Where do you build your bot?

I was wondering about all the teams, where do you build your robot?

ill start it off, we do all the work at our schools, we have full machine, auto, metal and wood shops at our schools.

We do our work at school too. Specifically, everything is built in the basement of the nuns' convent that is attatched to our school. We do our best with the space we have attempting to make it an actual work shop. I must say the nun's really dont appreciate our power tools, especially late at night when ship date is in 3 days.

well i dont know bout most teams but we do mast of the building of our bot w/ in the wood shop of our school and have very few things machined/made 4 us:]

We were very fortunate to partner up with a local tech center this year.. NMTCC (North Montco Techincal Career Center) has been amazing, from its mechanics to students to machine shop. And the best thing about this is, every single stinking part on the robot was built by students.

We use the Auto Shop at our school. We have a decent amount of machine shop equipment, so we can do almost everything on-site.

Marygrace 05-05-2003 22:39

We build our bots in the old Auto shop. They don't use it for that anymore. Because iot used to be an auto shop it is huge! Almost every year we build a full out field. N-e way, yeah, we build at our school.

We build our bot at CinergyPSI...our local electric company. They provide a fairly large space, about 1/3-1/2 of their warehouse (not sure sq.ft.) for us to use, they are very very gracious.

Clanat 06-05-2003 01:06

We do about half and half building at the machine shop and building at the school. Anything that requires machining must be done there, since all we have at school are cordless drills.

In a cafeteria, baby! No metal, auto, or wood shop!

jmort03 06-05-2003 09:32

HAhaha...we build at a lot of different places....The computer lab at school, or the library, (we cant go to the old wood shop because its the wrestling room/set shop for theater.) Most of the time we work out of Columbus States machine shop, and on Saturdays we worked at Southeast Career Center with 3 other teams... We lost soo much stuff throughout the season...We were in soo many different lab rooms at school and columbus state. It was madness...my little geo got a workout thought because i was the only one on the team that could drive so i had the robot alot in my car......(so glade we went with a compact design!!!) all in all....there were 6 someodd different places we built at.

Brant Bowen 06-05-2003 16:09

We have been different places in our school, but since i've been on the team we've been in the shop room. It's pretty nice, we have to work out of a closet though, that's not always the funnest thing. We do almost all of our own machining, but send a few items to local machine shops.

WE build at are sponsors shop, Apex machine companey. They build machines so like they have everyting we ever need. We dont have to leave there.
We build were they build there machines so we have unlimited tools we can use and everything

We have done nearly all of our work in the very small teachers lounge of our school. This was very inconvienent because they locked the doors at 9 p.m. so we had to out of there by then every night. (except weekends, when they were not unlocked at all)

nerdcool64 06-05-2003 22:23

We built at GM's Desert Proving Grounds, our sponser, for our first few years. Then for the past two years we moved it to our schools autoshop for a reason that is beyond me. But next year we are moving back into GM! Gilaville-3!

Tim_Wochomurka 07-05-2003 12:09

We have a space...

narenr 08-05-2003 22:31

We build in the hallway right outside one of our teachers' classrooms. The night janitors hate us because we ruin ther schedules during our late meetings during the build season. We do clean up as best we can, though  . We have a small storage room where we throw our tools, etc in. Its a humble workspace, but we get the job done.

Lisa Rodriguez 12-05-2003 15:07

we build ours in our not-yet-open-to-the-public machine shop
it was a machine shop some years ago [before i got to HS] and then it had to be closed to remone asbesto, then they never re-opened it, the janitors like to use it as a storage room, but we take it over during the build season, although our parts are milled at one of our volenteer's home machine shop [I WANT ONE OF THOSE!!]
we just de-burr and put together at the school, but we have a lathe and some other stuff in the machine shop...although we can't build during school, cuz there would be no adult in the room [a rule at our school] expect this one time, i went to the bathroom, and on my way back, one of our engineers walked in the door, and i just went with him to the shop.....oops, 30 min trip to the bathroom, good thing i have a REALLY cool photo teacher
and the janitors walk into the room, saying "It's 1 am, i'm setting the alarm in 5 minutes, GET OUT" but in a nice polite way.......:D
