Anyone here play any instruments?

Since alot of us will be in houston, anyone want to do a jam session or a sing along?

ssjcell 31-03-2003 20:05

alota the kids on my team play instruments

Hailfire 31-03-2003 20:08

I used to play a Clarinet. But that was 4 years ago. I kinda forgot how to play it now however. Something kinda funny though, I still have the reeds from 4 years ago, somewhere.

Melissa H. 31-03-2003 20:09

I play 3 instruments...though only 1 can actually qualify as small enough to be considered a carry on...the other two...might as well ship them to Houston in the crate with the bot...they're too big...:D

DarkRedDragon 31-03-2003 20:12

ok, this good, i can sing bass, now we need a tenor, alto, and a saprano! next we need a precussionist ,gutairs (doughtfull) and a pianist!

Brandon Martus 31-03-2003 20:18

I play guitar, bass, and piano.

I won't be at Houston, though. :)

Alaina 31-03-2003 20:18

I do not want my violin to be cargo on an airplane. Who knows what would happen to it! =|
Nobody cares for violins anyway.

Joe Matt 31-03-2003 21:34

Yeah, I play Drumbone, PVC IV, Tublum, Backpack Tublum, Airpoles...

wait...

I'm not a Blue Man. :(

At least I can dream....

Ryan Dognaux 31-03-2003 21:44

I play Electric Mandolin, which probably could be a carry on since it's incredibly small. With distortion, it sounds really, really cool :) ha lemme know if you want me to bring it! I could prolly do some vocal improv too :D

evulish 31-03-2003 22:12

I can play guitar, trumpet, piano and harmonica. I suck bad at all but guitar and piano. Those two I am decent at. Those are the only two that there's no chance that they would be getting lugged onto a plane. So uhh...I can play the spoons.

and play air gutair too!
ok, yeah, either way,
I'm useless

and all my songs are pritty, er, ::shiftyeyes:: different

MikeFromTeam71 01-04-2003 07:25

i can play drums pretty good. i tried to play guitar, once............

and so we shall never speak of that incident again. ouch my freakin ears!! but yeah, drums are my instrument for sure!

Joel J 01-04-2003 09:12

I am a drummer, but more specifically I can play most percussion instruments (with the exception of the piano). Enough contradictions in that sentence? :p I would sing, but.. lets just say.. umm.. it wouldn't work out.

DarkRedDragon 01-04-2003 17:54

ok, thats good, we will have our precussionists at least!

JAH 01-04-2003 20:33

Total band geek here. I play euphonium, which is also known as a baritone or a mini tuba to those unknowing people. I am in marching band, pep band, and then a concert band. If I would have known how much I was going to like band I would have made trumpet my first instrument so I could be in jazz band. Yeah..band geek present. But as much as I love band, I love robotics more. :D

codeoftherobot 01-04-2003 21:37

I happen to play the trombone, a very peculiar but exciting instrument as my English teacher would say. I enjoy its comic sounds such as sounding like really bad farts. That's the reason why I play the trombone. My music teacher said it was the clown instrument due to its farting ability. A perfect choice for my humorous attitude. I play in a concert band which is decent expect for the numbers of trumpets who don't practice. For all of you who don't know what a trombone looks like

http://www.vireoinstruments.com/trombone.jpg

It actually has a similar mod to mine.

dlavery 01-04-2003 23:47

I am learning to play the bagpipes, just because I have always wanted to. I wouldn't subject anyone to listening to a sample of at my current "skill" level (let's just say it is very similar to the sound made by a long-tailed cat that has been sleeping too close to a rocking chair...).

But maybe by next year we could have the FIRST Pipe-and-Drum Corps?

-dave

codeoftherobot 02-04-2003 00:26

Our school has a pep band that attends just about every sporting event and rally. What the team wants is to see if we are allowed to have a band play while our robot is on the field. That would be so cool.

Josh Hambright 02-04-2003 08:30

I can play piano and i have a couple of synths.... I can play a little bass guitar...and pretend to be able to play regular guitar (TO MANY STRINGS!!)

I also play circuit bent instruments.

Well, you know what Mr.C says about singing high...

*1*:)
*2*:)
*3*:(
WOW THAT HURT!!!!!

Now we need an alto and a soprano.

No seriously I can hit most of the tenor notes even though I'm bass.

[Thought/]
Rajan can hit a high B flat without going falsetto. That's tenor for you.
[/Thought]

Now, what are we going to sing/play?

