Purdue W. Lafayette (sorry, I'm from Hammond, where you say Purdue and they think Purdue Calumet, so I have to specify) starts August 25th, and I'm headed down on the 22nd. Hammond kids start school on the 26th, but we've been meeting all summer, so it doesn't really make a difference except then everyone has even less time.

Meetings

Team 47 meets Tuesdays and Thursdays the entire First semester plus additional time as needed.

Team members participate in a robotics competition called OCCRA (Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association) in the fall. This is where the robots are 100% student built.

In addition Fund-raising, learning to do video, photo and most of all learning to run the machines to build the robot starting in Jan.

Of course students are driving as much as possible to be selected as drivers.

Add to this the Chief Delphi Invitational and our students find out quickly what it means to be busy.

I start back for first day of classes at PSU on Sept. 2nd.

My high school starts around the 20th of August... however, the team pulls froma LARGE area, with schools not starting back till the second week of Sept. or later, due to various reasons. Usually, an intro meeting will be held in October, and then a team building session will be held in November. A fundraiser or two, and another meeting at kick-off... then the season begins.

Keene High School starts school August 27. We usually meet every other Tuesday during the school year. This year will be different as we are hosting our first invitational (Fall Fury) October 11 so we will be meeting more than that. We have been busy meeting over the summer planning and fundraising.

North Brunswick Township High School goes back September 3rd, if memory serves. We start meeting every Wednesday, with special meetings whenever we see fit. Beggining early this year will be particularly important because we are training new drivers and have a variety of big events coming up for the team. It is not uncommon for us to meet more than once a week during the offseason, and more than 3 times a week during build season, and I feel this helps everyone to be prepared and informed all the time.

Appleton North, East and West go back to school September 4th.

The team usually starts meeting within the first two or three weeks of school so we can start our fundraising, plan for the city's Octoberfest and get some rookies involved. The time before the build is also used to hone veterans skills (in machining, programming, electrical work, etc.) and to give rookies some hands-on training in those areas.

Meetign when school starts gives last year's rookies a chance to jump into the veteran role and start being leaders early on in the season. Meeting earlier in the year also shows current rookies that FIRST is not just about building robots - there's a lot of work that goes into making a team!

My school start August 27th or 28th.......our team tends to meet one every two weeks in the offseason, but i think that is about to change after the restructuring of our team!

School starts back August 7th...

After I find us a faculty sponcer we will prolly meet afterschool every other week. But we also will have weekly Sunday afternoon meetings at our shops in Todd's Garage. Its the sunday meetings that help us for build season b/c we can prototype and build team unity and actually learn the machines.

School

Ponca City High School starts back on September 2nd. It doesnt really put us behind any because we have team a meeting every other week. Pluse we work on our drivetrain once a week. We also get to know the machines, and build our team trust during that time . Also Our team does a lot of fundraising during the summer so by the time build season arives we dont have any major problems concerning team members.

All of Fulton County starts up on August 11, I believe (which includes Milton High -1127 and Roswell High - 832). We've been having meetings every once in a while this summer to get this spring's lump of metal into working condition and we'll probably start weekly meetings the first week of school. We also have it worked out where the executive branch of our team gets out of a different class once each week to meet and discuss logistics. If we get lucky again, myself and a few other team members will have a slack class at the same time so we can skip it and have daily meetings that don't cut down on sleeping-time (I <3 our school Admins).

are you in high school or in university/college because i am not sure, but i think that that makes a difference as to when school starts as well.
Actually location counts too. Notice as you start going more and more south you start seeing school starts earlier and earlier and ends sooner than in the north. Basically they don't want to broil the kids in the heat.:)

We go back August 23rd here in Bridgewater... We start up our new FIRST year in middle of September... The two biggest advantages of doing this is we learn more, and we raise more money because we have more time for fundraising...

Jeff Waegelin 05-08-2003 11:17

University of Michigan starts classes September 2nd. My old high school, Rochester High School, starts August 26th.

Cory 05-08-2003 11:51
