Do the bins fit under the bar?

Woody or Dave said no at the kickoff. After several events watching the Evil Machine at play I say they were wrong.

Bins do fit under the bar- they just need a little help.

What do you think?

wasn';t it dave who said at kickoff that they don;t fit under the bar? either way teams have proven that they do though

The containers do not fit under the bar.

The robots can damage them so they can fit under the bar, but that's a violation of one of the rules.

Deliberately damaging the playing field, controls or containers is strictly illegal and will result in disqualification of your alliance.
That's one thing I noticed this year. The rules were violated a lot more than last year. I hope they will be more accurately enforced at IRI. One container is a coincidence, but two is deliberate.

who says they do it deleberatly ;)

I know for a fact they do fit under the bar and any one at Lone Star can vouch for that, my teams driver could not see the bin in the alley (actually thought it was another robot) and ended up forcing it under the another said "at kick off they told us they don't fit but apparently they do know."

Daniel Brim 12-05-2003 19:10

They will fit. They will break but they will fit. If a limbo bot is stuck in the alley and/or can't see their robot, they might have to shatter the bin.

That is EXACTLY what our team did during one of the Archimedes Quarter-final matches. I couldn't see what was going on, so I just assumed a bot was preventing me from going under the bar. All of a sudden I saw blue shards shooting out from the side of the ramp...MY BAD! :ahh:

AJ Quick 12-05-2003 19:45

The bins are like Jello. No matter how hard are you force it, it will always spring back... unless it shatters first.

We have unknowingly, and unintensionally made several boxes go under the bar. But we also forced our 2 foot tall robot go under the bar.. something we never intended... it just tore everything off the top of our bot.

There are some teams, however, that really.. just completely destroyed the bins.. intentionally even. One of the teams I saw even won at a regional, and were applauded by the announcer when they did it. Even though it was the best robot there, it shouldn't have been allowed to dominate in such a way.

an example for ya, at PARC, a team in the finals decided to block our autonomus mode by placing bins agains the ramo, as we went we hit those bins, 2 of the 4 broke, so by you saying that 2 in around is dieliberate, you are saying that we are DQed for this.. no i dont think so, also randomly clearing the opponets scoringzone of bins, we hit a bunch of bins and plow them agianst the wall.,the bin at the end breaks, are we at fault for that? no, we do it twice, that makes it our fault ? no so i think that juding a deliberate damage is just a little tougher than saying someone doing it twice is deliberatly doing it, its hard to see over that ramp ya know

The bins cannot in any normal orientation go under the bar. The bar is simply too low to without breaking or bending get the bins underneath.

As far as the rule, it seems rather plain to me: the rule states that you can't intentionally damage the bins. Plain and simple, in most cases, if you're trying to force a bin through its pretty damned obvious you're intentionally trying to damage the bins because of the first point there: the bins CANNOT without withstanding damage go under the bar. You can debate whether it's intentional damage or not, but probably 75% of the time (those times when you can see what's happening over there, the actual percentage is probably off, it's just a guess) are intentional.

Just my 2 cents....

Yeah they do fit under the bar.....I had to pry enough of them out from under the bar and pick up enough shattered bins as a ref at the PARC........Hey 25 I think you put us way far in debt ;)

I've seen a couple go under.

If you hit them hard/fast enough, while they are in the right orrientation, they kinda squirt under. There appears to be negligable bin damage after such a "squirt".

I've also seen a few go under the more direct, and damaging way... ouch.

BTW guys- this thread was posted as a JOKE.

lighten up already. The season is over.

If the Evil Machine does not stop its destructive ways, u may need to start bringing bins to off-season competitions as a good will gesture or teams may not let u in the door. But seriously, lighten up everyone about the legality of destroying bins. It is entertainng to see bins get smashed and off-season comps are all about having fun.

I liked seeing all the mangled bins at PARC (unless we were trying to stack them:yikes: ). Maybe at the Duel on the Delaware (or Brunswick Eruption if team 25 would like to put their own bins where their mouth is;) ), we should have a bin smashing special round (at the end of course:D). We would have to limit the number of entries based on number of bins available. This will take a lot of convincing of team leaders to make this a round. But hey what are we going to do with the bins anyway. :]

Mike Schroeder 12-05-2003 23:50

Lucas: if you get a BIg Mike and partner vs 222 and partner college driver match, at DoD, then i will work on getting the bin smashing mini for the NJ Offseason where ever it may be :)