LBK Rules 02-04-2003 12:44

I play S. Violin. I am currently working on my Vivaldi Concerto in Am, 3rd Movement.

I can't wait for my Boch Double (Concerto for Two Violins) music gets here.

Ideal method of "discipline" for Misinformation to teach her to make wiser use of the photoshop program it sounds like.

*gives you a freakin' huge hug*
I love you :D

I saw this awesome violinist perform last night, Axel Strauss, he was a guest performer for the Napa Valley Symphony (I guess it pays to live it a ritzy-old-person town)...Oh man, it was breath-taking. I was about to cry...So was my sister. It was amazing.
He played "The Lark Ascending" by Ralph Vaughan Williams and "Tzigane" by Maurice Ravel.

Dirty Harry 02-04-2003 20:18

I play the piano...lol i was hoping i could find a place to practice at SVR but the piano in our hotel had two crucial keys knocked off.

alphagrl2 03-04-2003 01:34

do any guys play the trumpet?
some guy last year was playing the Godfather theme song at the Silicon Valley regional, it was really nice...

boys that play and instrument is a plus :D

codeoftherobot 03-04-2003 02:11

Yo Yo Ma has got to be the tightest celloist. That guy is so cool though he is forgetful. One time he actually left his cello in a cab on his way to a concert. That would so stink, showing up for a huge performance and, "Oops. I forget my cello." He got it back though. What we should do is bring in all our instruments with some prearranged pep band music. Have a specific song for each team. Sounds crazy but it could work.

hacksaw692 03-04-2003 02:29

I can sing soprano, but I harmonize pretty well too. I'm up for doing an ensemble. Now, if only I could get rid of my cold/allergies. Do you know how hard it is to sing when you're coughing every 5 bars? sheesh...

yeah, i have a cold, its even worse singing bass, i cant get the right notes. oh well, just take lots of meds and ull be ok

OneAngryDaisy 03-04-2003 23:46

Dude, i can make the best beat-box noises.. We should get some rap going- bling blings and all..

Amber H. 04-04-2003 00:02

Dave lavery on bagpipes!!!!!!!!!
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. My father is scottish and I grew up hearing nothing but the pipes and drums (which probably explains a few disturbing traits in my personality).
No, really, Bagpipes are great....outdoors and several hundred yards away.....

I sing soprano and in a pinch with the opera company I was in, could do a decent alto.
I also play harmonica, and am re-learning to play piano (I quit about the same time I quit composing).

Unfortunately I will have to save my efforts for the "Stay Home Band".
I will miss going to Huston as well.

DarkRedDragon 05-04-2003 22:50

hmmm... anyone up for singing Bohemian Rhapsody by queen?

Da SPAMinatress 05-04-2003 23:44

yes

DarkRedDragon 06-04-2003 10:32

SWEET!

mgreenley 06-04-2003 11:55

Sure!!

I know the words, and wouldn't it be cool to tweak the hi/low on dougs amp to blank out the voices on the cd i'll undoubtably bring= major decibel karayoke! (I gave up on spelling years ago)

EddieMcD 06-04-2003 16:40

I play the flute... er, used too. I really haven't played since I decided against being in band this year, but I'm still pretty good. I'm also pretty good on a keyboard and any of the bells (vibrophone, marimba, etc.). Unfortunately, I'm not at nationals this year, but next year, I swear I'll be there!

tatsak42 06-04-2003 17:11

easy come easy go willl you let me go bismillah no, we will not let you go (let him go)......

ah yes, we did that at our regionals in one of the vans, people wanted to start punching us i think... so we went to "another one bites the dust." and then a bunch of 80s music, including rock the casbah :D

and as for instruments, I play the piano and the clarinet. :D just got done with All-State Band.

How do you know when it's time to tune your bagpipes?
When someone is blowing on it.

Why do bagpipers walk while playing?
It's harder to miss a moving target.

Thank you for talking to Daily Breeze!

Oh goody, goody! May I join in?

The classics never die!

P.S.
CHeryl, your commentary on the bagpipes is so true, so true.

Elyse Holguin 09-04-2003 15:03

i was the first chair clarinet in gavit high school's band before i got fed up with our director and quit.... i also am in girl's show chorus and am a second soprano/alto.... i have a bid for woodmar singers, but right now let's just see if i can get my voice back! :p i better not have to give up my solo for the spring concert!

ellenchisa 28-04-2003 20:05

I play the clarinet, but nats are kinda over now.. hahaha... like my parents would let me take it to Houston...
