In reference to the driving of Team 25

Hi, i know that i dont post often, i really just like to read what other people write. But, as i have been browsing through the forums lately i noticed that a lot of the teams that were at the JnJ regional were complimenting the driving of Team 25's robot, and as the driver i would just like to thank all of you. Really, but I don't want to take sole credit for the amazing job that we did, if anything, I would like to take the time out and thank the lead programmer of the robot, for creating such a great autonomous mode and for adding in all the little things that make the robot a dream to drive. I would also like to point out that the great manuvering of the robot could not have been possible without the help of my two coaches, yes two, our robot is only operated by one driver. I just wanted to let everyone know that it wasn't just ONE awesome driver that made our machine so successful, I just wanted to let everyone know that it takes more than just one person to accomplish things. And as any driver knows, they can't always do everything on their own, they need reliable guidance from people that they trust.
Just wanted to say my thanks and give notice to a couple of people that get over looked when talking about the control of the robot. Thanks guys...

I was just joking with ssjcell. We are fast, very fast.

Nice bot...

Hey guys, I was at annapolis and stopped by Rutgers on Saturday and have one thing to say, awesome bot. I was able to get a closer look at everything (Thanks for showin us the gearbox guys) and it is one nicely machined bot.

You have a well rounded robot, it can go fast, it is strong, has a great autonomous and your driver can really think on his feet. I commend you all for the efforts you put into your 'bot.

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in here.

The Chinese Guy 08-04-2003 21:10

Tom rocks! So does Steve and other senior on team 25 :)

galewind 08-04-2003 21:51

Hey,

did you intentionally slam your bot into the wall of the opposing team's station once or twice throughout the competition to intimidate them? It certainly looked that way. I laughed when I saw it happen once.

But then again, i'm assuming that's because I wasn't the ones that had 130lbs of brute force slamming into them at exceptional speed.

Hehe, I like it too...its fuuunnyyy.

Goober65 08-04-2003 22:47

Yeah, um...as to hitting the player station once or twice during the finals.....i know that the one time was by accident, i thought i was going forward, and when i didnt see it, i thought to myself, where is it?!?!?!?! and at the point, i heard a loud crash as it hit the station at full speed and then said, oh...there it is....so, it actuality, it was a mistake, but sometimes, i like to do it just to intimidate them ;)

and Matt, ur right, im ALMOST perfect...just gotta try and flip us back over when we are flipped, but so far, we have not had the chance to do so...

lol, i thought i should post this up too, as some of my fellow team mates tell me i smashed through a box while going under the bar, and to their suprise, no pause, no delay, no sound, just the box exploding...here's a pic.

i loved seeing the boxes break, and as one of the engineers who volunteered as a ref said, everytime we came out, they would tell them to get some extra boxes ready to replace. hehe =)

I don't know if you've been behind the player station at one of these comps this year but I would have to say this is the most driver unfriendly competition yet. If you have a big robot, there is no issue in finding it on the playing field. But, if you have a short robot, Like 25, you know it's easy to lose sight or direction of your robot. Especially at the speed that thing moves.
That's the main reason we took off our stacker & put on the giant sign.

Anyone care to post some info/pictures on 25's drive train?

Motors?

Shifting?

OneAngryDaisy 14-04-2003 18:44

Here's a picture of their gearbox:

As I didn't go to Annapolis I'm really looking forward to seeing this robot at off-season competitions.. Where will you guys be going? We'll probably be at the Md. State Fair, PARC, Duel on the Delaware, Ramp Riot, and Brunswick Eruption..

team 25's drive train has been called by others , your standard issue Lego Drive Train

It is capable of mounting motors in 24 different locations and still maintain a 4:1 Gear Ratio

This year we used the chips and drills but as i said there is room for more :D

i guess it doesnt have a shifter but it had 2 speeds Fast and What the heck was that

Unfourtunaly the pic and what i have told you really doesnt go into detail on how this was designed or implimented it was originally designed to be completly modular, a 5 minute quick change, but our robot was built ontop of it instead:p

Hope i helped you out, you got anymore questions feel free to Im me on AIm or somthing :)

Ah, $@#$@#$@#$@#, thats too bad, we'll be going to delaware, ramp riot, and penn. but it sucks that we wont be going to brunswick eruption this year

DougHogg 14-04-2003 19:31

Wow, very cool.

Thanks for the picture and the data.

I would like to get a look at this robot up close one day.

What? I was assuming you guys were gonna host it again this year?

Austin 14-04-2003 19:53

that drivetrain is freakin' awesome! also, (goober65) i really appreciate your humility...most people on this forum are just really egotistical! Even i can be sometimes...but i try to restrain myself most of the time! ;)

this year the fun goes to 303's house. Of course we'll be there both as a playing team and helper. My guys are just busting your chops!!

Ben Mitchell 14-04-2003 21:43

And let me assure you, Team 303 is purring with anticipation for this event.

With regards to 25's driving, I was amazed. There was one particular match in which Steve cleared out the opposing zone, pushed bins back over the ramp three or four times, and did a cool under the bar manuver to crash a 4 stack, before charging the ramp.

He did it with such skill and grace that I cried, and I am not ashamed of that.

Marc P. 14-04-2003 23:09

I posted this in the favorite bot thread, but I think it's a cool picture of 25-
