Personally, I think SMS-style messages are infinitely worse than misspelled ones. There have been several examples in this thread, so I won't repeat, but I honestly can't stand people who write like that. Take the extra 5 seconds and type each word out completely! You're not paying by the character and speed doesn't matter, so spend the time and make your post readable.

If you're like me though, spelling mistakes really bug the heck out of me. That's why in practically all of my posts, spelling is correct, grammar is correct, etc. Once in a while I'll use short forms. Especially in IM's.

Just looking at this thread, people seem to be using grammar and spelling just fine. When a topic is worthy of discussion and something people don't want to look bad in, they'll use proper English. However, other people who just don't care will never care. You may delay them for a few seconds but a preview doesn't require any spelling or grammatical changes. I think this is just a dumb thing to do as with any forum that grows large, you will have these problems. One alternative method to fix is just to have lots of mods who will take care of it and people who can click the 'report post to moderator' link.

i just ignore "SMS" messages. if they want to type like that, fine, they won't get help from me. i figure if they want to be dumb and "save time" they can. if we all agree to ignore them, well, they'll wise up much faster than if forced to write out every word i think.
