2. Buckeye 3. Great Lakes 4. Grand Rapids 5. St Louis Those are your midwest regionals...Michigan has some 80 teams, maybe a Columbus, OH or maybe Lafayette (Purdue University) heck or maybe even Indianapolis. That would be a much easier drive on those Michigan teams then have them go down and around Chicago. I remember at the 2002 Midwest Regional Dave Verbrugge said that it took him 6 hours to get from his home in Michigan to Chicago. Indianapolis would only be around 5 hours, plus you wouldnt have to deal with that wonderful Chicago traffic |
Instead they can just get lost by going the wrong way on 465...
6 hours isn't that bad of a drive...thats about what it is to cleveland or st louis for us... But yah indiana will be needing its own regional soon! |
I see what you mean Fluck, it would accomidate alot more teams. I just wish St. Louis wasn't so far away. For some reason our team goes to St. Louis instead of Midwest. I forgot the reason why...We did win it though this year hehe.

Heck, if we can get 50 + teams to attend the IRI in Indianapolis for an out of season competition, think we would be able to get more of that for a FIRST sanctioned regional in Indianapolis :] Maybe in a couple of years...

SigmaC@T managed to bring in 2/3 of the money needed to run the UCF Regional, not a seperate regional. However, we hope to have a South Florida Regional running here by 2005. We're currently working closely with iDen, DeVry and many other corporate sponsors to get the money together. I'm actually posting this being that we have this in our chairman's and we've told this to judges, so as far as I'm concerned...we really are working towards this. [/Begin Major Rumor time] Where it would be held still remains to be seen. Dillard HS has a pretty big Gym.... as big, if not bigger than the UCF gym. We probobly would not be able to get the Office Depot Center. It's huge, would cost waaay much, and would be beyond anything we'd need. All we need is a nice big Gym..and actually, now that I'm thinking about it, Dillard would work pretty well. If we cleared out the tables in the Cafeteria, that would be a perfect pit...maybe... The latest i heard on getting a Purdue regional here in indiana is that at the earliest we are looking at 2005. Everything is basicly planned and we have prepaired another proposal for FIRST (we submitted one last year and were turned down) and right now the Regional Subteam of our organization is in a holding patern.
I agree with david though that IRI just demonstrates the ability for Indiana to have a regional. |
