Music at regionals

I thought that the choice of music at the regionals was tasteful and, overall, appropriately diverse. I would have chosen differently, but we each have our individual preferences. All I'm saying is that the music was surprisingly tolerable!

D.J. Fluck 10-03-2003 21:51

Yes, it was actually decent for the most part. They even played "Jungle Love" by Morris Day and the Time ;-)

Hrm, I wonder how suprised Andy B was that I knew the lyrics and the dance moves to that song ;)

SkitzoSmurf 10-03-2003 21:52

I agree.
I enjoyed making a fool of myself to Saturday Night Fever

Jeff Waegelin 10-03-2003 21:53

I heard it got a bit repetitive, though. It always does, unfortunately. At least it's decent music, though.

Aaron Lussier 10-03-2003 21:55

Everything I heard at BAE, was great, I heard everything From the Orginal "American Woman" to T.A.T.U, and I only heard Sandstorm once!!!

Billius 10-03-2003 22:27

Any metal?

kristinL356 10-03-2003 23:26

I was surprised at what a good musical selection they had. Although it did a little bad towards the end when they played that "Too Sexy" song. Ick.

DJ,

Step aside. :)

Back in the day, Morris Day and the Time were the thing. I am definitely a product of the 80's, and those were definitely the glory days.

At St. Louis, I was pleasantly suprised that they played "You Got Another Thing Comin" by Judas Priest. Now, if they only would play more Van Halen and Accept.

If every FIRST DJ could just get David Kelly's playlist, then all would be right with the world.

Andy B.

Alaina 11-03-2003 00:54

I agree. But I was so excited to be there I even danced to Avril Lavigne so I guess I didn't really care. =P

They played some Metallica and Pantera at Sacramento, but you guys got Judas Priest!? I feel so cheated! Actually, sadly, I didn't get to listen to too much of the music, specifically. I had to keep on my toes, trying to pay attention as best I could, for the entire competition. Queueing is fun.

Heh, I love that 80's Power Rock / Metal, and even though I don't know the dance moves, like DJ, I can still sing along to Jungle Love with the best of them!

This year's playlist at IRI is going to be even better!!

VCU Regional

I'd have the say the music at the VCU regional was awesome. It wasn't cheesy or nerdy. A touch of techno here and there, some old but good songs, some pop songs. But always setting the right mood. Bravo!

Gabe Salas Jr. 11-03-2003 08:48

If they had some 80's rock/metal going they should have some Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, and Dokken playing at the competitions.

Hopefully they will be playing some of these at UCF:)

9 more days...

Josh Hambright 11-03-2003 08:51

You guys got pantera in sacramento...thats awsome!
What song?

Overall i think that first leans to the happy go lucky music that people in the stands will like, top 40 radio stuff and golden oldies as well as adult contempory, remeber that many of our adult mentors wouldn't like alot of the music many of us would request....

I was missing some techno favorites, like Daft Punk - Harder Better Faster Stronger.
But i survived...

They started repeating alot in cleveland however which wasn't cool and they went through the same loop atleast 4 times on thursday *gag*

mynameisalex 11-03-2003 10:38

The music at the Cleveland regional was... quite different from what I had been expecting. Namely, very very little techno... what do they think we are, popular people?:D

I'm a loser! I want loser music!!!

Gadget470 11-03-2003 11:20

The only innapropriate song (there's always one..) I heard (via webcast) was "The Humpty Dance." Other than that it was a tasteful selection although not my style.

Techno is NOT loser music!!

Rev. Lovejoy 11-03-2003 20:07

I wanted the song Drop the Bomb, because I'm a DDR freak....but noooo, no DTB and no ddr for me, even though I brought my PS and pad.

Other then the typical repettitiveness, it was ok...

My one problem, they only played about 5 seconds of "Cotton Eye Joe."

I was surprised they let Nelly be played...it was a bit sexual for a FIRST competition.

AnimatorSarah 11-03-2003 22:09

Yeah The music at the Cleveland regional I thought was good. I actually new the words to some of the songs. But, as some else already said, when your running around trying to figure out what to do in your next match and why that part on your bot isn't working quite right you don't really notice the music till one of the cherished moments when you have absolutely nothing to do. They don't come often enough. ^.~!

jmort03 12-03-2003 14:45

i didnt like the music alot at buckeye

i agree with loser girl....hahaha..soo funny.. its not that i didnt like the music at buckeye, i just wanted more techno...where was darude?!?!?!?! ROBOTICS WITHOUT TECHNO???? NEVER!!!:ahh:

Yeah! I want loser music too! I think that they should have been playing at least half an hour of the Dr. Demento show, and should have cut out some of the pop princesses.

