Re: Fantasy Football!

Well I don't know about my team being unstoppable...I've had a few scares in the past few weeks. I guess I've been very fortunate though and being seeded #1 going into the playoffs has far exceeded my expectations. Actually, if you go back to the beginning of this thread, I joined because I was bored and the only thing I really wanted was not to end up in last place.

Good luck to everyone in the playoffs and may I be matched up against the best team in the championship game :)

Week XIV Results

Coco's Monkeys (5-8) d. R.I. Electrons (6-7)
121-85
The Electrons needed a win and a little help to make the playoffs. And unfortunately, that help didn’t come from his players. Yes, there was the godly Priest Holmes’s 20 and a 10 from Rodney Harrison, but two zeros on offense followed by the Monkeys shooting Trent Green’s 53 and a LaDainian Tomlinson 27 was enough to send the Electrons back to Newport for the postseason.

-To Be Determined-(7-6) d. Snowballs (3-10)
111-87
A win would guarantee TBD a spot in the playoffs. And if you’re reading this, you’ve probably already noticed that TBD won, and in a nice fashion to boot. A 32 from Brad Johnson was able to hold them over until Mason Derrick, Atlanta, and Michael Strahan came by with their double digits. Chad Pennington became useless in Buffalo for the Snowballs, and their only shred of hope came with Clinton Portis’s 39. But with three defenders not playing, TBD was quickly inducted into the playoffs.

Chesapeake Cruisers(7-6) d.Dunedain(8-2-3)
127-107
You’d figure Tom Brady would have better luck in Miami at home in the snow. But with no offensive touchdowns, Brady only took 19. Tarrell Owens looked to rescue the underrated Dunedain with 21. But nothing else was too spectacular on that side save their conglomeration. Now, the Baltimoreized Cruisers on the other hand had a few, um, bigger scores to back up their (Baltimoreized) conglomerate. Jake Plummer (not from Baltimore, mind you) contributed 30, and (the Baltimoreized) Jamal Lewis picked up 20. A 14 from a (non-Baltimorized) kicker, (the Baltimorized) Ray Lewis picking up 10, and Baltimore (obviously Baltimoreized) scoring 21 capped off an impressive win for (the Baltimoreized) Chesapeake. Now Baltimore, er, Chesapeake is in the playoffs.

Cooney Quest (8-4-1) d. Your Team Name (6-6-1)
148-102
YTN was in the same spot as the Electrons. They needed a win, and knowing that both TBD and the Ravens- ack!, I mean the Cruisers had both won, they needed an X-Cat loss. Neither of these happened. YTN had a crushing defense worth 64, and an utter crash everywhere else. Cooney pulled off its high scoring win with a Bret Favre 30, more than half the offense in double digits, and an equally as crushing defense scoring 69.

29 Patriots(4-9) d. Hurricanes (4-9)
104-98
I could feasibly dub this the Battle of the Basement. And it wasn’t all that bad either. But it wouldn’t have been very close had Jeff Garcia not yanked in 61 for the Hurricanes. Quite obviously, that was all for them, with the rest of the offense scoring only 18. But the Patriots still had work to do. They started with Donovan McNabb’s 40, and then proceeded to go to school on the Hurricane’s offense, coming to within 12 (despite a -3 from a RB). They caught up on defensive teams, winning 18-14, and the Hurricanes had nothing else coming from defense. The Pats won that category 19-5, just being able to end their season with a win.

Koko's X-Cats (7-6) d. Bane (4-8-1)
126-83
Now knowing that Rhode Island and YTN were both out, the X-Cats could breathe a sigh of relief, now not needing that win to make the playoffs. They did win, making my previous statement moot. A decent offensive coalition really was just padding for that monstrous 66 on defense. Yeah, Bane could finally use Michael Vick, and he opened up with a 25. But with really nothing else, Bane just silently faded into obscurity.

ValleyGirls (11-2) d. Scrawny White Guys (2-11)
87-74
Guys vs. girls… I’ve been waiting for this one all season. Doug Flutie kept this close for the Guys, and Daunte Culpepper put it over for the Girls. Even everywhere else (and not in the most impressive ways either), those two made the difference in this otherwise dull game. At least it makes the CB vs. Philly game more interesting, with the Girls able to bid for first, and guaranteed second.

