Girls: What beauty tips do you give to other girls for Competions?

I recently decided to allow my normally very short nails to grow out. It didn't take much time and we had a week off from moe. When I returned I reliezed two things...they were going to so get broken when I worked with the machines and I could only imagine competion. Anyone else have long nails that get in the way? How do you keep them long? what other beauty tips do you have for us girls?

Katie Reynolds 02-03-2003 17:26

Nails + FIRST = No-no.

Especially if you're working on the robot. I had a set put on for prom in November and had them taken off (well, actually I wound up prying them off with my leatherman) the day before kick-off. Nails get in the way, and it's impossible to pick anything up with them!

If you're used to doing your make-up in the morning ... don't count on it at competitions. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm always so worn out at night (and so tired when I wake up in the morning!) that make-up doesn't even cross my mind ... and for me, make-up is only mascara and maybe a little eye-shadow. :)

Keep a hairtie handy in case you need to put your hair up! Especially if you are (again) working in the pits. If you don't have a hairtie, use a ziptie instead. It works, it's cute, and way geeky. :p

Heh. That's all I've got.

... Did I just write "beauty tips" for FIRST girls?? :ahh:

AdamT 02-03-2003 18:52

Like...oh, my goodness, I need more tips!!!

I usually have to get up at 5am on competition days to get myself ready and looking my best!!!

Facials are sooo good after a long day of FIRST!!!!!!

Ashley Weed 02-03-2003 19:23

hmmm.. lets see.... tips for chicks... eek...
after going to bed at 2 am when finishing up from scouting/strategizing work... I usually begin to arouse around 5 am to wash my freshly died blue hair... I try to remember to comb it..... put pants on.. brush teeth... put team shirt on... grab shoes and make it to the hotel dinning room just in time to have breakfast with my driving partner... put shoes on ... half an hour later short discussion with coach and human player.. run to catch the bus for the competition...

.. rule of thumb... if you are a real FIRST girl.... don't worry about it....

... ... ... well, this did just come from me.... so I wouldn't know how much a 'girly' girl should follow it....

Ouch, folks. While I agree this thread may be a tad vapid, I thought part of FIRST's great appeal was its ability to transcend stereotypes.

Maybe not.

..sorry... didn't intend to hurt anyone by that.... I grew up in the dirt and grease.... I am a big supporter of females in science and engineering.. and their involvement in FIRST.....

Tips for getting cute??

I can totally help out...hahaha...

1. You might not have time to dry your hair....there fore pulling it up in a ponytail, braids, or any cute little updo always works.
2.GLITTER
3. Bring a compact and just put your make up on in the bathroom....its not hard...
4.GLITTER
5.HAIR GLITTER

ya thats about it....lol....glitter is always good :)

it's okay if girls want to look pretty while working on robots

2.GLITTER

Glitter...as long as you're not working on the bot and don't over do it! Besides I think if your (guys and girls) hair is long they're going to make you put it up in a bun, ponytail, or whatever for saftey reasons if you're going into the pit.

D.J. Fluck 02-03-2003 21:25

Ahh Gliter is bad, it gets all over other people's clothes and if it gets on the bot, its extra weight!!!!!! :ahh: :p

purpledaisy 02-03-2003 22:09

well, i'm not a girly-girl. i wear make-up once in a while (though it is fun sometimes). my major tip is: keep your nails painted. seriously! it strengthens and protects them, so that when the machine gauges your nails or you get something scratched off them by anything, it gets the polish, not your nail. it also makes it less tempting to peel those layer splits.
glitter is good, as is colored hairspray.
buns in your hair are golden, if you can do them. if not, ponytails or french (or german) braids work great.

yeah, i'm probably one of the last people to give fashion tips usually... but hey, it's fun.

I should make a thread like this for guys...

