicknames is 'Rabbit'- known on Delphi here as josh_johnson. He's got to be about 6' and 125 lbs, making him one of the skinniest people I know. The first time he came with the team to eat dinner, he only had a leaf of lettuce... so I coined 'Rabbit' and the name stuck.

Alaina 18-03-2003 18:05

I don't really have a nickname (though I'd like one). I was called "Sunny" once because I was the only one that didn't mind being outside...in the sun...

DarkRedDragon 18-03-2003 19:18

hmmm... you can get some interesting nicknames from your first and last names! If u check my profile, my name is Andrew Kamerosky, now thats a dossy! Andy, Android, And, Drew, and so many more! Thats only the beginning! M last name is like one of those puzzels where u need to make as many words as you can out of a word, and in this case, my last name! Kam, runstk, sky, ski, ros, and many more! I have so many, i have 1 nickname per friend! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! So if you see me scouting, building, fixing, eating, hacking(Hacky sac), or anyhting else, be ready with a nickname!

Pin Man 29-03-2003 23:35

Pin Man

Nick Mac 30-03-2003 00:43

my nicknames not that interesting...its mac, which is just an extremely short version of my last name...

Melissa H. 01-04-2003 16:38

I've been called: Freshman.... numerous times...although I'm not a freshman...I have no idea what started that...but I usually answer to any varying takes on my name (Melissa)...occasionally, just "Hey you" works...Meli has been used...Missy (Although I really dislike that nickname...)...Shadow...works too...heh.:)

Hailfire 01-04-2003 18:11

I've been called Squirt a long time ago for two reasons. At that time, I was short, and, I liked to swim. (This was sometime in 3rd Grade) Other than that, I only have one other nickname which hasn't been used in 5 years. That would be Jay.

Greg Perkins 02-04-2003 09:46
