Hotel Horror Stories
We stayed at a Comfort Inn for Pheonix Regionals **it was actually a pretty nice hotel** From the first day we got there, the head manager didn't like us. We were supposed to have like 12 rooms reserved for the team... there are over 30 of us... but the manager only reserved 8, so our head mentor had to pay for his own room...somewhere around $200 for the two nights. Then, there was another all boy team there from North Dakota and no offense to those North Dakotan Cuties, but they weren't exactly on their best behavior...Everything they did that was mischeivous...my team got blamed for!! (That manager had it out for us from the start!) Then horror of all horrors...a few of us were being kinda loud in our room and at about 1 a.m. one of the mentors from their team (they were in the room next to us) came and just barged in to our room without permission and threatened to go to the manager if we didn't shut up!! She must have been almost 50... AND SHE WAS BARELY DRESSED!! oh it was bad!! I pray no one else ever has to see that... But hey, the water was clear and the pool worked so it wasn't all bad;)
|
that's majorly harsh.
Yeah, the most horrifying thing about our hotel was the "computer room" as they called it. HA! more like computer closet. And it had one computer- windows 95 - 56K - with... AOL! I almost died. |
Our Hojo Express had a computer...it ran Linux *g* :) I already posted the horror stories in 'Hojo Express' :D
|
A hotel which will remain nameless had brown water running out of the faucet, a cold pool, a broken elevator (for maybe 12 or so hours), interesting food..., and broken vending machines that ate up all of my quarters. But otherwise, it was fine.
|
eeeewwwww!! Brown water!!:ahh:
|
we stayed in i think it was the ramada on katy freeway in Houston this year. they told us it was nice and right by the galleria... right. when gwen and i turned on our heating-cooling unit, it shot 2-foot purple flames, melting all its own wires! then they moved us to another room. the water ran brown, water gushed out of the mini-bar, we had to take $20 collateral to the front desk to make a calling card call, the floors were sticky, the keys didn't work, everything smelled bad, we were in an incredibly sketch neighborhood across the street from a half-abandoned strip mall, and we couldn't use the pool the whole time we were there because there were weird toxic chemicals. to top it off, a room for 4 was almost $300 a night and we were a good 45 minute ride from the stadium. w00t.
|
what hotel was that again...so i know never to stay there... you should see the look on my face right now... :ahh:
|
The pool at the Doubletree Post Oak Hotel in Houston was NOT filled!!!!! What the crap?!!?
   |
The pool at the Hojo was filled...and INSANELY COLD! I went in the first night I got there...brr. I got in the next time a few days later fully clothed. Still cold...but I had more insulation :P (BTW...Converse All-Star Hi-tops aka Chucks don't make very good flippers)

a lot of the rooms also had plumbing problems... ours didn't tho. and the ceiling above the shower looked like it was about to fall.. the tv's were bolted down, so we had to turn the cabinet it was on around so we could play ddr... in amongst all of that excitement of playing ddr, i jumped on the bed and tried to turn, landed partly on the other girl on the bed, and as i sat back and laughed at myself, i fell off the bed nailing the wall and then the floor... i have a very large bruise on my lower back now... and yet again, i provide amusement for being clumsy ...and there was nothing good on tv... lol, although we found like, 4 spanish soap operas that i was "translating". oh, there was no ice in the ice machines ..i can't think of anything else right now |
How about breakfast?
It basically consisted of bread formed in different ways, plus a little juice and fruit. I hate continental breakfast >:( |

OH, SO YOU DON'T WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW IT WAS THE RADISSON ASTRODOME HOTEL? OK, I'LL KEEP IT QUIET He, He:D In all honesty though it wasn't that bad... of all of our teams rooms, one (mine) didn't have brown water (phew) P.S. You forgot... the hot tub was colder than the pool (people tell me) and both were suspect of being ditches flooded with sewage. |
Well, the Demolition Squad (267) stayed in the Renaissance Houston Hotel, and we were all really psyched for the "jacuzzi and indoor pool." On Wednesday night, three of us walked around the hotel for an hour looking for the supposed indoor pool and jacuzzi, but we could only find one outdoor freezing cold pool. Finally, we asked the front desk where the indoor pool was, then they simply replied with "oh, we are renovating and were are GOING to have an indoor pool and jacuzzi, so we just put it on the brochure now." Talk about a con! Oh well, we just hung out at Heatwave's hotel instead...it worked out better in the end. :D