1. go to bed in clothes you wore that day.
2. wake up the next day and you're ready to leave :P

Brm789 03-03-2003 06:46

LOL! Speak to any of my team members to find out the truth but usually, I am the last person to care what I look like in the shop. I'm not on pits this year so I'm up in stands and I wanna look purty. Havn't figured out why but I do. Maybe it was all those weeks in the shop with only two other girls and one guy who had hair long enough to be a girl but was so not a girl cause he's muscular and amnly *hugs Kyle and then runs away cause.. No TOUCHIE KYLE rule* Seriously though, I think it's alright if you can manage to be up early and do what ya need to do. Frankly. though, I anit waking up that early to dry my hair and all. Bun is good...very good. I love the advice everyone has given though and thanks

The only thing I ponder is that has anyone, I know males are reading this thread for some reason, that you have done that was extreme in way of "beauty" products and/or not "beauty" products. Such as, covering your face with your team color and what have you? Looking for some good ideas for that too.

Amanda Morrison 03-03-2003 10:35

From what I learned last year, some Do's and Don'ts I plan on taking into consideration for this year.

Do's
1. If your hands are dirty... so what? Wear dark jeans, wipe them on them.
2. Keep your hair out of your face. If you have short hair, put it up before competition.
3. Get ready before the competition. Not on the bus, not in the stands. Before. Those extra five minutes will leave you refreshed for the rest of the day.

Don'ts
1. No matter how fired up you are, don't try to spike up your hair with glue. Worst Idea Ever.
2. Those teams that have the cool fake tattoos? Don't put them on your hands or face. They smear. Everywhere.
3. Don't do your makeup in the stands or worry about how your hair looks. You do realize that you're at a robotics competition with a ton of peers your own age, right? There are a ton of guys there, covered in sweat and grease, worrying more about solenoids and drill motors rather than if your lipstick is refreshed.

Good luck girls!

Team238-aholic 03-03-2003 11:44

- lol, good point with the fake tattoos....and if your going somewhere warm where you might get tan...don't put the tattoo somewhere that might tan, because you might get the tattoo imprint tanned on you...ya its happened before...lol...I had a bobcat on my arm for like a week (hehehe, still love you jesse)

Kiwi_queen 04-03-2003 15:45

ok. here's some tips for saving time.

1) take yer showers at night and then either blow-dry your hair or just let it air dry over-night. this way when you get up, you have that extra 15-30 minutes to do yer make-up.

2) before you go to bed, try to get at least a general idea of what you might wanna wear the next day. even if you change your mind in the morning, for some reason, it still takes less time than just tryin to decide right off the bat in the morning. again, this also leaves you more time for make-up.

3) do your hair up in a ponytail or braid or something. 'cuz first of all, it won't get caught in anything if you're workin in the pits. and second of all, hair up is less likely to get knotted up or messed up bad.

4) go easy on the make-up. just do cover-up, mascara, and lipgloss. if you wanna put on a bit of eyeshadow, go for it. but remember, guys are gonna be more worried about the bots than yer looks during the competitions (so save your great make-up for later) plus, the more make-up you put on, the more chance of getting it messed up there is.

oh yeah...and always, always remember to put on deoderant. Nobody wants to sit next to a deoderant-less person who's been sweatin all day.;)

Brm789 04-03-2003 16:12

Is there anyway we can make that a rule for all people so everyone wears deorant? *laughs* I was wondering though, how many people find perfume and/or colonge to be bothersome? I'm one of those epople that having too much is just not cool. Curious. Hehe. Anyone recommend a brand?

THIS KIND smells good!!!

Yeah, thats a great brand

You must be all the rage at competitions. Now, does it come in travel size? LOL. Good one though. I love the creativiness of this group. Coco, you be nice though. Hehe.

Anyone know how you get permant black marker off besides letting it fade?

you can always try nailpolish remover. that usually works. or something like "GOOP" which is a waterless thing used to get off all kinds of stains and stuff. it works quite well.

easiest way... never put it on!

