What's the best free portal software?
I think ChiefDelphi uses vPortals, but that costs money...
I know sigma squared uses phpNuke, but they said that's always crashing.... Are there any good web portals out there? |

I'm planning on redoing my team's site using Zope. It's free, open-source and really cool (Python based).
There is an open source portal for Zope called Plone (www.plone.org). It's definately worth a look. |
How would you like to write your own?
I have developed tutorials on how to create a portal based on the phpBB system. You can easily integrate the forums into your site, and then use a simple news codes and such to totally mod it out. Check out our site for an example: http://www.cogsquad.org/ .. and the tutorials located on my site: http://www.AJQuick.com/ |
InvisionBoard (www.invisionboard.com) can be modified in such a fashion.
www.4osx.com and http://www.ibplanet.com/ both use variations on this sort of modification. It's a simple PHP include script--one that I have no idea how to do ;). Anyway, if you do want to look for them, http://www.ibplanet.com/ will have it if ANYONE has it. --Petey |

ezPortal is what I am using on my loaclhost. I think the only limitation is that it's a phpBB hack.
You can find it at phpBBHacks. |