Billius 12-03-2003 19:39

Pantera? Judas Priest? Metallica? This gives me some hope for the Phoenix regional. Last year I went to LA, and the only song I remember liking that they played was "Liberty" by Steve Vai. I was so excited I sang along with the guitar line :). But yeah, I could definitely go for more metal, and more Vai (come on "Bad Horsie"!). We could use some Megadeth and Alice Cooper also, because they both live here in Az.

Gary Dillard 12-03-2003 22:43

One more week until UCF - I'm looking forward to moshing with George from 1083. It's almost as funny as watching me break dance.

Vin211 13-03-2003 08:39

music

I recall from last year the music from the NYC Regional was unsatifactory. Some people say and I agree the music at the competition and party was distasteful. Hopefully it will be better this year.

you could have gone and used the DDR pad one of the teams converted to a robot controler :p

Kaelia 13-03-2003 20:29

In my ideal world, every Robotics regional would play Anime and Video Game music (and yes, that includes DDR)...

However, the world is not, as we know, ideal. So I had to settle for the nasty pop music they played *sigh* I completely agree with you, Alex...us losers should have loser music!

Nothing against DTB, but after 9-11, I think some people might deem it inappropriate if it was ever played in public.

Anyways, there are better songs in DDR that should have been played at regionals, such as No Limits, Burning Heat, any song by TaQ, Ghosts, and So Deep

IMDWalrus 17-04-2003 15:56

Ugh. The music at WestMI wasn't too terrible, but the music at GLR and the Championship was another story. At GLR, they played some of the worst pop recordings from the past few years. There might have been three people in the arena that were actually happy to hear Britney Spears and NSYNC. There wasn't very much that was good about the music at GLR.

The Championship's music was decent...but not on Thursday. Not only did they play terrible music (Shakira and other MTV rejects, as well as far too much rap), but they played it repeatedly. By the end of the day, I had heard some songs four times each. That's not a good sign.

Then again, I did manage to hear the Barenaked Ladies at both regionals I was at as well as the Championship. They earn brownie points for that.

Ryan Dognaux 17-04-2003 16:04

With all the DDR talk here, I must inform the masses that there was a DDR Version of Sandstorm played in the competition arena once. I must've heard Sandstorm around.. 8 times.. I was in heaven :D That song is the greatest! Techno all the way

P1NKfreak13 19-04-2003 02:31

*I have to say that I loved all the music @ the two regionals I went to! I dont think I heard any 1 song 2-ice! (I went to the Central Florida Regional in Orlando, Florida and the Granite State Regional in Manchester, New Hampshire) I loved it all!
*But I must say that the first day @ nationals, the music on the Curie side...I heard alot of the same songs over and over again! (I mean these were good songs...dont get me wrong, but they did get old when they were being played over and over again!) But even though, I had a KrUnChIn' good time scouting and chillin with my team that wonderful day of practicing. See, the way I look @ it now is that I learned some new songs and my teammate - who doesnt listen to my type of music, *PeTeR*, did also; so it was all around a good thing for all! So the DJ @ nationals on the Curie side...I think you did an awesome job and I loved all the songs you played!! Thank you for helping me to get my fellow team mate knowing @ least the chorus to one of my songs! :D You started out awesome, but only got better as the competition went on! *RoCk On!!*
.stephan1e.

Mike8519 19-04-2003 08:37

I have almost everything made by Taq ^^;. He's an awesome techno artist. Paul Van Dyk and Airbase are awesome too if you like more trance like stuff.

The music at the Regionals and Nationals were well picked I think, It was hilarious to have half of my team singing Avril though :p .

Steve W 19-04-2003 09:22

For your info - all of hte fields at Championship were being fed the same music feed. The sound person had control of levels. We did have an awsome sound guy at Curie field and he did a great job adjusting volumes. He really helped pump up Curie, the best field at Championships!!!

Yeah, especially when he cut the volume of the music so our MC's and crowd could sing certain lines :D

BandChick 20-04-2003 13:47

I'm a judgmental music fan, but I'll admit, the music wasn't terrible. I was really surprised to hear that old 90s dance music. Ask everyone on 25 or anyone on Curie, the three girls in the Hawaiian shirts were singing and dancing to it all!

Ah, the rock appreciation at its finest. :)

((there definitely needed to be a little bit more))
I like metal and hard rock, but im glad they didnt play much ((or even any)) because i don't think that's the right mood, but whatever *shrug*
