Class of 2003 - Who is staying to mentor?

To all the Seniors out there:

Who is coming back next year to help their team? Who plans on starting a new team when they head off to college?

I hope to be able to help my team next year and want to see what everybody else plans on doing...

Jeff Waegelin 15-04-2003 21:32

Still undecided. I won't come back to help my team (it's too far away), but I haven't decided if I'll be involved in FIRST next year or not.

I think I am. The proffessor for my major was a engineering consultant for my team so I will proably be back to help out. I'm sad that this is my last year. I'm really amazed at what FIRST has done. It's a great program and I wish I has been able to join as a freshman. Sadly my team is only in it's second year.

I don't think I will be back to help my team for a couple of years.. due to a team being closer to college. I will be going to PSU W-B.. and plan on working with 222 if they will have me... and perhaps coming back to my team in the future. Deffinately will be involved in FIRST for many years to come.

meow?

I plan on joining up with team 250 near my college (RPI in Troy New York right outside Albany) might try to see if there are other high schools around there to try and start a team with. Also since the first 2 weeks of build season are part of winter break will help a team here on Long Island, or maybe will work with some friends and help create another team here! every high school should have one!!

The major thing I think College bound FIRSTers should do is to pester the college to give scholarships through FIRST. That is the ONE thing I definetly want to do through RPI.

Ill be back to help 151. i will only be 30-45 min away so it wont be too bad..

I won't be able to help the team on a regular basis, but I hope to go back and visit when I get a chance. If there's a FIRST team already established near the college, I'd love to go help out, but I think it's too big of a time commitment to start up a new team.

461 - Purdue

I'll be going to Purdue this fall, so if they let me be on the team I'll try. :D

Aaron Lussier 15-04-2003 22:22

On breaks I'll be helping 151, but while I'm at Wentworth I'll be walking down the street to help out with team 125 the Nutrons, out of northeastern University, plus theres more girls at Northeastern;)

Harrison 15-04-2003 22:30

I don't know exactly what I'll be doing, but I will be involved with FIRST in some way for sure.

How could I not be?

ngreen 15-04-2003 22:37

I want to help start a new team near my future college, Kansas State. But with only one year experience in FIRST I might settle with helping my current team as much as possible. It is only a 2 hour drive. Our teams driver/welder is going to K-State so he might be able to help me.

That's right, and I'm sure you know of one way you can. Ask Mark Breadner or someone else if you can volunteer at the Canadian Regional. You should also go back and mentor for Mobotics. Speaking of which, what's the deal with Mobotics... is it going to have a future, and is there anything we can do to help? I have heard things aren't, to put it bluntly, looking bright.

I'll probably head over to 461, if they want another animator.

I am talking to Mark about various things I can do for the Canadian Regional - thats mainly why I don't know exactly what I'll be doing at this point next year.

As for Mobotics, that really depends on Mr. Gerber. If he is willing to do it again next year (assuming he is still at Mowat), then there will be a team. I think the main thing for Mobotics is finding more students that are actually willing to put in the hours, as well as more teachers that are willing to actually help with supervision, etc.. Finding more financial support never hurts either.

Right now, all we can really do is make sure that Gerbs is back again next year - Cause Mobotics might not have a future without him.

I am going to be trying to start a team at the University of South Florida. Luckily my current team is only 45 minutes away so they will probably help mentor the new team.
