Also, remember to make plenty of racecar noises while you drive!

It's still a good way to figure it out even if it does wear on the clutch...this is why I always suggest to learn with the luxury of a hand me down car or...someone else's. I've said too much...

ohh, the good ol days of learning to drive a stick.. it wasn't too bad because I drove a tractor prior.. but interesting.... I remember last summer taking a crack at a friends car to see how hard it was.... well, when I got my first standard truck shortly after that.. ick... it had a big stick, and a different shifting pattern.... NEVER look at the stick to figure out what gear you're in...

to get them feeling better.. keep saying.. as soon as you learn how to go from stop to first gear... the lessons are all over. Once you have that down.. there is nothing to a standard.

*Ohh... a girl and her stick pick-up truck... nothing more redneck than that!!* :p

Hehe. Not many people learned standard on tractors? I first drove standard on a Farmall hydrostatic. Wheelies are fun in tractors :) Now I drive a standard Ford Contour. When I started in the car, the hardest part I thought was reversing. To teach someone to drive standard, I'd start out in an empty parking lot and just do lots of stop-and-start circles. Then I'd find an empty up-hill street and do more stop-starts. It's kinda hard, but it'll help.