Pinman(5-8)d. Nor Cal Crushers (4-8-1)
107-78
Pinman has all of a sudden become formidable, albeit too late to become a playoff contender. The Crushers had a 27 from the QB position, and an 11 from the defense slot. But with everyone else in low single digits, Nor Cal became the fifth straight casualty on Pinman’s run. While their QB only scored 13, Kevin Barlow had 10, Randy Moss had 23, and New England had 32. That equals the Crushers with just four players. It’s another one of those “do the math” situations.

CB234(11-2) d. Philly Cheesesteaks (11-1-1)
144-120
And I believe I can call this the classic Monday nighter. A Cheesesteak loss would put them all the way back in third, and out of first for the first time since week three when the X-Cats took over for the Electrons who held it the first two weeks. Oh, what a game it was. Quite possibly the game of the year started with Philly’s boy Manning actually scoring less than 30. A quick rundown reveals that the usually powerhouse Cheesteak offense wasn’t all that, well, powerhousey (another in the long list of Eddieisms). The defense, on the other hand combined for 62, over half their score. Of course, CB’s offense became the powerhouse this week, led by Steve McNair’s 46. Running tallied 25, receiving put up 23, and even Mike Vanderjagt contributed 17. Defense for CB at this point was a moot point, only needing 9 to win. They got it, inciting a shakeup in the top three we haven’t seen since week four.

Playoffs: Round I

This is how the playoffs looked at the start of the week.

ValleyGirls (12-2)
vs.
Koko's X-Cats (8-6)

Dunedain(8-3-3)
vs.
Cooney Quest (9-4-1)

Chesapeake Cruisers(8-6)
vs.
Philly Cheesesteaks (11-2-1)

CB234(12-2)
vs.
-To Be Determined-(8-6)

Kamen Bowl Quarterfinals
Koko's X-Cats (#8) d. ValleyGirls (#1)
119-108
The bigger they are, the harder they fall. So was the case with the ValleyGirls. It was a very hard loss, with all members performing up to that (in)famous ValleyGirl standard. Culpepper led the charge with 30, and the receivers combined for 24. Plus, there’s that particularly nast defensinve coalition I’ve been yammering on about since week one. The X-Cats kept pretty close, although lagging slightly behind on all but one stat: the quarterback. Aaron Brooks tore apart the Giants on the Sunday night game to rally 57 points in Koko’s name. The mighty Yokozuna has fallen, and seating pads are flying.

Kamen Bowl Quarterfinals
-To Be Determined- (#7) d. CB234 (#2)
81-53
The bigger they are, the harder they fall. So was the case with CB. It was a very hard loss, with all members performing up to that (in)famous CB standard. Wait a sec, I must be covering the ValleyGirl loss again… no, wait, I’m actually covering a CB loss. Alright, I’ll admit, both teams probably could’ve done better this week. But CB felt just the same thing the ValleyGirls did. No, not an opposing powerhouse QB (Brad Johnson only gave TBD 21 points), but lack of a quarterback. CB took a risk putting Steve McNair in at QB, and he payed. Injury kept him out of the game, and put CB out of a title run. The mighty Yokozuna has… oh, nevermind.

Kamen Bowl Quarterfinals
Philly Cheesesteaks (#3) d. Chesapeake Cruisers(#6)
117-94
The bigger they are, the harder they fall. So was the case with… oh, whew. I don’t have to do that one again. But still, it seems like all the top seeds are having sub-par games. The only thing that saved Philly was Peyton Manning’s 60. Yes, I said 60. The mighty Cruisers (by which I mean the Ravens) put up an impressive fight in the process, but as long as Manning keeps throwing, the Cheesesteaks are almost unbeatable. Not much else to brag about on his side, I’ll just say that I’m glad I don’t have to use the word Yokozuna for the third time this post-game analysis. Oh great…

Kamen Bowl Quarterfinals
Dunedain (#4) d. Cooney Quest (#5)
169-123
Uh, can you say “brick wall”? Losing against a record score in the first round is a tough way to go out. Oh well, at least this was a very exciting game (not like those earlier bores :p). I’ll start by saying that the high score actually rested with Cooney, what with Brett Favre’s 48 and all. A nice defensive showing also saw Tampa Bay, Darren Sharper, and Jerry Azumah pulling double digit efforts. Combined with Marshall Faulk’s 12, it’d be putting away anyone else playing this week. But no, the Quest had to draw Dunedain. I’ll just say these people quickly in one breath: Tom Brady netting 38, Anthony Thomas with 10, Brian Westbrook’s 19, Tarrell owens catching a 17, Carolina holding a 17, Jamie Sharper picking a 12, and Jeremiah Trotter pulling in 13. ::catches breath:: Considering their lowest score by anyone was a 6, it’s no wonder this Yokozuna took the week. Yeah, I just had to say Yokozuna once more. :)

