Dance Dance Revolution
Well, I searched for some threads about DDR but didn't really see too many.. so I made a new one :) Who here on the Chief plays DDR?? I started not too long ago.. it is so fun :) All you people who live near a machine, go play it!! I've been learnin on the 7th mix here, what do your arcades have?
|
In our hotel, we carried 2 PS2's, 1 XBOX and one Gamecube. On the PS2 we had DDR going for hours. Along with that were Halo tournaments that lasted even longer and the Gamecube was taken by a person who wanted to play the new Zelda for hours straight. We also had SSBM but Halo and DDR were by far the favs of everyone in our hotel.
|
Awesome! Halo is cool, and so is DDR. Where were you guys at??? And will you be at Nationals? lol We are staying at :looks up hotel's name: "Spring Hill Suites" apparently. So if you have DDR and you're staying there, PM me or something :)
|
DDR! Haven't played in a while...but if anyone has it and is going to Houston, I'm all for it:p

ive played ddr fusion before, fun, my feet hurt after that! as for the halo game, if anyone brings an x-box, i will be there, and just for u to think about, tank sniping in blood gulch!
|
DDR Max here! I don't own a PS2 (I own an X-Box) but I have played DDR Max for PS2 and it's awsome!
Long Live DDR! (P.S. I have never played Halo, and I own an X-Box. How sad..:( ) |
All of my friends have been trying to get me to play DDR...but personaly i think it violates the basic rules of video games...much like the nintendo power pad... I am lazy, i play video games to pretend i can do amazing things...my fingers are fast not my feet!
|
Woo hoo! DDR! I bought a PS2 a few weeks ago just so I could own DDR Max ... If anyone is staying at the Residence Inn on (south Main Street) come visit and we'll play! :)
- Katie |
ha that'd be cool if someone somehow set it up in the pit area... although I know how the pits were at some regionals, insanely crowded! Just an Idea :D
|
I have Konamix for our PSX, and one day, I may just end up with DDRMAX for our PS2.
But, really, I spend most of my playing time at the arcade, camped out on their 5th Mix machine. I'll play the MAX machine once in a while, but I don't really like its music as much. I spend too much money on DDR. Much, much too much. |
Sigh. Friday night during the Annapolis Regional, our team went over to the Annapolis Mall. The students headed for the arcade, so some of us adults followed. I got to see them play one of those dance games; I think it was called Pump It Up or something like that. After watching for a bit, I tried to sneak quietly away, but no, they caught me. And forced me to play it. Sigh. I have to track down the brat who had a camera that night. At least they got a really good laugh out of it. For me it was more embarrassing than falling at the bowling alley during the Richmond Regional. I am tempted to buy DDR so I can learn it and show them a thing or two... sigh.
On another note, they made me play Halo last weekend at one of the student’s birthday party (yes, for some strange reason they love to invite me to their birthday parties). It was a 12-player game and where I made an easy target for them, I wasn't the worse player, I think that honor went to the Great Lev! MissInformation <============> Don't think I don't see the irony of my middle name meaning "full of grace" |
LoL Pump It Up is okay, but play DDR if you get the chance. Don't feel bad lol everyone has to start somewhere :D
I've only played DDR on arcade since I don't have a PS2, within the past 3 days I've probably spent around 5 dollars on DDR alone. In my opinion, money not wasted. ;) |
AHHHHH!!!!! I hate that game so much My sister got it for her birthday and has not stopped playing it, The pounding never stops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ahh......no DDR...... i refuse to let DDR be run on Clark and I's PS2... that game totally defeats the purpose of video games... even though the music isnt that bad
|
We had DDR at UCF but stopped playing when we got a noise complaint. Personally I'm horrible at it. For those on the lazier side there is a ddr emulator called Dance With Intensity you play with the arrow keys. Amazingly addictive and its fun to show off when you can do 10 step songs at blindingly fast speed.
|
A couple of people on my team play it...They have all the songs from it on a CD...It was played constantly at meetings, and they'd even dance to it...I, on the other hand, can't stand it...
|
ddr takes too much brainpower...
|

but even still. . . before the season started and I had some free time, I'd spend anywhere between $30-$40 a week. ...the wonders of disposable income. |
Wahoo! DDR RULES!!!! Im the guy who was running the DDR show for Jesuit High School Team 1097 lol...I dont think i could have survived without video games. Whats funny is that my team has no idea how bad I am compared to some other people, I guess they were all just amazed to see a DDR high.
|
LOL so who's bringing DDR to nats again? lol that would be awesome if we could get something set up...
DDR here costs 50 cents for 3 songs - not too bad :) Quote:
|
Anyone bringing it to Nats??
|
if you want to make some money, have an arcade loan you the latest ddr machine and find some way of transporting it to nationals. then charge about 25 cents more for the dances (make up an excuse for the price) then after a little while you've made profit then don't return it to the arcade and you have yourself a machine.:D