Brm789 05-03-2003 15:53

It's not on me, thank God, however a family friends daughter got ahold of a perment marker a day or so ago and has it EVERYWHERE. My mother and her friend have not been able to get it off and thought since robotics teams deal with grease stains and everything else, they might know. Nail Polish remover is very harsh on the skin and did I mention that it's on her face?

Isopropyl Alcohol works pretty good. It is not too harsh for the skin either. Just test a skin spot first to be sure that they are not allergic or something.

purpledaisy 05-03-2003 22:41

another thing that might work, and might be gentler, is an astringent cleaner or maybe a makeup remover.

Ashes 06-03-2003 13:16

Back the the Make up thing...I don't usually wear that much...but I would say eye liner, I know it is kinda an odd ball one but when I wear that with Mascara it helps mke my eyes look bigger...so then if if I see myself I look awake so then I FEEL AWAKE! As many of you would know i'm usually VERY energetic!

Molly Menges 06-03-2003 14:55

ok...i have never been "cute" for competitions..usually the guys take longer to get ready than i do!! if you aren't a morning person (like me) i'd say take your shower at night..get up about 15 minutes before you have to meet the rest of your team...wash your face, brush your teeth, put deodorant on, get dressed (in the clothes you laid out the night before), slap your hair up in a pony tail and you're ready to go!
you're most likely going to get dirty anyway..so who cares??

Elyse Holguin 09-03-2003 02:17

what's wrong with looking feminine?

hey, what's wrong with looking a little girly? just because we're on pit crew, doesn't mean we have to look all messy.

during competitions, i wear makeup, doesn't mean i take 3 hours on it. makeup's made for speed nowadays anyway. bit of the powder /concealer in one, tinted lipgloss, blush, use blush as eyeshadow. (unless you wanna spend 30 seconds more opening and applying eyeshadow too) takes less than 5 minutes, and you look nice the whole day. (although some teammates in the past would take forever :D) as for hair, yeah, ponytail or half ponytail, unless your roomate wakes up up 2 hours before dawn to get breakfast at the bob evan's across the street and you have like, an hour to spend... than you can curl your hair.

before any of that though, brush teeth, deoderant, make sure clothes are on right. is that really that hard??

Brm789 12-03-2003 17:49

Must of it was taken off with nail polish remover as alot of it was on her hands and face. I don't know how the stuff on her face was taken off since I just told her all the ideas you guys gave me and she might have used all of them

I made a head band from zip ties. I didn't need it, but it's awesome. I also made a necklace out of a bent counter-sink (sp?) screw on a string! =D

Fortunately I'm not in to the "girly" stuff. So I'm not really worried about "beauty tips." It's like: Eyeliner, hair isn't messy, eyebrows aren't messy, nothing in your teeth...yeah

FIRST Girls

I don't know about any other guys, but i'm the kind to find a girl more attractive covered in grease/paint/saw dust/metal shavings etc. ... hey, call me a geek, but whatever...

It just means to me that she has substance to her... more than just standing around and being a conversation piece, she's a get up and go type, and that's just really sexy.

so you go girls, don't worry about to much at competition... t-shirt, shower, deodorant, probably good enough....

If you only had any idea how reassuring this is.
(p.s. - no pants, eh? :D)

To tell the truth, the girls that sometimes try the hardest to look like this are the ones that really aren't involved with the robot enough to look like that normally.

But it's FIRST boys like you that reassure us grungy girls. :)

jzampier 14-03-2003 10:22

OK so I forgot the pants.... :D

along those lines and considering safety, girls especially need to not wear sandals or other open toed shoes to competition. It would really really be bad to drop a robot on your foot if you had sandals on... so please ladies, save those for the beach and wear sneakers or something like that...

additionally, long pants... you have no idea how many times i've slipped a drill bit and hit my legs... only to be saved from a nice gash by a pair of jeans....

other safety related clothing considerations.... short sleeves, so as not to be caught up in moving parts... glasses ( the impact proof kind... ) Smith and Wesson makes some very stylish safety glasses... :yikes:

just my $0.02

I say that from personal experience, not a generalization or stereotype of females involved with FIRST.