Playoffs: Round 2

Winner’s brackets and consolation brackets:

Koko's X-Cats (8-6)
vs.
Dunedain(8-3-3)

Philly Cheesesteaks (11-2-1)
vs.
-To Be Determined-(8-6)

ValleyGirls (12-2)
vs.
Cooney Quest (9-4-1)

Chesapeake Cruisers(8-6)
vs.
CB234(12-2)

Lavery Bowl Qualification
Cooney Quest (#5) d. ValleyGirls (#1)
122-101
The bigger they are, the harder they fall. So was the case with the ValleyGirls. It was a very hard loss, with all members performing up to that (in)famous ValleyGirl standard. Gee, this sounds oddly familiar… Anyhow, Culpepper once again lead the Girls’ charge with 39. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the offensive support this time around, scoring 18 the rest of the way. But there was that nasty defense mightily picking up the slack with Philladelphia contributing 12 and James Farrior with 11. Let me say here that Cooney’s defense was el crapo with its 13. It picked up on offense though with a Ryan Longwell 11, a Javon Walker 19, Marshall Faulk’s 21, and Brett Favre’s, well Brett Favre. Need I say more (cough53cough)? Monday night was enough to push Cooney to the Lavery Bowl.

Lavery Bowl Qualification
Chesapeake Cruisers (#6) d. CB234(#2)
136-105
The bigger they are, the harder they fall. So was the case with CB. It was a very hard loss, with all members performing up to that (in)famous CB standard. Oh no, not again… With a total receiving score of 36 and a Steve McNair 30, it would seem over for the Cruisers. Of course, an abrupt halt everywhere else didn’t help, but still, Chesapeake had some work to do to catch up. And Baltimore did all of the work for them. Jamal Lewis (from Baltimore) had 21, Baltimore themselves had 30, and Denver’s Jake Plummer added 32. With the rest of the defensive players contributing about equally (including a Brian Russell 12), the Cruisers move on, while CB plays the ValleyGirls in the Hammond Bowl.

Kamen Bowl Semifinals
Koko's X-Cats (#8) d. Dunedain (#4)
121-114
Continuing the trait of close games, the X-Cats looked for their second straight upset. And this one came down the sheer willingness to win. Extremely tight in the offense (Cats were led Aaron Brooks’s 39, with an 11 and 13 caming from a RB and WR respectively. Dunedain had a 24 running, Hines Ward with 15, and Tom Brady leading with 29), the game came down to a Monday night 18 from Green Bay in the defensive department. Another Monday night comeback sends the X-Cats to the Kamen Bowl Championship.

Kamen Bowl Semifinals
-To Be Determined- (# 7) d. Philly Cheesesteaks (#3)
142-100
Remember when I said last week that as long as Manning keeps throwing, the Cheesesteaks are almost unbeatable? Guess what didn’t happen. A 14 in the QB slot really hurt the impressive numbers put up the rest of the way. This includes a Jerome Bettis 10, Laveranues Coles’s 21, Minnesota’s 12, and that nasty conglomerate Philly tends to put up every week. Then, there’s TBD’s quarterback with a 50. I could stop there, but why leave out Ontario Smith’s 26, an Atlanta 12, and a coalition that actually out-conglomerated the conglomeration king? Completing the cycle of all scores clearing the century mark and all lower seeds winning, TBD gets a shot at the championship, while Philly meets Dunedain in the Flowers Bowl.

Congrats Ed! I'm glad that if I had to be knocked out of the playoffs, it was done by the League Champion.

Do I get some kind of consolation prize for being the #1 seed...you know, like they do for the teams at regionals? Just a thought :)

Yeah, I'll be converting FIRST awards to our football needs in the next few days, along with the postgames on round three.

Congrats to Koko Ed. This is a far, far better result than last year's football league.

But now to the important question-as a finalist, do I get a big, gaudy, diamond-encrusted ring?
