Gears

Hey guys Im puting together some Idea's about next years drive train, and I dont have a clue how fast our bot would go with my current set up. So if somone would be nice enough to run these #'s and tell me about how fast we will be going that would rule. We are prolly going to run a Chippy with a 10 tooth gear, then to a 20 tooth gear, on tht same shaft we will have a 10 tooth going to a 25 tooth. On that shaft we will also have a 10 tooth gear going to a 60 tooth gear connected to 2 wheels. So it will be 4WD when both sides are put in, so ya some #'s like speed would be nice, if you have and more questions I can E mail you the lay-out I made.

What wheel size were you thinking of using? It looks to me like your final gear ratio will be 1:30 with somewhere in the vicinity of 75-85% efficiency (assuming 92-95% per stage). So, given the ~4500rpms of the chips under normal load, you're looking at around 2 rotations per second on your wheels. Multiply this by your circumference and you'll have a rough estimate of your speed. Assuming 6" wheels, that comes out to around 3fps. While this is very slow, you would have a lot of torque. On the other hand, bigger wheels would result in faster speeds (at the cost of torque) while smaller ones would result in even slower speeds.

thanks that really helps, we were looking at either usind the Skyway Tuff wheels or the big honking wheels that were used 2 years ago, prolly will stick with the Skyway's. Thanks again