The way I see it... If you get out of bed in the morning and manage to stumble onto the bus on time, you're set.

Then again... maybe I was only able to actually get ready because i had the crazy roomate who woke everyone up far too early...oh wait.. i still do... hrm. ::wants to switch rooms:: ::realizes mad love for roomates:: :p

anyways... if you have sane, typical roomates who like waking up at a normal hour, don't worry about it... but if you're like me... either learn to ignore LOUD music and the sounds of roomie trying hard to wake you up in the mornings, or grow a love for coffee.

Ladies, if you are to ask advice on whether you look good or not, ask me! I am not saying that I am desparate or anything it is just that you should get your opinion from the people you want to impress: guys!

The fact that girls participate in robotics competitions is really awesome! So your presence is very appreciative. Anyway I heard that wearing pink will make anyone beautiful a hundred fold. ;)

So guys... how would you like to see a girl at a robotics competition? Looking like they just rolled out of bed? Looking like it took a couple hours to get ready?

Now that we're done clueing each other in, why don't you give us your opinions. ;)

jzampier 18-03-2003 16:08

Clothes optional?

You should present yourself in the matter in which you are most comfortable. Presenting yourself any other way is fake.

People will find you attractive for just being yourself, or they won't, in which case you shouldn't worry about it.

I'm totally a t-shirt and jeans type. I refuse to get all dolled up without a really good reason.

Take notice: Dean always wears jeans and a denim shirt. Do you think he worries about it?

Elyse Holguin 19-03-2003 00:22

sidenote... i'll trade someone almost anything team hammond i have for one of the 233 team shirts... not to mention i don't mind embarassing myself in front of thousands of people, i'm used to being in front of people anyway.. (read my signature) so... what can i do to get one of these shirts?

I have to totally agree with this dude. The most a girl should spend on make-up, and maintenance is five minutes. Anything more than five minutes would make a lady overly worried on her appearance, and could ruin her attitude for the whole day. Not to mention that it would be very bad for your team. Regardless, the ladies should be more focused on enjoying themselves at competitions! :D

So yes, I encourage the ladies to wake up looking like they rolled out of bed and be ready for a robotics competition, rather than spending several minutes/hours in front of the mirror each morning. You need your beauty sleep! :p

KellyT180 19-03-2003 08:38

Beauty Tip eh??

This is Hilarious!!!! sorry... I remember trying to figure out what to wear after we were done.. haha..

But here's my advice...

1. Wear your team shorts and shirt.. it will let everyone know who's team your on.. hehe

2. All you really need is to brush your hair and make yourself look nice.. ponytail, pigtails, french braids, dutch braid, and so on.. they will always be cute..

3. Plan what you want to put on the night before.. what I mean by that is, if your going to wear glitter, then have glitter waiting for you, or if it's mascara or whatever.. Knowing most girls, they have a make-up bag full of well make-up and they're always taking so long to search for what they are looking for..

4. And if all else fails, just say that you didn't go to sleep for 2 days because you were worried about your lost dog and maybe someone will believe you!

:yikes:

IronSlayTallica 19-03-2003 10:25

#1, don't worry about it. #2 I put my hair in spikes. I have longish hair too, and the spikes add character to our bland team. Be yourself and do what you want.

Josh Hambright 19-03-2003 12:18

I spend more then 5 minutes on my apperance...does that make me a bad person?

Its hard to put this hunk of hair up into a mohawk and have it look presentable:) And my hair has become sort of a team icon.

Advice for girls on what i think:
Dont be fake, be yourself. We are more worried about the bots usualy anyways so it doesn't really matter. Just smile cuz a smile can mean alot if your having a bad day and your bot isn't working.

Come now!

I take an hour to get ready - shower, blow dry my hair, fix it, put on makeup, and turn around a couple times in the mirror (to make sure everything looks good, you know).

But I had a BLAST in St. Louis. And besides, it paid off for that Funky Chicken... hence http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...threadid=18732 .

