Monitor Trouble....Help!

I was online earlier and my Motorolla Cable Modem decided to wig out on me (in other words, it started turning itslef off and on randomly). I rebooted, thinking maybe my computer just needed a rest. When my system was ready to roll again, the screen resolution was down to 640X480 and the colors were set to 16. I went into the setting and it wouldn't let me change back to 1164X864 and 16 bit High Color. If I made the color 256 colors, it wouldn't let the screen be any larger than 640X480, and if I made the screen any bigger than that, it wouldn't let me get better that 32 colors. What is goin on here? (I tried reintalling the driver for the monitor via the recovery disk...no help there.)

Sounds like a video card driver issue, and not a monitor issue, so here's what you want to try:

1. Reinstall the video driver & Reboot
2. If it doesn't correct itself, adjust it to the highest resolution it will let you pick, then reboot again.
3. After the second reboot, it should give you all your options back. In some cases, I've seen a need with some video drivers to need to get out of the default 640x480x16c mode before they will let you get any fancier than that. An easy way to tell(in most cases) if you have one of these drivers is if after getting out of 640x480x16c, it asks you to reboot for the changes to take effect...

Nate's way will problubly work, but my friend was having resolution issues before, and it ended up being a virus that created a mock monitor's file, so when he tried to change the resolution it was in a fake program.

He did a virus scan and nuked it.

Thats what he told ME anyway.

My computer is refusing to cooperate. I did a virus scan, tat found nothing. Might there be something hidden? Also, when I try to change any of the settings, and I click apply, they flick back to minimum resolution and colors, just before the window dissapears. Why is it doing this?