After awhile, when you get used to picking up the rhythm and pattern of the songs and the arrows, you don't even need to pay attention to the screen anymore. The only thing I watch for are the changes. Most songs have reasonably good flow and they're really, really easy to pick up and just run with. |
Quote:
|
hm... maybe i should pick up DDR at fry's and give it a whirl.
|

Also, DDR is awesome, but I couldn't imagine paying more than $100 for it. I convinced my parents to buy it as a way to exercise and a familiy activity- for $75 (including two pads) ...And I've been addicted since, but without a single $ from my wallet. |
In music you have a time signature and rhythm that is shown at the beginning and throughout a piece of music. by using constant counting and knowing when beats normally begin, you can calculate what the next note might be. many of the most popular songs have been compared mathematically and found to be almost alike from Bach to U2.
|
I haven't really ever played ddr but i went to the mall today with raul and the chaz. Some how they talked me into a song...i sucked pretty bad but am definitely willing to try it again. I even am trying to get my brother at rose hulman to loan me his dance pad and the game and am downloading the computer version as we speak. I shall give it a shot...

Heh....i would take DDR to nationals....but the problem is we're not GOING. Oh well.
Hey and some advice to anyone just starting out in DDR...dont be embarrassed to play, ask good players for tips, and most importantly, watch how they play. The computer DDR sims are also great tools for beginners, they're really good practice for arrow reading. |
Finally some people that understand the addiction known as DDR. There is no game quite like DDR and the atmosphere of getting alot of people who play it together.
on a sidenote: max unlimited, waka laka, and max 300 in the same 3 song set. most painful fun evar:yikes: |
Amen to that, brother!
More advice to beginners: Don't stay in the middle, pivot whenever possible, and try to listen to the msuic and get a feel for the rhythm and beat. |
I just started about a month (+) ago.. yeah definately don't keep your feet in the middle of the pad, that's what I did and it really screwed me up when I tried to go to faster songs. I still have the tendancy to do that every now and then...
Oh yeah, just do songs that you like , the point of DDR is to have fun... I probably will never ever try to do max 300 or max unlimited just due to the fact that I wouldn't find them fun. Songs like Cowgirl and Candy are my kinda songs :D |
yes!! ddr is the best!! granted, i suck... but i love making a fool of myself in front of large groups of people...
and i'm so proud of myself because i recieved my highest score of a B on a 4 on friday night of nationals...woopwoop go me! in amongst all of the excitment i fell off the bed... but i still got a B!! :yikes: |

Did anyone go and play the arcade machine at The Galleria?? A few people from my team did.. other than the left pad being messed up, it was great fun :) |
our team went bowling with team 179 and as soon as people got there they were playing DDR. then when we were done bowling they were back in there playing again. i didn't play but it was fun watching everyone else (especially Teresa!! lol):D
|
Quote:
and i've never played on one in an arcade, i've only ever played on my friends' pads.... plus, i pressed the wrong button it was still fun making a complete fool of myself in front of everyone else!! bah, i live for it  |
man it sucks to go from pads to the arcade version, It took me a couple songs to get a hang of it, though the back bar does come in handy.

![]() I am a DDRfreak. Its fun. Unfortunatly, (fortunatly for my wallet) the closest DDR machine is a MAX2 (Extreme upgrade on the way) 40 minutes from my house, so I only spend $20 or so every few weeks.(50cent three songs) The Pump-It-Up 5 minutes from my house, however, I play alot. 75cents for three songs, but I A them and get 4. still 75cents for doing doubble...I still get real dizzy after doing Bethoveen's virus doubbles.... There was a 5th mix in LA that was 25cents for three songs. Very cool, the owner said he bought it for himself and kids, and put it in his store to make a little extra money. Simulator Dance With Intensity I've 398 songs, including all the offical songs/steps. PS->USB converters(2) CHECK! Wetzel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Havn't played in almost a week, becoming delierious. |

Last...I think....weekend I spent $12 at the arcade...well at the mall. I think I bought one of the 4 dollar cookies as well...those are good :D . DDR is great, without it I'd probably be bored a lot more than I am now. |
Re: Dance Dance Revolution
BUMP!!
I'd just thought I'd bump this thread up to see how people are coming along with the Dance Dance Revolution craze. Obivously we can't play it very much during the build, but for all those DDR Freaks out there, this thread is for you :) Opinions, questions, comments - post it all here :] |
Re: Dance Dance Revolution
I am sad to say that I am perhaps one of the few Asians that has NOT played DDR ever. No real reason why. The songs are pretty good though.