No, it wasn't the Radisson Astrodome Hotel...it was a different hotel...still nameless though... The water restored itself to a "normal" color after we ran it for a minute or so:p |
In the Best Western we played frisbee in the hall... It hit the fire alarm... It sounded, we went outside, then got the all clear... Then for the next hour it kept going off...
|
Pin Man: Your team played capture the flag with mines one of the nights...:D
|
yeah we had a huge game going
|
Yup. I couldn't catch one of your team members with my flip flops on, so I took them off and ran on the parking lot barefoot...ended up sending him to my team's prison...but it wasn't the best idea b/c I ended up pulling a muscle in my foot...weird but true...:)
|
wow, i was in the radisson too, i was being a major pain, u know that one elevator that worked? we when some people on my team used it i ran to all the floors inbetween the destination, and hit all the buttons, they needlessly had a loong trip, lol. But i kind of joined into the game, but i was mostly at six flags most of the time. Anyone go swimming? i was nicknamed the dolphin, for i was the only person crazy enough to go swimming at 10 pm, ahh that was refreshing. Also, i think i saw u tetra

were u on the 4th floor? |
You took a shower in the pool?! :D
|
i was at the same hotel as team 341 and i had all the same problems that they have expressed here, the hot tub was colder that the pool, the hotel its self was like a maze, the elevators were really bad, someone from another team i had never met asked me to ride down with them cause thy were scared of getting trapped in there, only 4 people could get in one at a time and when some members of my team challenged this they got stuck, than Saturday night some of my mentors got stuck in on out side my room at 12:30 at night for about 15 min. it was one of the funniest things ever but still wrong on the hotels part, but i still had alot of fun and i wanted to say sorry to miss daisy for waking you up so late on Saturday night when we were yelling to our mentors stuck in the elevator.

Our Hotel wasn't THAT bad, I mean we only had a shower that you could piss faster than, to quote my teacher, water that fluckchuated(sp?), no cold, only scalding hot water, a pool with plastic bags floating in it for 4 days straight, cop cars that came by at liek 3 am, water that was brown in some of the rooms to begin with, toliets that had trouble flushing, people calling our rooms at 3 am, bedsheets that where never changed, no maids that came by 2 of the days, detergant that half of our team had a allergic reaction too, small butt rooms and beds (I slept on the table one night, it was only like 3 feet by 3 feet, that was some funny $@#$@#$@#$@#, ask Tella on OakRidge), and a "free Breakfast" that consisted of just doughnuts, and make your own coffee and tea. Bahhh. Not to mention that ours wasn't in indoor hotel, it was the ones where you are outside if you out your room, air conditionings that turned on by thenselves, no elevators, (I had to carry half of the girls crud up the stairs cause they couldn't managae) and some other stuff, liek key cards that didn't work half of the time...::Sigh:: Oh yea! The Bathroom doors didn't have locks.....UBER DISCUSTING! Don't believe that they were small, ask Jared form HeatWave, he stopped by one night...oh yea, no free room to room calling, and about a 18% tax on the room that came to around liek 500$ BAHHHH
|
This isn't really a horror story, but, at the Best Western Hotel, my 3 room mates (I won't say who) decided to play a prank to our team members next door. What they did was they took the Iron and at night, they swung the cord and hit the door in the back several times making it sound like something was outside. While this was happening, I was trying to sleep. This was about 11:00 at night. In addition to this, they were planning to play another prank the next night but they didn't do as planned luckily.
Melissa, you should know what I'm talking about. ;) |

Who did you chase tetra??? because it was a girl that threw it...

For all of you who have and will post here, what was your hotel rated at on the 1-5 star system???
The Omni Houston at 4 Riverway was rated at 5 stars but the service we got was far from 5 star.. We arrived at the hotel at check in time on Wednesday, 1:00 and we were told that our rooms weren't ready. So we decided to walk to attempt to find a place to eat. (Two story McDonalds where I won $12.00 and change and two McD's toys!! lol I can't say what I did to win this though so don't ask.) (well.... can't say it on the public forums anyways, ask me in the off season, or the next time you happen to see me.) hehehehehe Anyways, we get back to our hotel after 1.5 hrs, time being now ~2:30. Our rooms are still not ready... We hang out some more, try to not get into any trouble...(HA) and finally at 5:00(I think) we are told that our rooms are ready. Get in our room, and what do we have, our beds are still not totally made, and a case full of drinks was left out (under lock and key) that shouldn't have been in a room that would be occupied with minors (this situation was sort of rectified the next day) The pool was heated (thankfully) and was ok, except they cut the grass one day and the pool, was full of grass so I decided to jump in the other pool, and found out that it wasn't heated (brrr) We had an issue with our BOM during thursday's inspection and had to get it faxed to us. We had somoene go back to the hotel and get a fax number and fax it to them. We were told that the fax had not come in so we faxed it again, again nothing... Getting irritated we talked to an official that remembered us from NYC and straightened everything out, thankfully. I paid 13 bucks for a reuben sandwich and another person paid 30 for a 16 ounce steak (to put this in perspective, think of your 20oz soda and think smaller content value) Coffee I guess just plain sucked and I did the math and If I had wanted just a glass of OJ in the morning, it would have cost me like 10-15 dollars to have it brought to my room. The last problems were when we checked out and one room was charged $60 for a meal that was eaten while all the inhabitants of that room and most or all other team members were at the competition. Then as we were on the bus to leave that god awful place 3 of our advisors went back in the hotel and were told that 60 (count em' 6-0) robes were supposedly taken from the rooms after they did an inventory of their stuff, even though we had just left our rooms maybe 10-15 minutes earlier and there was no sign of maids anywhere. That fact along with the fact that mathmatically every person from our team would have to had taken 2 robes each made that accusation very shady. Ok, I'm done ranting... I need to find another thread now to complain about the bus transportation system.. or lack there of. And remember kids, 5 star hotels are not always what they are cracked up to be.. |