It's okay to look nice, just do your normal beauty routine. You never know when you'll be elbow deep in robot parts and the cutest boy comes and asks if you need help. :D

Okay, I have read enough replies to acknowledge that the ladies feel more comfortable getting ready for a robotics competition on their own time, and that the whole five minutes thing is unrealistic. I was trying to emphasize that you really do not need to worry about your appearance as much. But if you feel comfortable spending hours in front of the mirror getting ready, well then go right ahead.

As for you, oneangrydwarf, preparing a mohawk takes great skill and dexterity to perfect. Thus, needing more than five minutes prepare. Unless, you are awesome and can make a pink mohawk in five minutes. Make sure it is not sloppy. ;)

I think other girls will vouch, too, when I say that no boy would want to see me five minutes after I wake up. *shudders*

Amanda M 19-03-2003 21:09

Okay, here's what my comrades and I do to get ready. Not much in the way of MAKEUP, (I don't like makeup....) We use puffy paint and put it on our faces. We draws giantsixties all over and we paint those stripes under our eyes (think football). All I do for getting dressed up is for the sake of spirit. Just get all colored and get ready to cheer/work. Puffy paint doesn't get in the way!

Firewolf 19-03-2003 22:58

wait a min, wait a min, wait A MIN!

you mean girls are sapposed to get dressed up to impress GUYS?!

omlord! that explains so much!!!

okok, i'm not that dence.....

but as far as i'm concerned,
if i walk out of the hotel room with my buttons done the right way
and the ability to look into the mirror w/o laughing too much
or freaking out - i'm set.

taking some more time to do some more stuff like
comb my hair is an effert i don't even take during school time - i have curly hair, it does what it wants

and for the hair thing, remember, teams give out those bandanas... hehe, those rock for hair too, esp. when you have to
give your hair tie up for robotix reasons.....

but yes, i too ( and i think most of the girls on our team) get ready faster than the guys:confused:

DaveO'B365 20-03-2003 01:22

hmmmm

as you can tell from my profile photo, i didn't have time to wax my chin before VCU last year, and this didn't go over too well for my overall cuteness, i also left my glitter at home. i was also lacking my vanity mirror and i hadn't showered in so long i turned green. it's that whole getting up early thing that threw me off... j/k but i don't really agree about not liking chicks when the first get up, cause i've been out enough and i don't think it makes a big difference... i haven't seen some of you... j/k but i can't imagine that it's that bad.

Biggs717 21-03-2003 08:05

alright I know most girls aren't always up to this...but the girls on our team wake up at 4am to start getting ready for competition we know we dont have to, but we like to get all done up! there's nothin wrong with that but we always wear our hair in ponytails! it gets too hot!

Alaina 21-03-2003 17:37

I think I look just fine when I wake up in the morning. :D

someone understands!!!!!!!!!!!!

but yeah, we get up at 5, and eat breakfast while getting ready, because food at the competition gets really expensive!!

utishpenguin 22-03-2003 19:35

yes yes

no impressing, just a ponytail, a team shirt, pants/shorts, a loud vioce, im out there! hahaha

Judy 23-03-2003 00:18

My team found that skirts + scouting = good. Sometimes it pays to have the happy lil girl all cute when she's helping with the scouting. I was always first rdy in my room (girl's room) at the GLR. We all did any drying of hair the nite b4 and only did quick styles in the morning. We managed to survive getting up at 6. I donno, I do my normal gothic-esque eyes and throw on a lil chap stick and run out the door after throwing on clothes and such. Tip: Lipstick can be done in cars... If you practice.
Good Luck!
~Am (team 783, The ONLY Canadian team at the GLR!!!)

I agree. The whole skirt thing just doesn't happen with some of us. I can't even wear my favorite jeans to competition, because they are low-rise, and they definately fall when I kneel down. I'm sure everyone wants an eyeful of my behind... :ahh:

aaaahhaha aaahahah aahaha!
i'm sorry, but that's so true,
i mean, the fact that it won't be a good idea,
it just brings back memories....

