Movies to watch on busrides

A little prelude to this.

We wanted to get Goldmember for the trip down, but no one brought it. The reason we wanted it was because the team leader kept quoting it, with things like "I love gold", or "the robot's toight, toight like a tiger". So someone went out and bought Goldmember and it was sitting in the toolbox the whole trip, right on top. A kid from team 69 came up and said "so, I have just one question, is Goldmember a standard issue item in your tool box?" Greatest question.

So yeah, my top 3

1) Eraserhead
2) Monty Python
3) Anything by Kubrick to mess with the frosh's heads

Katie Reynolds 10-03-2003 16:30

Dumb and Dumber
Caddyshack
Billy Madison

And, of course ...

The Matrix
(team tradition) ;)

- Katie

Rev. Lovejoy 10-03-2003 21:00

We'd watch The Matrix except half of our team are philosophy lovers and would argue about it all three days of competition, not fun.

Jeff Waegelin 10-03-2003 21:20

Does watching it on a laptop in a minivan count? We always bring a power inverter and DVD laptop and watch DVDs. We don't have any "favorites," but we've watched a lot of movies.

Koko Ed 10-03-2003 22:45

We watched....
Monty Python and the Holy Grail

and
Princess Mononke

on the way down

and we watched

Cool Runnings
(a good movie to watch before a FIRST competition).
and
Orange County
(a movie that wasn't as dumb as I first thought it would be).
on the way back.

Amanda Morrison 11-03-2003 21:24

Team Hammond must have watched 'Remember the Titans' about four thousand times last season.

... and I cried every time. :(

hixofthehood 12-03-2003 06:26

I was going to say that Cool Runnings is a must. Even if you don't watch it, it has to be present. It's like, the patron saint of long bus rides.

Sandlot's up there too.

Christina47 12-03-2003 13:22

ALADIN!! <- is that how you spell it. LOLS. :D

Christina47 12-03-2003 16:31

MONSTER INC.

Have you guys watched Red Green yet?

Elgin Clock 12-03-2003 16:52

Watched "Canadian Bacon" with John Candy on the way to NYC last year!! lol One of our team members thought we were going to the Canadian Regional, we had to subdue him when he found out we weren't going to Canada!! lol

Alaina 12-03-2003 22:25

We don't take a bus. We have parent drivers. =|

We're so poor.

evulish 12-03-2003 22:41

Disney movies are cool. This coming from a 17-year-old guy. Hmm.

My suggestions:
Speed (hehe)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (interesting movie :) but the book is still better)
Any kind of stupid humor movie is good.

I was trying to think of more geeky/cultist movies...I don't quite think Clockwork Orange would be allowed on a bus for a school-related event :)

My team took a bus to Florida last year. Pennsylvania to Florida. Ouch. :D

Yeeah no kidding, incredible movie, but i'm sure some kids would start crying and then there'd be tears, and therapists and there's no need of that at a robotics event.

I've never listened to "Singing In The Rain" in the same way again.

Ash 13-03-2003 14:58

Movies...

"Holy Grail", without a doubt (our entire team loves it).

Maybe "The Matrix"...

If I had my way, "Dead Alive"...

Of course, no trip would be complete without "Evil Dead 2", or "Army of Darkness".

-Ash

Christina47 13-03-2003 15:58

HA! Never saw Red Green before.......

Team238-aholic 13-03-2003 16:41

any Adam Sandler movie is a staple to have on bus rides....

ChewyMasterFlex 13-03-2003 16:52

Has someone forgotten The "Bill and Ted's most Excellent Adventure" series? It sounds cheesy, it looks cheesy, and is most excellently cheesy. Perfectly fits the sterotype of the horrible Busride Movie you watched in middle school. :D

Guyute 13-03-2003 19:50

i'm disappointed in you guys...you are missing simply the best bus ride movie ever "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"!!!

"Bueller.......Bueller.......anyone seen Ferris Bueller"

TD78 13-03-2003 21:16

Without a doubt The Boondock Saints would be my number one choice. It's wicked awesome. Of course though, The Matrix is definitely a close number two. If you want a funny one, I would suggest Extreme Days. It isn't all that well known but really good.

