If anyone saw 494's "Torque Tester" at Nationals, it was pretty cool. We tested our robot on it.. but I'm not sure what it read.. if anyone can remember what team 234's robot read and post it here that'd be cool...

Anyways, apparently we had an insane amount of power, and I already knew we had a lot. It's just that a top heavy robot and a powerful drive aren't the best combo. Some of the robots we pushed include 245 and 71... too bad we didn't get a chance to up against 25, I would've really liked to see that :)

Edit : I just got the numbers from a team member, apparently we have around 168 ft/lbs of power but only around 1 ft. per second. Hopefully we can get the speed issue changed during the off season.

Unfortunately, our robot was only running on CIMs for most of the National competition, due to problems with the drill motor transmissions, but I am going to have to put the vote in for our team. During the Seattle regional, there were no teams that even compared to the power and traction we had. We also had close to the fastest autonomous mode there.

The only time we were unable to push another robot was when it had its suction cups down on the top of the ramp.

We also never took any structural damage to our robot and never flipped over.

I am willing to bet that with all our motors working, our robot could have pushed around any robot there (with the possible exception of other robots with tank treads like the technokats.)

Next year, we definitely aren't going to go with the stock drill motor trannies/mounts.

P.S. How many robots have you seen been able to push robots up the ramp sideways?

I remember at least twice we pushed a robot sideways up the ramp.

Toughest Bot...

In my opinion, our bot was pretty tough. We could go really fast, we didn't get pushed around that much, and (other than our malfunction in the elimination matches at nats) we were pretty consistent in our strength.
There were robots there, however, that I was pretty sure we would have had a hard time moving in the finals...

25 and 111 were definitely a tough bots. i was kinda hoping to see what would happen if 25 ran up one of 111's ramps at the top of the mesh. i wonder how much air 25 would get. talk about frequent flier miles!!

we could do that

bah

don't forget about the little Claw of 222.....it took the shippers to finally break our machine and as for power you'll just hafta find out yourself. hahaha

I always thought our mobile battering ram was pretty tough.

i saw team 691 go, their robot took the biggest beating i have ever seen, i saw dents in what looked like 1/8th inch steel.

27's creation this year might be considered for this. We took an incredible beating this year and came out in one piece. The chasis and arm designs proved to be robust. The chains had come off the sprockets a few times, but alwaays derailled to the inside of the wheel and kept on providing power. The most damage we sustained was from our own mistake during the final match in Ypsi. The auton mode malfuntioned and the bot nailed the arm right into the limbo pipe, bending it. We did not see any damage from another robot.

The drivetrain proved equally robust. The dual motor drive with shifting ran efficiently and very powerfully. We put the bot on the Martin(494) dyno and pegged the needle in low. High gearf was off the scale. We are over 14 ft/sec in high, and around 8 ft/sec in low. We had one of the fastest auton modes this season. The only faster ones were Baxter(16) and sometimes the ThunderChickens(217). Over all I am very satisfiyed with how well this bot lived up to the tasks at hand. The best aspect, howevr, is the enormus effort the students put into the design and build of this bot. We would have had a much harder time building such a dependable machine without them.

i would have to say a few of the strongest bots were 469 las guerrillas and 45 techno cats. guerrillas had an awesome tansmission once again this year. this year they implemented the 4 motor transmission and it gave them huge power and huge speed. im really proud of their accomplishments this season and they did a great job. and to 45, always, what a great strong robust drive and transmission. they are always fast and always strong and can take on any other bot out there.

Matt Reiland 29-04-2003 14:18

I think the strongest robot that I saw out there was 902, they easily pushed any robot off the top, suction traction what ever no problem for that little tank bot.