That's why I say, dress comfortably
and if you must dress up, long skirts that you can move in - rock
short skirts cause problems when you gotta sit on the floor w/
a bunch of guys...
I had a lil black skirt last year, and i refused to wear it to nats
(but I had to wear it that nite for something we were going out for)
and so i borrowed a pair of shorts from one of my team mates!
we love it b/c now i can say that i've been in his pants/shorts
and not be lying :yikes:

5!?!?! That blows my mind why (or moreso HOW) you do that.

I am lucky to be awake by 7:30 when I have to be at the Comp by 8:00. (10 mins for shower + brushing my teeth, 5 to get dressed and out of the hotel room, 15 for driving from the hotel to the comp)

kristen 23-03-2003 21:19

My roomates said that I take forever in the bathroom in the morning. I never wear makeup, so I don't really understand what takes me so long. All I do is wash my face, put in my contacts, brush my teeth, and do my hair.

I'm neurotic about my hair, though. My hair will change multiple times throughout the day.

Wow, I'd never wear a skirt to a competition.. that would be so uncomftrable/risky, lol.

purpledaisy 23-03-2003 22:42

skirts? AHH!!!

yeah, see me + short skirt = ew, long skirt + power tools = ahh!

hence the reason i wear jeans (with a belt) to competitions. you can look cutesy without wearing a skirt. it's all in the face and voice. the oh i'm so clueless please tell me everything about your robot and show it off for me voice/act works well... not that I've ever used it :D also good is the i know what you're talking about, so keep talking... actually, flirting is good for scouting... anyone agree?

MarkF 23-03-2003 22:50

You flirt at the competitions? DO I have to put a leash on you? Again?

Anyhow, you look wonderful in a short skirt. ;)

Kaelia 23-03-2003 23:08

5 in the morning? Psssht...I'm always last up in my room. Always. My roommates have to jump on my bed to get me up. I'm the first awake, mind you...just the last up. It takes me...5 minutes to get ready. Yeah.

As for skirts...good god, WHY? I mean, really...flirting isn't gonna get you any more scouting information, and it makes robotics girls look really bad if you prance around in a short skirt -_-' Even long skirts get in the way...pants/shorts = maximum flexibility :D

This year, we bought mechanic's suits for the main kids in the pit area, and man, that really helped on the fashion front! I didn't have to get up in the morning and decide what to wear or how to grab attention. Truth be told, some girls can pull them off. Try it out. They're excellent. I had a lot of fun in mine, and I think I caught some attention (without meaning to, of course  ).

Except you have to practically strip down every time you have to go to the bathroom... :yikes:

Whoa - what???
1) sex appeal sells at FIRST??
what R we teaching our FIRST women??

2) 'I'm so clueless' look?? I'm kinda offended --
OK, I understand that it WOULD get the guy's attention --
but isn't that a bit degrading to us female FIRSTers?
I don't know everything,(which I clearly state at many points)
but I don't wanna be treated like a ditz! if not that then
like 'such a girl'.

I usually put on a 'o, I didn't know that, can you please explain that to me?' I wanna learn!

this is not a personal attack purpledaisy - I agree w/ you on most of those points anyway.
but these 2 points personally had to be said.

purpledaisy 24-03-2003 16:23

Calm down firewolf. I guess the sarcasm in my comments didn't come through online. I'm serious about the skirts, they're dangerous!
As for sex appeal, I'm entirely joking! I'm not a flirt, at least I don't think so, and I don't put on those acts. I never intended anyone to take that seriously! sorry!

Maybe I should start using the sarcasm tags...

ah! Sorry! :(
I DID notice the sarcasm there, believe me, people confuse my sarcasm all the time!!
(the begaining part was in of the post was in jest anyway)
that's why I put that end note on there!

ah! confusion!