Da SPAMinatress 13-03-2003 21:24

"The Goonies" of course!!

ComBBAT_Amy 13-03-2003 21:56

ohh my

Last year I awoke on the bus to the sound of smuggled home videos of me dancing with a wig on to some oldies song with a microphone and sunglasses...I dont think I will ever live that one down

jzampier 13-03-2003 22:48

PG or bust.

Our highschool has a PG or G rating requirement. This makes disney movies very popular.

Then we discovered 'Top Gun' was PG.
And it got better...

That's the way it is on our trips. We are not allowed to watch R rated films on school functions. PG-13 is pushing it.

evulish 14-03-2003 15:54

Haha. Just wait for the adults to take a little nap...then commandeer the VCR :D

Top Gun...what kind of crap is that. Hot Shots is better than the movie it's a parody of! :)

I totaly agree with you Boondock Saints is such an awsome movie, I cant wait for the Sequel to come out, I also cant wait for Matrix Reloaded and Revelations to come out either, May 15th will be quite the day for me... WOO HOO:D

That's the funniest part. I'm not too fond of the rest of the movie, though.

FAKrogoth 16-03-2003 14:10

Don't watch a plot-oriented movie like Apollo 13 on a bus. I found it very hard to try to make out all the talking, and never quite being able to. Independence Day is a much better choice, because the three physics buffs talking about how completely unrealistic it is won't take much away from the "Big-Bada-Boom"-ness of it.

I love making sarcastic comments during movies. :D

Ben Mitchell 16-03-2003 14:17

we wached Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Lord of the Rings (special Edition), Some Adam Sandler movie, The Hunt for the Red October (we were going to the Annapolis Regional ;) ) and part of Remember the Titans.

The LOTR isnt a good bus movie - it's tough to follow on a small screen and no surround sound. :(

I can't wait for the sequel too. One of the best movies ever, beautifully done, just awesome.

Nick Mac 06-04-2003 13:58

Top three bus ride movies...
1. Monty python and the Holy Grail
2. Happy Gilmore
3. Dumb and Dumber

MichalSkiba 06-04-2003 19:55

If your Canadian or your bus is prodominately populated with
Canadians, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND:

Dr. Strangelove (Stanley Kubrick, 1964),

I gaurentee you'll laugh your pants off. (you can compliment with 'Bowling For Columbine' by Michael Moore)

Other then that, you'll want something 'action packed' or something that will hold peole's attention, so i recommend the following:

>Lord of the Rings
>Resevoir Dogs and
>Pulp Fiction (provide most of you are over 18 or have adult accompaniment)
>Godfather, Part 1
>James Bond (get the older ones with Sean Connery or Roger Moore)
>Matrix
>Fight Club
>Ocean's Eleven
>The Professional
>The Negotiator
>Arlington Road (don't play it if ppl are afraid of terrorists)
>Full Metal Jacket
>Black Hawk Down (I found it kind of boring)
>Meet the Parents
>!!!! Ronin !!!!
>Snatch
>Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
>Shrek
>Ferris Buller's Day Off
>Donnie Darko
>Hunt for Red October
>Fight Club
>Behind Enemy Lines (acting sucked, great cinematorgaphy)
>Truman Show

The only reason why I'm listing so many is that we have a 30 hour bus ride to Houston, and we already made a list like this for our bus. :D

MBiddy 06-04-2003 20:55

The Professional is one of the best movies ever made.

The last half of Starship Troopers is great.

*raises hand* However, I am Canadian, so of course I have.

I've actually been to several tapings of the TV Show - its as funny in real life as it is on TV for sure!

And on the bus, late at night, when everyone is half asleep, put on THE RING...lol....that'll wake everyone up.

SAVE FERRIS

Like others have said, you have to watch Ferris Buller's Day Off
it is a classic that everyone needs to see. Also the theme about skipping is appropriate becuase almost everyone is missing school for in the name of FIRST.

Also OFFICE SPACE. Great movie.

Minority Report would be another good one.