Hailfire: That was you guys?! (j/k) Katie totally freaked out and claimed she heard a mouse :D Just watch, we'll get you at the next competition...:)
|
ok... there's an entire thread dedicated to the radisson astrodome.... i know chief delphi and us contacted the corporate offices on them.... it was seriously a major health hazard: my roomate and i have terrible allergies and there was about 1/8 in . of mold in the vents, not to mention the super-sized roaches that we decided to catch and send to the corprate offices to show what we were finding in our rooms. we slept with bandannas (more mad love to wildstang and autodesk) over our faces and with the lights on.... terrible i tell you, not to mention the nasty as all... yeah.. service and water and food and COLD tub, but we were throwing all our team into the pool the last night even though we probably could have gone fishing in it. (cybersonics- you guys rock for helping us!) the elevators sucked, there were spiders in our bed, stucco falling on us, stains everywhere, and the only way we were able to tolerate the smell was with the air freshener our team always brings as a joke for the guys rooms after they do their business. so yeah.... radisson astrodome sucked some major big ones.

I thought that that wierd place across the street from our hotel with the big sign written in blood-like texture labeled "PHOBIA" was wierd. I swear that was some kind of drug trafficing center. The place really gave me the chills. Oh on an unrelated note, the Detroit Red Wings were just sweeped 4-0 by the Mighty Ducks. YAY!! :D |
We were staying at the doubletree in sacramento, and we were all like "It's the doubletree, right? so it's gonna be really nice, right? so it'd better have a gym, RIGHT?"
we got there, and we got to the "exercise room" and it was basically an enclosed area, with LOTS of towels, a couple treadmills, and ONE weight machine. some exercise room. we didn't bother to check the pool. though i assume it would have been filled ;) |
we stayed at best western, which wasn't bad. but the elevator there is without a doubt the slowest one on the planet.
|
Which Best Western??? Greenway???

D.J., trust me, they couldn't pay me enough money to get me to stay there again. If by some rare chance 71 waits til the last minute next year and has to, i'll get my mom to get me to stay with her (because i'd drag her to houston) at another hotel. |
I'm still trying to figure out what was in the mystery safe that was in our room. I wanted to use it to keep all of our kids money and tickets but they didn't have a key and when I asked for one they took it out of our room so it wouldn't bother me any longer.

Radisson Astrodome
I too stayed at the Radisson Astrodome.
Did any of you notice that the hotel is shaped like a cowboy? Uh yeah... We also found a cockroach. One of the members on our team put it into a cup and returned it to the frontdesk, hehehe. -Jessica |
At regionals, four people were staying in a room and the AC didn't work. They were complaining so much that I went in there and sure enough, it was like a hundred and one degrees in there. When we were picking our rooms for nationals, one of them dropped out and all of the people who were in my room dropped out too because they couldn't go. So, I went with the three remaining. The first night, it started to seem kind of hot. I went over to the AC controls. It was set to high heat.

Team 245 stayed at the Doubletree Hotel at Allen Center. It was a really nice place, except for the fact that it was in the middle of the business district of Houston (not too much fun stuff around it), and the fact that it had no pool. The hotel really proved how quality it was when it found my retainer that I had left, and Fedexed it back to me. They saved me like $300.
|
Well my hotel The Holiday Inn Astrodome was ok by some of these other hotels. It still sucked though. The pool closed at ten. There was nothing to do for entertainment in the area. 40 minute bus rides to the galleria. Major road construction right outside. They hired a security guard special just to wander the halls enforcing their 0 tolerence policy that it seemed they just created. And the elevators were quite iffy. The breakfast sucked. The first morning they told like half the team that there was a free buffet after we had all ordered/gotten our meals. The buffet consisted of powdered instant scrambled eggs, really hard crunchy bacon, potatoes, and biscuits. You also only got one glass of juice and had to pay for any refills after that. The only good part about the hotel was the Toys R' Us and Fiesta both next door.

At least you had rooms....
Our team got to the Best Western Park Place in the evening to find that, although we had prepaid for 16 rooms, the hotel only had 13 available. After some heated discussion with the front desk, who had no idea what they were doing, three rooms miraculously appeared and we sent the team to their assigned places.
Twenty minutes later we were back in the lobby. It turns out that one of the rooms had an old lady sleeping in it. Since nobody answered the door or the phone the management burst in the door and scared the old woman half to death. The management had no idea she was even staying there. We ended up a room short and essentially shoved kids in together where we could fit them. The hotel still hasn't refunded any money for the paid for but unavailable room. I still want some restitution for this ridiculous situation. WC |
Wow... that's awful! You should've at least gotten the money for the extra room back.
|
you should get more money back... Like a free room or two for their mistake...