But some girls do do that kind of stuff (I've seen it)
and it makes me a bit upset when they put their intelligence down to get a guys attention

-- sorry, but who really finds that attractive?
(I'm not saying be a 'AAAAH!IKNOWEVERYTHING!' person but don't act like a stupid person either!)

ssjcell 24-03-2003 18:35

you know firewolf , i think theres nothing wrong when girls dress like taht especially when your all bored and stuck in the pits, constantly cutting your hands over those $@#$ little cut up zip ties. then when a nice young lady comes over dressed up all attractive like to ask you questions, it makes you happy and you stop thinking about your bloody dirt covered hands. MAKE ME HAPPY PLEASE!

ahem...

but i dont think they have to dress in short skirts or whatever, to make themselves look nice, for example that one female driver on robbe extreme (i think) she was just wearing a bandana, jeans and a team shirt, and i thought she looked great.

i had alot of time to observe people while i was in the pits between rounds and there was no more fixin to do on the robot.

does anyone else do that?

purpledaisy 24-03-2003 22:28

No, Firewolf's right... some girls do make themselves out to be idiots just to get a guy's attention. it's stupid, and very insulting to the rest of us. I'll be cutesy (it's fun!) and maybe flirt (but don't tell my team I admitted to it), but I only play ditz with people who know better than to believe it. Yeah, go ahead and look good, but be comfortable! It's important - more important than anything else on competition days. discomfort = distraction = dangerous
btw firewolf, I didn't mean to attack you in my last post... i hope it didn't come across like one!

Team238-aholic 24-03-2003 23:05

i kinda feel like this is directed towards me...even though you all don't know me...lol and don't know what i wear to competitions....cause i'm not on the team anymore anyway....

but I went to the BAE regional...and it was soooo hot in the stupid building...and i had nothing to wear when i came home except for a jean skirt....so i wore that and a t-shirt i made....

that and i had makeup on and i did my hair...

I'm a girly girl...what can i say :)

first off, there are some nasty penalties on our team if you're late for the bus getting to the competition... and our team wakes up around 5:30 or so anyways.... then we have to be all up and leaving the hotel super early to get there before pits open and such... so 5 isn't exactly very early in our standards... especially if you're like me and my roomie who need to eat about twice their weight in food everyday... wait that's just me.. anyways, yeah, food is good.

as for skirts... whoa... first off, my legs are usually banged up from my clumsy self running into everything. secondly, i've been running since middle school, and i have leg muscles bigger some of the guys on my team, which i don't like, so yeah, my legs are staying hidden... and long skirts... psh, if you're gonna cover that much leg anyway, just wear pants.

and well people, dress and doll yourself up however you feel. as long as you're comfortable and confident, that's ultimately all you need to look beautiful, whether you can roll outta bed (i envy you guys) or take 5 minutes to slick some lipgloss on and maybe concealer for breakouts (me if i'm tired), or do the whole shebang of hair, makeup, outfits, and so on. it's all gonna come down to how comfortable you are being you. that's true beauty, no matter what shape or size you come in. and girls- don't ever dumb yourself down at a competition... while yeah, it might be cute to some people for like, 3 minutes.... it can get really old and really annoying really fast. If you're in FIRST, you're an intelligent person. Don't make it seem otherwise.

Amanda525 25-03-2003 19:48

Hah! What an interesting subject!! Well, I guess you could say fashion is irrelevent, yet I guess that depends on the person! Beauty advice.... be yourself.... but long nails no way. Safety glasses are a fashion must have. I do also believe in washing my hair in motor grease!!! HAHA JK!;)

Alaina 25-03-2003 20:32

I think being a geek is the epitome of cute. So I hardly ever bother with how my makeup looks (I only wear eyeliner anyway) or if my hair is "messed up." If I "doll up" at all it's wearing extra jewelry (a zip-tie tiara and a screw on a string) and spiffy safety glasses...

I just act/look as natural as I can...

utishpenguin 25-03-2003 21:17

slick safety googles is a have too...*nods*