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
I love DDR - I've been playing for about 2 years but I haven't played in about a month :( . I know it's a bit early, but is anyone planning on bringing DDR to Atlanta? I was also thinking that maybe on Thursday night we could go to the International Bowling Arcade (they have an Extreme). I'm glad there are people I can talk about DDR and Robotics with :D (some of my friends like DDR, but it's so hard for me to explain FIRST and the competition to them).

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
I haven't played any DDR in weeks...But I listen to my 6th mix CD just about every day...

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
Mmm...DDR. FFR is a substitute that does well enough when you don't have a pad anywhere's close by but you have a computer. I suck at DDR...I think I'm actually better at FFR...by a lot. My fingers go faster than my feet.

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
I recently started playing DDR. I have to admit I had my doubts when I started but after I get in to it, it's quite fun. I also (about a week ago) passed my first 4 foot song. The machine I use is 4 songs for 50 cents, so we usually play doubles so each person only pays a quarter.

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
I love DDR it so much fun. Another girl and me always goes somewhere to play it. I'm not too good at it. But I'm thinking of buying a thing similar to DDR where I could just play it at home, it's easier to be silly w/o making a fool of yourself in front of like total strangers.

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
Wow every now and then it seems this thread just gets bumped back up :)
For the computer, you can get stepmania.. it's just DDR on your computer, and you can download the song/step files from IRC. Once you do that, you can get a PS -> USB Convertor that's supported by Stepmania, and actually play DDR w/ a pad on your computer with every song from every mix, for free It's a pretty sweet deal :) Also just wondering.. is anyone into other Bemani (music) games?? I'm a fan of Beatmania, AKA IIDX. It's a game where you have a turn table and 7 keys, and you press the keys/turn the turntable when little bars come down from the top of the screen. Like DDR, it's also very addicting, but hasn't been released in America yet. |

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
Although I haven't actually played the game, I absolutely love the music. They have some of the best stuff that I've ever heard! I'd like to get the "full-song soundtrack", but I don't know where to find it. I've seen the soundtracks that only have the bits of the songs in the game, but I want the "full song" versions. Can anyone help me?
|
Re: Dance Dance Revolution
I would like to say that I am completely horrible at DDR... But I love it so much... I am better free stlying it!!!
|
Re: Dance Dance Revolution
Well, I enjoy it, but there AREN'T ANY ARCADES NEARBY PERIOD!!! LET ALONE ONES THAT HAVE A DDR MACHINE!!! I love the feel of a metal pad beneath my feet, the crowd around me as I enter combat; man vs. machine...a true test of strength, endurance, and agility.
OK...perhaps I'm a little obsessed....but I enjoy it, and I'm working on improving my game too. |
Re: Dance Dance Revolution
Holy 2 year old thread revival batman!! :p:D

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
I tried DDR twice, once when I was in Toronto visiting relatives, and a second time a couple years later on a PE trip to a bowling alley. Especially on the PE trip I had a huge problem that hindered my playing, my feet are way too big for those itty bitty squares. I kept accidentally triggering squares I didn't want to. By the way, friendly piece of advice, don't play DDR with razor blades in your pocket, I knew a kid who did, he was limping for the next few days.
|
Re: Dance Dance Revolution
Ouch......razor blades?
That must've hurt. |

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
*raises her hand* I play DDR. At least until my PS2 broke ~_~ Stupid brothers. Breaking my PS2...*sniffles*
*ahem* Well anyway, I hate to say this, but I'm really really good at DDR. Like Heavy/Challenge mode-ish. I really like DDR a lot, 'tis fun! *hums along to a random song* |
Re: Dance Dance Revolution
DDR!!! our team (or at least a good portion of it) worships DDR. After almost every first event we either party by going to the Ground Round or playing DDR (or both) and yes, as some people mentioned we brought some mats to Atlanta. as for Halo. That game is also awesome, having a PS2 myself, though, makes me a n00b at Halo whereas on DDR i can pass songs on standard, any mix, not any song.
